    Richardsons

Don't you think that if they had intended to charge for mooring they would not have included "free" in the application in the first place? Personally, I welcome the ambition shown in the planning submissions for Acle Bridge and Stalham. In difficult times, Richardsons are looking to make the most from their assets. Boats, land, locations and I am sure, their people as well......good luck to them! Cheesey69 started a thread last year, exploring the difference between charter and hire for boats on the Broads. I concluded (rightly or wrongly) that there wasn't much difference except the price! As has been mentioned, there is a large area in the Stalham marina proposals, designated to charter Time will tell but I don't expect to see a huge reduction in the Richardsons fleet. I am sure they will turn round some of the older fleet but will continue to buy or build more of the top end (charter?) boats. And, speaking of ambition, let's not forget Clive Richadson's proposals for Horning Pleasurecraft, coupled with his growing of his excellent hire fleet through building and buying. It is good to see confidence in the future, I hope that the new year, as it unfolds, brings a bit more confidence for all of us, goodness knows we need some!
  2. Enjoy a fabulous, peaceful new years eve.....great that you are on the mend.....and on your lovely boat! Keep warm and safe.

    Richardsons

Having hired from Horizon at Acle bridge I would love to see the basin busy and loved again! Good luck to Richardsons.
  4. Glad you are feeling a bit brighter Kate......but there is only one cure.....you need a bacon sarnie!...(plenty of butter on the bread).......you're welcome.
  5. The forecast for your week is looking pretty decent (at the moment), so hopefully the river levels will continue to fall and you will have a lovely relaxing, moor wherever you choose week. The water levels at the marina should be better too. I look forward to reading about your week......sounds like an excellent way to start 2024!
  6. The top accessory, in what was the first of my now nine Volvos.......(a fabulous 240 GL estate).....was an orange plastic potty. Kept behind the front passenger seat, perfect for the children on a long drive......
  7. There were no reliable witnesses ......... and you can't prove anything.....
  8. I couldn't agree more!.....lovely boats, we hired most of the Horizon 35's from Acle Bridge over the years, really well set out and spacious, my kids loved them......yours looks great (as orange as it is) Kate!
  9. I am so sorry Troyboy to hear about your health issue at home, it must have been a difficult decision for you to have to take to sell your boat share. I hope that you will be able to get back on the Broads soon...
  10. If you are looking to hiring 4 weeks each year, have you considered syndicate ownership? I can highly recommend it and Helen mentioned that a share is available on Moonlight Shadow .....other syndicates are also available.
  11. We have mobiles on EE and O2, I will report back on how well (or not) the new mast is performing when we get to the boat at the end of the month.......unless someone beats me to it......
  12. We have moored at Sutton 3 times this year and will be going again at the end of the month when we are back on the Broads. Sutton on the green is one of our favourites. Marge is spot on, no problem whatsoever for us. Go and have a look for yourself Lawrence. Ok the leccy might be off but don't let that put you off going if you want to.
  13. Wow!......that is looking fabulous!.....I wonder how much a week's hire will cost?
  14. Fabulous, CC.........simply fabulous!
  15. We have a 500 watt 'Grandma Shark' oil filled radiator. Nice and quiet, enough heat for one cabin while on low. Was £35 from the rainforest.
  16. How terribly sad, rest in peace uncle Mike.
  17. I too have some doubts........but if I don't participate I can't complain about the outcome can I? So I shall. Thank you Kate and Mark for bringing it to the forum.

    Boat Search

Norfolk Boat Sales have one of Barnes' merrymores for sale, pretty sure it is a Pearl 38.
  19. I think that is how Attenborough started...........
  20. I saw it on Look East, very sad to see.
  21. I think our Chairman has this about right.
  22. Dopey bucket......norfolk Marine should have been Ludham marine......
  23. Not in Brundall but three operators I have hired from; Norfolk Marine, based at Womack Water, Caribou in 1981. Hearts cruisers based at Thorpe, I can't remember the boat name but may have been Queen of Hearts in 2001 or 2002.....A fabulously elegant old cruiser with a folding wheelhouse. The wonderful Horizon craft at Acle bridge. We hired many of their bath tubs from 2000 until it closed 7 or 8 years ago.
  24. Brundall1037 is spot on. Syndicate ownership is far more cost effective than hiring as far as yearly running costs go. 5 weeks on the broads on Blue Mist each year for roughly the same as one weeks peak hire. There is the initial investment to consider as well of course, but if and when I come to sell my share, I will get most if not all of it back. True that any problems are the responsibility of the syndicate, but that's part of ownership of anything, and the monthly payments will cover the annual fixed costs, and leave enough to cover improvements and the odd unexpected repair.
