  1. Yep - Ferry have over 40 boats so its not unusual to see quite a few in the yard as changeovers these days are staggered all through the week. Been down this week a couple of times and the tides are currently very high - a lot a fresh water coming downstream I expect and with a NW wind forecast I am expecting a few flood warnings this weekend. However a week is a long time in Broadland tides. Ferry were busy servicing and getting their pump ready!!!!!!
  2. Come across on an inflatable - we won't tell!!
  3. I think pontoons perhaps sticking out at that point may be a bit much - perhaps an extra 20' into the river including the boat? It will be the sheer cost of providing and maintaining the mooring until 2085 that is the issue as Ex Pilot suggests - for how many boats? 3/4???
  4. Griff - security issues I would suggest without a doubt! How do yo guard over 400 miles of track?? Not possible I would hazard a guess. I was surprised to see the train mentioned anyway - didn't see any official mention of it other than in your (? ) earlier post. With the greatest of respect to you being a Northerner who feels affronted, there are plenty of other places and people missing out - how about everyone in the west of the country?
  5. Certainly used the gun carriage at Winstons - I stood on Ludgate Hill. After the service taken to Waterloo by the MV Havengore. Lasting memory is the noise made by the steel studs in their boots as they came up the hill - only sound to be heard.
  6. Sell it to the Americans? Must be able to find an old double decker bus to stick on top??
  7. I see Hampshire Flag Company do a 6 yard one- that would be a talking point!!!!
  8. Yes I can agree with the human waste issue becoming a real issue - not wishing to discuss it at length but its hardly surprising given the number of day boats, canoeists, and paddle boarders. I suppose too they are raising the bank a further 6/8 inches in both areas but its those b****y signs that get up my nose!!!
  9. Sad to see, but courtesy, I suspect, of one of our benevolent (!) landowners we seem to have lost two more of our wild moorings. On the big bends opposite Horning Hall and under the trees they are closing those two pleasant moorings and the dreaded signs "PRIVATE" have appeared. It is just possible that they are raising the bank as they have put "scaffold" boards in and dredged the river and put the soil behind, thereby raising the bank as I suspect it overtops there on the highest tides and floods into the marshes which they cut regularly. But you can almost guarantee those boards will stay - sadly! I have to say that I am not certain of the ownership but I think I can make a damn good guess!!!
  10. Checked mine today on a 35' boat - 36" x 18". Seems about right! Always flown it and always will until I give up - always take it in when not on board and at dusk. By all means tell me its not big enough and I am doing it all wrong but it is probably 40 years old if its a day and still going!!!! Been out at sea, gone foreign and now ending its days doing not a lot in my home county - bit like me, generally in retirement and a bit dirty and showing signs of age!!
  11. Hmmm - the three biggest landowners around here are not quite so benevolent!!! They operate on the principle thats whats theirs is theirs and even if you think you have any rights, the most important thing is the large sign you see everywhere spelling out in no uncertain terms "PRIVATE" !!!! Walkers are definitely widely discouraged , certainly not a "walkers are welcome " area around the Broads. Don't get me wrong there are lots of footpaths around, but farming is big business and restoring, renewing and cutting and clearing, is not really No 1 on the Agenda. Or thats how I see it....!!!
  12. Thinking about it realistically, does any one really believe you could cast over a flying drone? They would have to be flying very very low - must have been well attracted to get such close ups of whatever bits were on view! I suspect the best you could achieve that unlikely scenario was if, the drone was on the ground!! Sounds a bit like other fishermen's tales!!!
  13. To be quite honest, I would rather these people stay in business, rather than worrying too much whether they give discounts to Forum Members!!!! Its their continued good service that counts most, not whether they give a bob or two off!!!!
  14. Now - I have a sailing dinghy in my front garden available for the right price.....!!!!
  15. Nothing new then there but it will be very expensive to build on that site and the BA will insist on a yard ( of sorts!!! ) remaining! To be honest although they continue to asset strip, my guess is that they would have to move it on at some stage as i guess it would take a huge amount of deep piling to build brick houses - each one having to have a raft. Not sure the market is there for such expensive homes on that site yet- its hardly an outstandingly attractive area!
  16. Best sailing on the south side, but all the hire yards (5) are on the north!!! Numbers limited but seem to have stabilised at around current levels.
  17. Trees were not encouraged by the wherrymen, as it intervened with the motive power!! I have also seen a photograph standing by Horning Church looking towards GY with not a tree in sight!
  18. Andrew - same applies! Drop the mudweight, don't panic, and wait! They won't be the first, nor the last, and as no life was endangered, send them the bill!!!
  19. But they weren't in any danger? Mud weight down and wait?
  20. Even hardened, cynical, old gits like me, shed a little tear at that news! What bloke never had a little crush on her???
  21. Best thing about asking such a question as this on a Forum is you get answers between the Falgate and the Norfolk Mead!!!! One thing you should note between these is the size of the bill at the Norfolk Mead marginally outstripping the former!!
  22. Just normal for Wroxham over the summer school holidays I am afraid! Been like that for as long as I can remember - best thing to do is just stay away from it!!!!!
  23. So - will the fishermen be able to distinguish him from an otter and if not, will they now launch into a long tirades about otters and how they should be controlled as they impact the fishing. Interesting though as on "the other side" there have been some very positive news about the current fishing, despite otter lookalikes!!!!!
