  1. I am the same with any holidays be they on the Broads or elsewhere. We all tend to get excited prior to going away, planning the event, when boating checking out the boat kit (this expands every year) packing the clothes (left to Tan) my job it to get it all in the car. If on the Broads checking the tides to see if a passage through Yarmouth is on the cards or not. No chance this time (early July) because we are training for two days with new owners. Regards Alan
  2. A good feature on EDP24 regarding ringing the four chicks at Norwich Cathedral, includes some pictures and video footage. http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/environment/watch_going_up_norwich_cathedral_spire_to_meet_the_peregrines_1_4537526 Regards Alan
  3. We have been updating the webcams on the forum and have stripped out a number of the Norfolk Live webcams that are no longer listed on their website, the Oulton Broad link has been left in place, hopefully Norfolk Live will sort it out or maybe The Wherry Hotel will look for a new provider, it would be a sad event if this webcam was lost. You may have seen that we have listed alternative links to the following webcams in the last few weeks, Barnes Brinkcraft website, Cromer and Bressingham. Current links to our webcams:- http://thenorfolkbroads.net/forum/forum/124-webcams/ Regards Alan
  4. Hi Bob. I am sure you are covered with the waiver (maybe Clive can advise us). I know I had to check with our insurance that we were covered by Bridge Damage on our policy, it would seem that not all insurances policies do not cover this risk, it is deemed to be the responsibility of the skipper that they should check for safe passage. Personally I think that is a fair comment from the insurance companies. I have seen a few boat roofs damaged at Wroxham whilst sitting outside of the Hotel, and stupid practices of trying to save tackle on the boats roof, better to loose the fishing tackle rather than having a serious accident. Sadly people have been crushed going through that bridge. Regards Alan
  5. I am so sorry to hear of your sad news Eric, our thoughts are with you at this time.
  6. Sunrise from Richardson's was stuck under Wroxham Bridge this afternoon, No details known. Regards Alan
  7. Please see the following report from the EDP regarding the the Peregrines took on a Red Kite last week and 4 buzzards this week to protect their chicks. http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/environment/protective_peregrine_falcon_parents_chase_away_buzzards_at_norwich_cathedral_1_4535270 Regards Alan
  8. Hi Bob, The short staithe at the side of of the Hotel Wroxham does not belong to the hotel. Since the development of the area and access from the road as opposed to the previous main access from the side of the hotel this mooring location may be used more, certainly it would suitable as an extra mooring for the pilot. The mooring belongs to the local district council. There is moorings for 2 or 3 boats if they are smaller outside of the Hotel Wroxham, we have always loved to moor there when ever possible, they have always charged for mooring, but in the distant past there used to be a discount if having a meal. I have spoken with the new owners last season and suggested that they ought to offer electric hook up for boats. Time will tell, but the situation of calling in for passes for parked cars when using the services of the hotel for functions/meals sets a president against boaters IMHO. Regards Alan
  9. Hi Simon, I remember seeing this or a longer video in the past, I think it was a promotional film of some kind. I am sure Carol will let us know all about it. Regards Alan
  10. Hi Andy, I fully agree with you that for the driver and the rest of the crew dealing with the eventuality of not being able to stop in time no matter what you can do and the aftermath of the accident and subsequent inquiry. Trains and any crossings must be treated with respect, I hope the plans for making the crossing at Brundall automatic does not come into fruition, the 90 plus trains a day going through this crossing is a major accident just waiting to happen if it ever becomes unmanned. It is not uncommon that boat trailers to be grounded on this crossing. Regards Alan

Hi Bob, I agree with Iain, watch out for the sun, I got burnt about 3 years ago on the top of my head the first time while visiting the Broads (and the first time ever). I struggled to get a wide brimmed hat, not much choice early on in season. Needless to say I now take it with me when we go away just in case. Going by your picture you are already prepared. Enjoy your holiday and if you get time the forum members do like reports and pictures of of their time on the Broads. Regards Alan
  12. A person was killed today after being hit by a train near Brundall Gardens http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/person_killed_after_being_hit_by_train_near_brundall_gardens_1_4534571

  19. Just looked in on the Peregrine webcam no parents there at the moment and one of the chicks quite active, Regards Alan
  20. Hi Neil, It tends to be the same with Ranworth Breeze & Southern Crusader, we see them only occasionally on the rivers. The boats are harder to distinguish now that Southern Crusader now has a canopy. Regards Alan
  21. I have never had a bad meal there, I wish I could say that of other well liked establishments. I can understand people not liking the pub's decor, the girls bringing out the food are always helpful, it is a drinkers pub with plenty of characters at the bar. Tan likes their steak & ale pie (one of their best sellers) or one of their salads, me the fish. Regards Alan
  22. Hello Rick, Welcome to the NBN forum. Regards Alan & Tan
  23. We liked the run into Norwich, but could not understand the no mooring signes in front of the old warehouses (now I assume converted flats) when there were the old mooring rings set into paving. The pictures of the mooring at the Yacht Station with the tree lined roads look idyllic, we went past the yacht station to turn round, which was tight but we managed, we were going to stop overnight but it was quite noisy even in the middle of the afternoon. We went back to Bramerton Common and a walk up to the pub, Tan likes to look out for the rabbits which are usually on the green at dusk and early in the morning. If you are lucky there is also a chance of seeing kingfishers in the bushes opposite the moorings. Regards Alan
  24. Hi Iain, As you say no room for the bin, its taken up with wash-hand basin & WC Regards Alan
