Fake fur is made from oil. Greenpeace should be condemning it and supporting mink farms. I suppose it all depends on whether you want to save the world or snub the wealthier people on it.

OK, if it's controversy you want, how about this. Mink fur is, I'm told, very warm. It doesn't contain any fossil fuels and is, when making coats, very labour intensive. The only downside is that it tends to be worn by posh women who have access to loads of dosh. Why are such garments frowned upon?

I ask this only out of idle curiosity... if a mink goes into an otters territory, would they fight, and if so, who would win?

Very fair comment SwanR, dogs are not liked by everyone and it does annoy me to see dogs off their leads in pubs, or worse, when the dog IS on a lead, but nobody is on the other end.

No update on the cycling malarkey bike is still in the car. Well, Spring has sprung. Cruised from Stalham to Sutton with the canopy slid back. Now I'm sat in the staithe, tank full of water, tank full of diesel and third tank pumped out. Here I sit drinking ... SHANDY... albeit ginger beer shandy and working out this last winter's fuel bill. Grand total including gas, leccy and diesel has worked out at £375 for November to March inclusive. £100 more than last years but I can live with that! Now, where did I stow that boat cleaning stuff.

Marshman, invasive species may not be a joke, but why does the BA make it so difficult to remove some of them? The American Signal Crayfish is very good eating but you need a license to take them, and the BA will not issue any. I would suggest hunting them to extinction then reintroducing the native one if necessary. If the mitten crab is also good to eat, same thing. Not all my witticisms are without merit.

Are they edible? Do they taste good? How do I catch them? Are they suitable for canapés to accompany a G&T? This is typical of the EDP, the really important information just isn't there.

I have a litre bottle which has a 5% mix of water (95%) to 5% loo blue. When leaving the loo with its river water in, I pour about a pub spirit measure of this diluted blue in. It's just enough to stop smells, but not so strong as to rot seals. I've been doing this for 3 years now with no probs.

Well well well. It's just gone 18:00 and there's still a little light in the sky. I've heard my first boom of a bittern for this year, yes even at Richardson's Stalham they may be heard, this for me is the first real sign of spring. The second sign is a sudden and overwhelming desire to clean my boat. Please let me make it perfectly clear, the desire for me to clean my boat, and my actually doing so are two very different things, one being a sign of spring, the other being a modern miracle. I notice a new schoolboy member has joined us. Well Charlie, if you ever consider a waterside employment and you fancy boat-cleaning as a starter, please do let me know, though you may think climbing up chimneys could be preferable. However, I digress. Spring is on its way, and I find my mind wandering, as most gentleman's minds do, towards engine maintenance and boat cleaning. You never know, one spring I might actually do it.

This might be a stupid question/observation but has the water level at Yarmouth yacht station changed owing to the rain? (At low water) I cannot believe it has.
