  1. A client that I have just completed this bathroom wall tiling today gave me his old recently removed hardwood window frames. They were installed 35 years ago so its well seasoned. The timber is Mahogany. It needs some nails / Screws / metal fittings removed, the ends squared up on my sliding chop saw, then planing clean. It has been left out in the rain for about a month 'There May Be Trouble Ahead' As I have brought the lot into our lounge to dry out before MrsG appears. Nowt wrong with that, that I can see. What could possibly go wrong? Griff
  2. Last weekend saw mysen, Bro' and Robin onboard for a maintenance weekend. Friday morning I was round at J.W's to sort out some shower tiling for him then got stuck into 'B.A' Robin deep cleaned 'B.A's canopy inside and out then applied a protective application of 'Armour All' (Damn good stuff is that) Bro' commenced with a deep clean commencing Fwd including under decks and bunks, all windows out, rain channels cleaned etc. Me? into those cant rails once more, sorting out the angles / joints on the Foc'sle was a right pig and took many attempts on the chop saw on spare bits of gash softwood before I got it somewhat like. I had fashioned the cant rails from out store of 'No Name Hardwood' previously round at J.W's I had made corner pieces for up Fwd from some of our closely guarded Teak, this was a real challenge due to each pice haveing different angles in three dimensions, they took me hours to get right. However working using quality sharp tools with Teak is a genuine joy. By secure on Sunday afternoon all the cant rails had been fastened in place, that is sealent applied to two faces, screw shank drilled and screwed, joints sanded smooth. More to follow Griff
  3. I quite like the 'Meddlesome Pike' Often tells is like it is or should be Griff
  4. Nipper (Doug) or me if about but you would still need it checked out by a qualified gas safe person on completion I would advise Griff
  5. Sadly, we probably ain't at the bottom of the barrel yet either Griff
  6. 'B.A's current canopy was made by Snugtopz - Never had an issue with it - Well recommended Griff
  7. Used the NDR yesterday, left Stalham at 1630 - It was dark of course, straight through Wroxham and onto the NDR, right through to the Western end then onto the A47. It was at that time of day the busiest I have seen it, yet no problems it was fast moving and a pleasure to be on. I had no issues with the much talked about roundabouts or lane markings, neither did anyone else that I could see Griff
  8. I’m quite happy for it to be in the public area. The more folk know we are cctv covered and alarmed up the better Griff
  9. Cctv adjusted. Malanka now under constant watch and care Griff
  10. The shed does have its own dedicated cctv cameras, wether these are actually active and record or not we know not but would like to think they are. The other boat in the shed that Martin refers to that has it’s own dedicated cctv camera system is of course us and ‘B.A’ it is fully operational. However where our neighbour Malanka is concerned there is only a small part of her covered as we were mindful of not ‘spying’ on any of our neighbours. In hindsight now, that was a cock up. A cock up I will rectify in the morning having conversed with Martin. ‘B.A’ also has her own onboard intruder alarm system that is active with real time alerts to our mobiles. This system is operational whether we are in the shed or out on the rivers. Why? Since ‘B.A’ got burgled in the wetshed a few years ago and for our future peace of mind Griff
  11. So now you know what those Teak plugs I made are for - To use when fastening the teak light pads onto the cabin sides. But what about those 'No name' hardwood plugs? Griff
  12. Sunday afternoon saw me in a mates workshop with his assistance we got set to and produced the teak backing pads for 'B.A's new led deck lights. The first stage was to make them out onto some of our prized Teak stock. We did this by using the light as a template them running around it with a white pencil in a suitably sized washer Then cut them out on the bandsaw Sand them down accuratley Back onto the bandsaw cut them down into three's Plane off one face so it was perfectly flat Set the guide on the bandsaw to the correct angle as 'B.A's cabin sides are not at right angles to the decks, we want the lights to light the deck up not go star gazing, cut each pad back accordingly Open out the centres to allow for the cables / connections And again Ready for trip to Norfolk. They are of course not the finished product yet, the inside openings have to be sanded clean, the outside edges need the corners rounding off, final 240g sanding then they can be fitted / varnished multiple times before the lights are fitted / connected Griff
  13. Here we go yet again. I'll be onboard late this evening or early in t morning, then to be joined by Bro and the Rascal. A maintenance weekend for the three of us. Not taking 'B.A' out anywhere, just getting stuck in as per the norm. The evenings spent onboard in the shed will be welcome, dinner, drinks, dvd and the heating on. What's not to like? Griff
  14. Chuffin eck, so the standard of driving in the Fire service is that bad that they all have to be retested each year? Griff
  15. Griff (BA) used to wear a hat like that! I did too although it never said 'Newcastle' on it. Plenty of other names but to mention just some of em:- Raleigh, Mercury, Rame Head, Display Team, Cincfleet, Antrim, Glasgow, Gibraltar, Whitehall, Droxford, Attacker, Forest Moor, Falklands, Kolsas, OXP (Lots of em) Quorn, Explorer, Gibraltar and the current one? - Strawberry Mivvy (Civvy) Griff
  16. When I try and log into 'the other place' I get a message "the domain name has expired". It could be just a blip or the Hamster has run out of beer chits. If it has run out of beer chits, that comes as no surprise, their active membership has been on a steady decline for an age. They have more censors than active members. The 'Proper' mods left / stopped posting ages ago now. Hope this Helps, Griff
  17. All mad quite mad! Ahem, I ain't mad, if I'm honest I'm not even slightly miffed Griff
  18. They are 'Under-Lining it, A trial so I am informed Griff
  19. Er, does he need assistance? Griff
  20. Being a NagNav I would offers ain't a sexist thing, male or female alike are equally capable of it. Being on the receiving end of it - if you are driving, concentrating and also trying to enjoy the journey - It ain't nice. Anyroadup, in our particular situation it is now cured and sorted. As for helming the boat - I wish, MrsG rarely takes the helm, I wish she would do more of it Griff
  21. It's a shame the same common sense can't be applied. If you want to attract visitors you have to provide facilities for them. And that is the nail being hit firmly and squarely on the head. We all of us know, that is hirers, privateers, anglers, twitchers, canoodlists, cyclists - the whole lot - about the need for basic facilities and applying common sense. I find it infuriating that the powers that be who are 'In control' (Really?) cannot or refuse to apply common sense and get it sorted out. It ain't rocket science, and nowhere near the levels of debate required for Brexit, its just a few refuse points around the system that require managing. For goodness sake. God help the guests if they ever had to organising a party in a brewery Griff
  22. A couple of years ago now a similar scenario arose whenever I was driving, my MrsG in what seemed like overnight had morphed into a driving examiner and a NagNav combined. I just couldn't cope with it. But what to do? I found the answer. Having left home bound for Stalham on our regular journey we had only gone a few miles and the NagNav kicked in. Once on the A1 way before turning off at Newark so we had only done about 15 of the 160 miles, I pulled into a laybay, got out of the car, walked round to the passenger door, instructed Mrs G to get out which she did. I then got in the passenger seat, shut the door belted up and told her to drive, wake me up when we got to Stalham and keep note of how many 'Directives' I gave her during the journey. She was far from happy but it cured her of the NagNav. On the odd occasion she feels the need to regress I just slow down and ask if she would like to drive? - Sorted You can't do this with Sheila as she doesn't drive, but when she goes into NagNav mode you could suggest she is 'Relagated' to the Barges boot for the remainder of the journey! Griff
  23. If our respective governments did not send so much foreign aid to countries that have their own space programme (To highlight just one example) then maybe foodbanks and homeless wouldn't be so prevalent Griff
  24. you'd then run aground on Hickling. And a whole lot of other places too no doubt Griff
