YnysMon
Whooho! Speeded up or what! Actually, given the way you had speeded up the video I was impressed that you weren’t waving around more than it appeared. Normally when people speed up their videos it makes me feel sea sick, but I didn’t get that with your video, so well done! Really beautiful sky. More videos please! And I don’t do slapping. (Well maybe Trump is an exception.) Helen

Guest
And my thread returns..... Saturday 26th October It was a cold and wet morning when I packed up the car to its absolute limits, the kids were up and ready to go well before our planned departure time of 0830, but the usual struggles of stretching the car around our belongings for the week aboard Moonlight Shadow once more, unfortunately meant that as I rolled off of the drive of our home it was around 0845. The journey to the boat started off with heavy rain, the wipers on the windscreen working overtime and the headlights shining bright on the dark wet road ahead, but by the time we were around half way to our destination of Brundall the rain had stopped, and the roads were drying off fairly well. We made good progress despite heavy traffic and arrived at Broom's yard by 1145, not the quickest journey but it wasn't too bad all things considered. Pulling up beside our boat, we found the maintenance and cleaning had been completed, so we relieved the car of it's burden and loaded up Moonlight Shadow, ensuring of course that the beer was well packed into the fridge to chill, and then made our way around for the ritual of a quick dinner for the kids at The Yare, whilst I wet my whistle with half a shandy.........or something similar Returning to the boat we finished off our preparations and finally, after almost 6 months, I took Shadow from her moorings and began another adventure as we headed down the River Yare in the direction of Reedham. It was grey, windy and wet as we progressed along the water but we didn't care, just happy to be on the boat once again Over the bank Cantley came into view, which could only mean that in another 6 hours we would finally actually reach it We passed a number of boats travelling along the way but moorings at Cantley, Reedham Ferry and Reedham were plentiful, but we didn't stop as I had silly plans of my own I continued onwards through Reedham Swing Bridge and bearing left to continue on the Yare avoiding the New Cut as we moved ever onwards towards the Berney Arms, followed by Breydon Water. Those that read my ramblings will be aware that I am not one for making plans and take things as they come, well it was around 1630 as we reached Breydon Water, which was apparently slack water time at Yarmouth. The bridge gauge showing 11 foot blah blah. With her roof up Shadow requires 8 foot and so off I set across Breydon, there was hours of daylight left anyway right?.......Right???? The grey and gloomy weather continued as we crossed Breydon, and then eventually reached Breydon Bridge at around 1700. Checking the Bridge Height Gauge before I turned past the yellow post the height was now apparently 8' 3" I headed up the Bure with the assistance of the tide and passed beneath the bridges with plenty to spare. Yarmouth Yacht Station was fairly busy but with plenty of spaces remaining but I continued on up the river as the light faded and the rain began to increase. Inside the boat however we were having a great time and so the weather didn't matter. One thing I did notice once again as the darkness descended is that my phone does a great job of making night time photos look like daytime, irrespective of this it grew darker and darker as we moved up the Bure (obviously) and by the time we were about halfway between Yarmouth and Stokesby it was pitch black on the river and the rain had started to fall much much more. I had a play around with the settings on my phone And managed to show the conditions a little better....it was great. Anyway, by the time I reached the Stracey Arms I was cold, wet and loving it so continued on to Stokesby where I planned to stay for the night but best plans and all that there was no space on the staithe so I decided to continue on. By around 1915 I reached Acle, the pub moorings were busy as were the BA moorings but I managed to get in at Pedro's moorings in the dark and wind with no problem. After a quick walk for the dogs vital needs we headed over to the Bridge Inn (surprise ) The pub was decorated up ready for Halloween and busy but we got a table and enjoyed a great evening having a laugh together, the other pub visitors didn't haven't our stamina however Once finished it was back to the boat for a final natter. After I had taken the dog for a final walk we headed off to bed at around 0030 for a well earned rest.

I love it my friend, I can't get enough. The 6 months was due to our shift work, inability to get the holidays I needed especially around school times, and obviously other commitments too. It's been far far too long, but I guess I am still lucky to be able to manage as often as I generally do and I have a few weeks coming up over the winter so I dare not complain too much although when that lottery win comes up, I'll be buying my own boat and ruddy living here

Guest
Sunday 27th October After the clocks had been changed backwards during the night, I woke up in the welcome Acle sunshine I threw on some clothes and took the dog out for her morning walk before returning to the boat for a latte or two. The kids joined me shortly after and we had a chat before departing our mooring at around 0925 The kids like to have a look around Lathams and get some buns from the bakery whenever we come up north so that was our next destination. We had a slow and steady journey in the wonderful sunshine, the cold breeze was cutting but that dropped a little as the day went on. It was once again fairly busy on the rivers for October Upon reaching Potter Heigham the first set of quiet moorings were fenced off and the water was topping the bank, the second set were free and the quay heading a little higher I continued up to the bridge however but I found there were no spaces available at the BA moorings and so turned around to return to the available quiet moorings whilst the Rhond anchors were brought out for me, it was now around 1030. Once I had secured the boat and adjusted the fenders to protect the boat we walked up to the village and everyone invaded Lathams for all those things they didn't know they needed whilst I took the dog for a walk up the road. Just happening by chance to pass The Falgate Inn I would have popped inside for a quick exchange of beer tokens but unfortunately it didn't open until 12, so I returned back down the road and waited outside Lathams. By the time I was joined by the rest of the crew it was around 1130 and knowing that the Norada pub didn't open for another half an hour either I made a sneaky suggestion of an early spot of dinner in Bridgestones where we could sit inside with the dog. The gullible tribe accepted my suggestion and in we went so the kids could have a sandwich and a drink whilst I finally successfully got a beer... Whilst I sat enjoying the booze the kids ate their dinner and over the speaker they played Michael Buble's greatest hits, which raised a smile as I thought how much my Grace would have loved to be sat surrounded by his music for an hour or so......or maybe not 1220 and I was in the Norada fetching myself a fine pint of Stella (sorry Monsieur Nog) whilst the kids returned to Lathams as they had forgotten something they "needed" before rejoining me, we sat having a chat and a laugh for a while. We set off back to the boat around 1330 And by 1345 we had reached the boat which still sat alone except for the birds I set off in the October sunshine once again back down the Thurne, rejoining the Bure and then heading off up the River Ant. All rivers were busy and the usual fun and games ensued as I reached Ludham Bridge, the height gauge showed 7'6" so we lowered the roof and I held station beside Ludham Bridge boatyard whilst 2 boats proceeded through in front of us coming from the other side of the bridge Once the 2 boats had cleared the bridge I proceeded through and looked back to see the boat behind smashing into one side of the bridge before doing the same to the other one, seeing as they were finding it hilarious to be doing so I felt it was a good decision to get my boat as far away from them as I could do and so continued up the River Ant and was soon enjoying the clearly visible arrival of Autumn to the Broads. Again the Ant was fairly busy, and we meandered our winding way up the river passing How Hill, many occupied wild moorings and eventually Irstead before the expanse of Barton Broad. I crossed the Broad heading in the direction of Stalham, but once we reached the turn off I continued straight ahead as we were heading for Wayford Bridge instead. By now it was around 1630 and I was losing the daylight fast but enjoyed the winding journey past Hunsett Mill and reaching the bridge I found, somewhat unsurprisingly that the moorings were full. With no possibility of getting under the bridge and heading to Dilham instead, I turned the boat around and headed back the way we had come, asking the kids if they would prefer a night in Stalham or a quiet evening on the boat playing games moored at Paddy's Lane. The quiet night aboard was selected and so in the dark with nav lights turned on I made our way to the moorings By 1730 we were secured up, the path up to the road was fairly badly flooded and so we gave up trying to reach The White Horse in Neatishead, instead we got a selection of games out and spent the evening talking and playing before we headed off to bed ready for another day
