Dredging On Oulton Broad 19th August Until 13 September

Good morning

Navigation Restriction due to Dredging Operation on Oulton Broad 2019 (at TM51074 92730).

Notice is hereby given that dredging operations are programmed to commence from 19 August 2019 until 13 September 2019, during the hours of 0800 hours and 1600 hours daily, excluding weekends.

The works may restrict the access passage of vessels, however, the navigation channel will remain open but mariners must exercise great care whilst proceeding past the works.

All equipment will be lit and signage will be in place to warn of restrictions and delays.

From a personal point of view this is almost like doing roadworks in the summer holidays, one does have to ask why is this being undertaken during this period when the southern broads should be at its busiest during the season. Also will this effect the Power Boat Racing on Oulton Broad during this 4 week period?

Of far greater importance could it effect:-

Power boating happens throughout the summer... The regatta is but once a year!

oops looks like someone dropped the ball there, planning dredging works at the same time as the racing - unless that is the two things are in different areas of the broad?  so while there is a restriction from one thing there might as well be a restriction for both?

Hi all,

Just had a chat with colleagues in the Construction team to clarify a few points.

Can confirm that the works are well out of the way taking place in North Bay and shouldn't affect either Oulton Week or the Powerboat racing (which takes place in the evenings).

Oulton Week....don't want to dampen the spirits of the week but the volume of their “under canopy disco” till almost 11pm last night was a bit on the loud side.  Thats when you consider I live at least 3/4 of a mile away from the sailing club in a straight line!!

Re dredging in the North Bay, no problem to yours truly but where is the dredger?

Just shows that you cannot please all of the people all of the time!! I think it very civilised to stop by 11 p.m. - it might have been a different issue if they had carried on until 1 a.m.

It wasn't really a complaint but it must have been loud at the disco, I think Aldeby had it worse with the  illegal rave!

Good to see that they have learnt their lesson though!!! I see the bog is lashed down so it cannot blow away as the one at Potter did earlier this year!!!

I hope the blue boxes have improved somewhat in the last 40 years or so, back in the day they were dire when we had to use them on site, it was a good job back then we had more access to public toilets.

I think a lot of the problems with the blue boxes is down to regular cleaning and maintenance, they can be quite useable if regularly cleaned and respected by the users. others encountered on sites have been decidedly unfriendly.
