smitch6
Sad post...... Not sure how many of you knew Mike who was the harbour master at beccles Quay? But he was diagnosed with Leukaemia in the summer after having trouble breathing. I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago and he said he was doing well after treatment but..... I just received an email saying that Mike sadly died last night (saturday) after getting an infection last week. For those of you that knew Mike he was really friendly and always helped you out when he could with letting you moor up and pop into town without paying etc. His wife Anna and daughter Debs and him were such a close family, i used to take the mickey out of him when his wife would call him 'My Michael' bless his heart. Mike may you RIP my dear friend Thanks for being a friend you will be sadly missed

smitch6
yes as i said i spoke to him regularly and he said he was doing really well after the treatment and sounded really positive. but i suppose the infection he caught was just too fierce for him it really shocked both my wife and myself when i got the email earlier
BuffaloBill
That really is very sad news! I got to know Mike fairly well and I will miss him. A more helpful man you would struggle to find. I believe his daughter is in Oz so will hit her hard. She came over last year and we met her at the YS and he was beaming with pride! Our sympathies to the family. Bill and Jenny. smitch6
I believe she's in Switzerland, she came back when he was 1st diagnosed but went back when he started to improve. I made some signs for Mike to surprise her to go on her mini

ranworthbreeze
I saw and spoke with Mike in early November, he had come back on duty on the morning of a fishing match. He will be sadly missed by his workmates and everyone that knew him. R.I.P Alan
BuffaloBill
In answer to smitch6, when we did the NBF CinC at Beccles last year in August, his daughter had just come over from Oz for a holiday and was going back after. She may be in Switzerland now for all I know, but she definitely came from Oz when we saw her, as we spoke of our time out there.

Hi Hylander Mike was the most recent Harbour Master for Beccles, The Oulton Broad boys have been covering for him since the summer when Mike became ill. Although Mike being Mike still managed to get into the office occasionally whist undergoing treatment.
Hylander
Thank you very much for letting me know, only I have an elderly neighbour whom I happened to mention it to and he was so distressed as it could have been his old pal that I had to check up as to which Harbour Master we were referring to. I can now go and let him know but that was just personal to himself. We still cannot get over such a sad loss.
