  1. And hundreds of pubs won't and don't pay to be in there, Howard. Particularly in my home county of Lincolnshire and I'd think most pubs "Oop North" where prices are much as you mention around your area.
  2. Perhaps we might all just nicely ask those pubs that don't have times on their signs to do so and politely explain why? That way then maybe everyone will be happy!
  3. Part of the problem is, Peter, that some folks moor outside a pub and then eat onboard. This does happen, I've seen it. So if the owner takes a booking, at least he's certain to get something out of it, surely? Most put up a sign with times on it and anyone can use that space before others arrive.
  4. Snowy, Hi. Cosmic Muffin has a fascinating background back to Howard Hughes. Here's the link: http://www.crazedfanboy.com/npcr/laflapcr178.html
  5. You're repeating yourself, Peter! Posted 13 hours ago "It's just as annoying as arriving at a pub to find that the empty moorings have been reserved, really no different. Actually I'm totally against reserved moorings but it goes on, suppose I'll just have to get used to it! I used to occasionally have similar feelings but got into the habit of checking that moorings would be available. It only takes a quick 'phone call to ask.
  6. No, honest Grace, flirts? Just that you're all charming!
  7. A warm "Welcome Aboard" from us, too! Please take heed of what our Gracie says above.... she's one of our many lady charmers onboard!
  8. Of course they have the right, Polly, it's their private property after all. At the New Inn, where you mention Gus, you are expected to pay for this privilege by having a meal with them.
  9. A belated "Warm Welcome Aboard" from us, Mark and Jules.
  10. A Warm "Welcome Aboard" from us, Colin & Elaine. I'm sure that you're going to have a great time onboard!
  11. Have a really Lovely Day, Inge! John & Mary-Jane XX
  12. For which I have nothing but total admiration!
  13. So sorry to hear about your obnoxious table peeps at Sonia's, Mike. We've visited there frequently and never had such an experience, as Richard says above. In fact we've always had the most pleasant dining experiences there. Looking forward to hear about all the rest of your hols while we're here in wet and windy Devon!
  14. Tim, I've followed this thread from the beginning...... Am I the only one who wonders just where do you get the patience to keep going despite all that's thrown at you? I think that she's an extremely lucky old girl to have you!
  15. Andrew, Hi. They are low wash if kept below their displacement speed and then it's not the designer's fault for anticipating that peeps might try to exceed this . At legal speeds I have noted that they are indeed low wash.
  16. Not quite literally, please! (Sorry, Gracie)
  17. Ok, peeps; here's what happened (and I don't want any sympathy, thanks). I hid the thread for my reasons which I'll explain where it should be explained. In the Moderators' Room. Unfortunately my wife was ill throughout the night and I had little sleep after I'd hidden the thread. I'm up and about every day by 6am usually and intended to PM peeps and take all the other actions that we Moderators do of our own free will in our own time. I then had to take my wife out to have remedial actions and have only just got back online.
  18. Just read this, Charlie. I completely agree. This is just a friendly request and NOT a "moderation warning".
  19. Cheesey, Hi. (Mod hat OFF) While I'm in agreement with you perhaps, when it comes to hire boats, I know that Alan (RB) has to spend a considerable amount of his limited holiday time teaching newcomers to Ranworth Breeze how to helm her reasonably well. If it's then dark when he's finished then so be it. RB is NOT a hire boat but the pride and joy of its co-owners who DO care about what happens to their boat when it goes out with newbies at the helm. Insurance doesn't come into a it. Perhaps I've misunderstood but I think that you've got it wrong on this occasion.
  20. Which is why the the Guidelines prohibit naming and shaming, David. "The NBN does not subscribe to 'naming and shaming'. i.e. pictures or descriptions of accidents where either the boats or people are recognisable". If peeps wish to post such pictures then we ask that any identification is removed in order to comply with the above. In future any such threads posted without removing identification will be deleted.
  21. I thought that it was a classic falling tide case, Vaughan. He left it too late to turn and was swept sideways under the bridge?
