  1. Anyone going to Bosworth Battlefield this weekend?
  2. A thought maybe about these helmets, if the ball gets through the grid on the helmet then I would have thought it wasn't suitable for purpose. I think the helmets are necessary because when David Lloyd of Warwickshire was hit by a ball from Malcolm Marshall he lost his sight in one eye, nearly lost his life and as far as I know never played professional cricket again. For that reason alone I think helmets are necessary. A problem is when batsmen take their eyes off the ball and it suddenly veers/swings into them, but that sort of comment is best coming from Iain, who played a much higher standard of cricket than I. American football helmets sometimes, as well as the grid or face mask, wear a sort of transparent shield with the grid to stop getting poked in the eye, perhaps similar thing could be adapted for cricket helmets. Finally, I think it does occur that people take risks at times because they have a false sense of security with safety equipment, for instance you could still fall in the water with a life jacket and if no one is about and you can't get out you could die from hypothermia, so you still need to be careful. Here endeth the sermon.
  3. Hello Tim and a very warm welcome from me too. When I was yoof we used holiday in Devon, a lovely county, Valley of the Rocks in particular.
  4. Nice sight Neil, I believe you can have a flight on the Canadian one, in Canada. There are also flights in South Africa on a Lightning, I think a Buccaneer and I cannot remember the others. I believe there are pleasure flights on old aeroplanes in the United States. I used to do an air show once a year flying in on a DC3 and was going to do one to Jersey but our European masters stepped in and put end to that. Another freedom gone.
  5. Beautiful is not a word I would use Tim, if I saw one on board though I would throw it overboard rather than that squashed mess to clear up. "Use your own raft not mine." Strumpshaw Fen is one the places we are thinking of visiting next time there, since we'll have a 12 year old nature lover with us.
  6. Well done Alan and the Moderators that was prompt work and thank you. Keith
  7. Aah, got it now, A47. Keith
  8. Very pleased for you Mandy and Co, hope you get to have a great time on MS, we're back on board the 30th of this month. Not personal by the way, just reflecting the mode of transport. Keith
  9. I think we should get an army together and go and give the North a bl**dy good conquering; except Polly of course, she'd skin us alive. : Keith
  10. Hello Spider, Welcome aboard, hope you enjoy the forum and look forward to your contributions. Best wishes, Keith
  11. Hi Pauline, Missie Leigh would be with friends and the willing crew could certainly put her feet up - "It's alright dear, I'll do everything." Guests here, night night, everyone. Keith
  12. Hiya Grace, You've sort of hit on a thing that we would like to do that is mud weight for the whole week, without going on land at all. We would have to plan well, something we have never really done and we mostly wing it. First night, Saturday, would have to be Surlingham and then take it from there and work our way up to Salhouse and back perhaps. So if I may climb aboard your thread and see if anyone can come up with any ideas for a route, for a week of mudweighting. Perhaps we could stay South for the whole week and then do North the following year. Firstly though we need to find someone to borrow our dog for a week and you are right about TV it's chronic. Keith (we'll be having a few of these this evenig )
  13. Hello and welcome aboard to an enjoyable forum. Keith
  14. "Nice to diverse occasionally from the Broads I think." Agreed Iain as I have said elsewhere, it is a strength of this forum that we can do so. "we used to compete to see who could get the closest gun-sight pics of her, some were very close... definitely non-PC, H&S or anything else... but it was good fun!" Hi John, In my CAA days I was involved with an incident, we used to call it an Airmiss, when the civvy pilot was convinced two Tornadoes were targeting him deliberately. Now we know for sure! You lucky person Dave I wish I was offered a flight in one, I'd snap your hand off. In my time in the RAF it used be said that only beauty queens and VIPs got flights in these aircraft and with respect you are not a beauty queen. I've chipped into the Vulcan funds for a few years now with a regular monthly payment and the odd lump sum. From what I've seen from the website 2015 is going to be the last year of flights. Great shame. I also liked the Victor, the Lightning and once of the best looking airliners ever to grace the skies in my opinion the VC10. The VC10, the military one, could also make that howel, similar to the Vulcan when taking off; we used to get a fix of engine noise at Changi as it cranked up and then thundered down the runway, you could actually feel it. Those were the days. Keith

I meant to add, trust Grace to start a thread about nudity. Keith

    Nude Cruises

Somwhat off topic but Tim's tale reminded me of an incident several years ago when a certain person not sitting too far from me had an urgent call of nature during a car treasure hunt. Not being bought up in these 'ere parts, she had never seen stinging nettles before and duly squatted in a bunch of them; well I thought it was funny. Keith

    Frack off

Interesting thread and I am glad to see the lid is staying on. Noting one of John's posts, perhaps this of interest. It is only one person's opinion though. https://www.hcn.org/blogs/goat/fracking-fracing-or-fraccing As for me I am six and two threes, I live about 3 miles as the crow flies from a fracking site and nobody I know noticed a tremor. I think another consideration is the chemicals being used, some pretty nasty ones I believe. Keith
  18. "So moving to Australia was aversion therapy??" Not really Pauline, while we visiting Hanging Rock towards the end of the Australian trip a spider with a red spot on its back landed on Gareth and boy you should have seen that dance routine. With the usual wifely sympathy, Sandra couldn't stop laughing. Keith
  19. You could try a terrier, she doesn't approve of anything smaller than her being allowed to live. Leigh is a bit slow for rabbits these days, but frogs, spiders, flies and moles are fair game to her. The not quite so lean, mean, killing machine. Dave, I have a son who was a rather good roughie toughie rugby player but cannot stand spiders and I rather suspect his wife Sandra plays a similar role to Jen. Personally I don't mind one or two hanging around, I like flies less. Keith
  20. Hello Alan, Moonlight Shadow, has a sudden spare week and Lisa couldn't get the leave and I have two hospital appointments this week. The warfarin one I could have cancelled for a couple of weeks, but the ankle one would have been difficult to re-arrange. C'est la vie! I have just heard a radio announcement about our favourite road the A17, it is very slow apparently - it is always very slow, it is just various degrees of slowness. I never use it now, I would perhaps in the middle of the night as I have done once. "I guess that with the school holidays almost upon us this is then thought to be the ideal time for this type of work." I'll pull up a splinter and sit on the BOG bench with you! Same over here, we live near a place called Martin Mere, similar to Slimbridge and Southport is only about ten miles away and so there is a fair bit of holiday traffic and up go the temporary traffic lights and so on. I agree with Grace and Matt allow yourself some R & R time and let your hair down or take it off. Have some fun, goo on! Keith
  21. Hi Alan, We overlap you by three days, hope you have a great time and our burgee will be revealed for the first time this trip. Likewise Martin and Matt, have a nice time. Keith
  22. Hello Jill_R, nice to see you back on here, hadn't seen you for awhile, wondered where you had got to. Keith
  23. I was indeed meaning Mark Nicholas, so thanks for that. Yes that Indian number 11 only had an average of 3.3 runs before this match. My health issues are viral heart failure and an artificial ankle, being the main ones. Someone not far from me was watching channel 5 and with a puzzled expression said "tuck him up". At least she hasn't asked "what's a pull stroke." yet! Have a nice weekend, I'm about to be sent off the lappy so her ladyship can do the quiz. Keith
  24. Bring back Dermot Reeve, but the English Cricket Establishment hate maverick thinkers. Mark ?????? once said of him, "he never lets a game sit." A common failing I think with English captains. Our Dermot once opened the bowling for Warwickshire against Kent and got three wickets. I don't remember Steve Waugh having serious problems with his form, I think as a general rule of thumb that Australian captains are more stronger minded than their English counterparts. Hope you are in reasonable nick Iain. Keith
  25. "Goverments keep coming up with these knee jerk reactions/solutions when ever anything happens in the media and it is making this this once proud country more of a namby pamby state." Hi Alan, agreed and with our politicians who needs enemies. As for me drinking and helming nothing much maybe the odd beer, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 etc. Just kidding of course, maybe a small beer on a long cruise, although I am not supposed to drink anything. Keith
