  1. Hello Sean and a warm welcome to the NBN, I hope you enjoy the forum, look forward to your posts.
  2. "The adnams gin is also very nice." As is their vodka. Camels, there is an old rude joke about camels!
  3. "when I was a brat." I cannot imagine that Pauline, I daresay you were a divine little girl! Anyway back to the thread we are on Moonlight Shadow 27 Dec - 04 Jan at Brundall.
  4. My dad was in the Guards Armoured Division and drove a Churchill Tank, again he said very little about his experiences. I, as a little boy, remember asking him what was the best gun and another time asked him what was the worst fighting to which he answered with, a faraway look, that German eighty-eights were a wonderful, I think that was the word. The worst fighting, street fighting. There was a time when he looked into a knocked out tank, they were ordered not to, he never did it again; that little snippet came from mum. He also went to Korea where for his pains he caught TB, tricky in those days and he spent two years on his back. During the course of this illness my parents asked a Labour Council for a council house we were refused, a grateful country indeed. I get Labrador's point Dave and he did put a question mark after writing pointless and I think I understand you, no soldier's life is pointless, but if the Taliban take back all the land they were ousted from then the whole war and consequently the soldier's sacrifice would have been pointless? My son wanted to be a Marine and I think he would have made a good Marine Officer, I also knew if I said no he would have signed up the following day so I just asked him to read the newspaper and look how badly they are being equipped. Remember the sergeant who got killed having lent his flack jacket to someone because there were weren't enough of them and then there were the ****** Land Rovers. Personally I do not think the politicians are worth a bruise. Anyway to all the armed forces a very inadequate thank you from me for all your sacrifices. Thank you.
  5. Hi and a warm welcome from me Sarah, I hope you enjoy the forum.
  6. Hello Marina, "I do like the mermaids they are different . Is anyone going to the states who could bring them back for me ." If you are serious, we know a tame British Airways steward who frequently flies to the U S of A, with the help of an aeroplane of course! We could ask him he if could bring some back on his next trip. I forgot to add they will be cheaper over there than they are here.
  7. Mr Flappy was delicious, I don't know how Iain found out. "Scots type people on here Lol, they are lovely though don't ya think" They are indeed Grace and one of their number who lived in Musselburgh kept calling me Ken "do ya ken", "ken", "ken". I was going to give you four likes but people might talk, got be careful with that spelling again. I like this forum because it is varied within its main theme and the reason for its being - The Norfolk Broads.
  8. "Anybody ever met that guy `Roger` on the airwaves" On that note Siddy, I've always been wary of the order "Roger that."
  9. Hi Mark and a very warm welcome to the good ship NBN. We too are based at Brundall, looking forward to seeing some of your posts, don't have a clue about fishing though.
  10. Congratulations on your find Grendel, looks in excellent condition. Right then! "will remember it vividly! :naughty:" My dad would remember 1946, were he still here, the year he got married to my mummy, I turned up the following year. "don't look a day over 90," I am deeply deeply offended, nah not really Grace, I look in a mirror only when I have to and at times think that could be quite a generous appraisal. I'm off to preen myself.
  11. Some nice photographs out there; of the David Collection I think I would pick 5 and 7. I like yours too M. Sunsets, sunrises along with nice clouds and landscapes, seascapes work for me. I would purchase a calendar if they become a reality.
  12. "and then proceeded to give the new engine of diesel persuasion the awfiest blootering of revs, this apparently happens with diesel cars if you drive them too gently, they bung up wi sooty deposits!" We are told hoof Moonlight Shadow when on Breydon, for that very reason, clears the cobwebs so to the speak. Sorry the weather wasn't always great, but glad you are pleased with your Frenchie, "Vive la France," mon ami. (I am glad I checked that with Lisa, Iain you nearly got mon aime, my beloved) Hope your debit card is out of intensive care by now!
  13. Thanks for the info Siddy, that is another string to the bow. I have just had a look at the company website.
  14. Thank you Grace, that is very nice of you to say so, but where's the kiss. I feel that I am leaving myself open to some smarty retort here! Your sucking up noted, you can say what you like. I'd better stop digging!
  15. I thought Strowager's reply was spot on, I am going to do a Marine VHF course for no other reason than I want to. I was hoping to do a course this year but events meant I couldn't. £85 pounds a pop over here, then the radio on top of that, an Icom handheld or the like. The Harbour Masters can also be contacted by VHF and for that matter mobile phone.
  16. Another one for you Jill, in my view this is the best version of "Comfortably Numb." I never played this while Gareth was growing up, I thought it would spoil his dream of rugby stardom if I kept hearing the line - "The child has grown, the dream has gone" The child has gone and is now living his dream with his wife, Sandra, in Australia. Hope the link works okay.
  17. Nice one Jill, what a fun thread; I could give Tim two likes but people might talk! Here is my contribution to the nostalgia, I saw Them around c. 1965 at the Ritz, King's Heath, Birmingham. Here is what they were like then, the film's not great and the lip sync. is a bit out. I seem to remember Van Morrison's hair longer that shown, but it was a long time ago.
  18. Hi again Mandy, There is another 10lbs + fermenting away, to be ready for next year.
  19. Hi Shepster, Hello and a warm welcome to the NBN. I am not a fisherman myself, but was at Cantley at the beginning of the month and a guy fishing there caught a fair few and wasn't particularly impressed with his catch compared to other days there.
  20. Hi Mandy, Thanks for stopping off at Cantley to say hello to us at the beginning of the month, it was an absolute delight to meet you and your family. I hope the rest of the holiday went well for you all. Maybe see you in October at the AGM. Best wishes
  21. Ooh Iain what car did you get, if you don't mind me asking and are you pleased with it so far? I know this isn't the right thread, perhaps see you in the lounge or PM.
  22. Can't stand the woman(JSP), it's probably a very good show and I am quite interested in local produce from where ever, but nothing can get me changing channels or switching off more than her. At the risk of being controversial Harriet Harperson as well. On another note, I'm a bit of a sucker for locally made produce and am always buying from farm shops and the like, Norfolk included. On yet another note I have never actually driven past Tebay services(upper reaches of the M6) and not bought some Isle of Mull cheddar, amongst other produce.
  23. Congratulations on becoming the new owners of a rather smart looking boat, hope you both have great time cruising over the coming years.
  24. A belated hello from me Clive and Kathy, welcome aboard and like others I have seen your boat on occasion and like others the name does make me smile. In fact I was on the Broads in the middle of July and first week in September and I am sure I saw you about then.
  25. Absolutely right Iain and Martin, how dare Kadensa try to put this thread back on topic, disGRACEful behaviour. Okay I'm going.
