    Hello

    Whatho and welcome.
  2. "Its awe these extra posts we are having to read! " Indeed Iain, hope were not going to be examined with questions of who said what, where! I think I will call it a day there.
  3. Nice sentiment Alan and I certainly agree with you, I just love your typo - "fiends", so that's what you really think of us. I appreciate I am no one to talk, but I couldn't resist.
  4. Indeed, middlin, Grendel and Spider a very warm welcome on the good ship NBN. A note on Jason; we are looking to get new ropes for when we are on Moonlight Shadow, Jason offered to make them for free, Lisa, nicely declined saying something like he has a business to run not a charity. We will give him the order eventually. Just thought I'd mention that to you to give you an idea of the man himself. Yeay Jason!
  5. "P.S - It is so nice to be able to assist / discuss with forumites off topic of the Broads now and again" I said the same myself on a couple of occasions Griff. "The Lounge is the place for that and with Grace and others can end up other places also." I cannot imagine what you mean Iain, we never go off thread. "It is a shame but that appears to be the way the country is broken down. Like most other things it appears that everything 'stops at London' and the rest of the country is a poor relation!" We agree Sue and one particular irriation that sticks out runs along the lines of when Birmingham and Manchester were trying to get the Olympics, silence. When it is London going for the Olympics up pipes Lord Coe with "we must all get behind this".
  6. Hello, I'm back!! It is indeed a good deed that Mr Hand did well done him - I wish I could stop thinking, give him a big hand. Good luck with your decision MM.
  7. I saw two at least being built at Broom in July, possibly a third.
  8. This passed us (Moonlight Shadow) moored at Broom in July, in fact the helm pretended to throw a grenade in our direction and I had to retaliate of course with my AK47
  9. That is a shame, it is one of our favourite places to go, although we weren't able to go there in July.
  10. Thanks for that Matt, I will see what the other owners think, Mandy and Sue will probably read this, whadya think, ladies? You are right about the drafts, judicious use of towels and paper towels helps a bit, but it doesn't stop everything.
  11. "AS a child our house had one open fire in the front room and the rest of the house was left to find it's own level, scraping ice of the inside of bedroom windows to see outside was common,..." Hi Martin, I feel a Monty Python sketch coming 0n!! Thanks for the tip Howard, must remember to take a funnel and probably leave it on the boat. Cold can be a big problem for me, so keeping warm is a concern and I have been known to wear my old kayaking gear, if I look a proper Charlie at least I am warm one.
  12. Quite right Iain and I don't suggest anyone should sit there with a stop watch and I don't think I have ever gone through Gt Yarmouth exactly 90 minutes after low water, it is just a guide time. Anyroadup, totally off subject, do you remember the penultimate Indian wicket in their second innings of the last Test, where according to the commentator none of the English players realised the batsman was just short of making his ground. I always understood that if you don't appeal you don't get, unless your stumps are spreadeagled and it is blindly obvious, but with snicks, LBWs and concerns with the ball carrying you have to appeal. Hope all that makes sense. Sorry June, you are not that far away, you can metaphorically box my ears.
  13. "but at Gt Yarmouth it's nearer 1hr 30mins after Low Water." That is exactly the advice we were given on our second visit to the Broads from Ferry Marina when we said we were going south for the first time.
  14. Hi June, I print off a weeks worth of tide times from this site. http://www.norfolk-broads.org/tides/tide_report.asp?StartDate=23/08/2014&lines=7 I think it will be self explanatory when you get there. I forgot to print a copy for when we were last down there in July and felt like I was missing an arm, a very useful bit of kit!
  15. Good luck with it Tim, by the way what's wrong with chocolate fire guards?
  16. Nice tale, Eric. Glad the Cardhu and Cruiser made you happy. We spent a very pleasant Christmas in the Kingom about four years ago, very nice.
  17. Great Mandy, we follow you on, on the 27th. We did a Christmas, I think three years ago; Peter makes a good point regarding the warmth aspect and we take on a small electric heater. If you run the MS heater I am told it uses about one litre of diesel and hour, certainly puts up the fuel bill a good bit.
  18. Hi Polly/Dave, I went in to the Leicester University room and now they seem to be telling people that there was a Church of England in Richard's time and he wasn't a Catholic. I am not an academic but that is news to me and I believe Henry VIII died a Catholic although he broke with Rome of course. I wonder if it is one of these situations where the truth doesn't fit so we'll have to make a new truth; it never ends. The Richard III Society decided to stay out of the argument as to where Richard is buried, as a group, but it is interesting to see how the Richard III Society, without whom this discovery would not have been made, have been sidelined it would appear. The re-enactors were not happy, according to my niece at any rate, with their lot. Their camp was at the bottom of the hill, whilst some of their equipment was at the top and the arena for the pretend battles was sort of in the middle. One of the upshots of this was that public didn't go around the camp site; it is not just about the battles the re-enactors also like to engage with the public and be as authentic as possible with for example how people cooked and what they cooked in medieval times. Would be interesting to hear what that purchasing manager has to say. The weather held up pretty much, a bit chilly at times, but that might be just me. Managed to meet up with someone who wanted to borrow a couple of books so saving the postage. The RIII Society stall made £2,000 over the weekend, pretty good going I think. Thanks for the good wishes Dave hope your week goes well, hi Jen. Hi Pauline, the membership numbers went through the roof, I suspect many will be short term but I hope some of the younger ones hang around we could do with some youthful injections, in fact I could with a few myself. Now to trash my own thread. I saw a couple of programmes, I think on the Quest channel, last night called Classic Aeroplanes(not sure that is right) last night one was about a Buccaneer, which you flew John, a well thought of aircraft. One programme was about helicopters, and the Buccaneer shared the time with a dear old Victor, which I think I may like above a Vulcan - sacrilege I hear them say, infamy, infamy, they will all have it in for me, sorry old joke I know.
  19. That is one stunning display Iain, I don't necessarily know what all the colours are but it was very colourful nonetheless.
  20. Good evening each, Since this thread is about the BBMF I thought I would share this with you. Three years ago I applied to BBMF to see if they would they fly over Ranworth Island on 24th June 2011 (where has three years gone) below is their reply, which may help if someone wants to apply to the BBMF for a NBN event. "Norfolk Broads, 24 Jun 11 Thank you for your request for RAF Participation at the above event during the 2011 season. I regret to inform you that your application for RAF fixed-wing assets has been unsuccessful. The flying hours allocated within the RAF for display flying is limited, and every the number of requests far outstrips the resources available. We do look at all options to support as many events throughout the country as possible; this includes looking for operational aircraft on routine training sorties that may be in the vicinity. I do appreciate how disappointing the above information is, and if circumstances change, and we can support your event, we will be in touch; unfortunately, this is unlikely. With the vagaries of the climate, I hope you are fortunate with the weather and have a successful event. Should you be considering requesting RAF participation for an event in 2012 (2015 now) can I remind you that applications should be with the RAF Events Team by the end of September 2011" (now 2014) This is the address: RAF Events Team, Bentley Priory Building, RAF Northolt, West End Road, Ruislip, Middlesex HA4 6NG. Tel: 020 8833 8769 (95233 8769) Email: CER-SO3AirEventsTeams@mod.uk I also wrote to the Vulcan Team, but got no reply. Hope it helps, the G-HUEY team are based in Preston, I can go and have a chat with them if you are interested. That is about it for now.
  21. Eureka! I now realise why I couldn't use the emmots as Iain calls them. There is a square button top left of the reply panel and I must have inadvertently pressed it and basically switched off the whole panel.
  22. "No matter how carefully I read most of my forum posts, I nearly always seem to leave a typo or misspelling in, and then as soon as I hit "Post" it sits there laughing at me, plain as anything." Me too Strowager, I think my latest that I noticed eventually was howel for howl, a real howler!
  23. Thanks for that Iain, I'll shut down and reboot and see what that does if anything.
  24. That is a great piece of writing and very interesting Tim; you have my respect and admiration for managing to cope with all that. Like the others I hope you can get other trips on the Broads and I am to able to say a personal hello at some point in the future.
  25. I thought I would use this thread since management thinks I am a dinosaur with computers. I cannot seem to get the emmotions thingys to work, I suspect it may be my lappy at fault but any thoughts would be appreciated. I see your query about friends John, it took me awhile to realise what that number in the profile was. I don't do Facebook or Twitter, in fact this is the only forum I read and write to.
