  1. One of these pulled up next to me at Neatishead a few weeks ago, quiet it was not! I don't understand why they have spent so much money on a new boat and expensive hybrid system, batteries etc only to skimp on the genset. It was creeping into the moorings with the genset running at 1800rpm through what sounded like an un silenced exhaust - bit like a Connoisseur exhaust !! I know you can get gensets that are virtually silent, so why not use one?
  2. Nice photos and tale. Sorry, were the domestic batteries flat after 4 hours of running the engine?
  3. Griff, do you have trouble with your screens misting up during a night nav? Had my canopy down and the screens were misting up on the outside, luckily I can stand up to see where I'm going! Was going to try one of those antifogging sprays but wondered if you'd experienced it?
  4. Exhaust after treatment already exists in the Marine Commercial and superyacht world, as you'd expect it's expensive and takes up a lot of space. The exhaust is dry with either keel cooling or the cooling water injected after the catalytic converter. It applies to new builds and re-power although you can apply for an exemption for some re-powers where it physically cannot be installed. The picture shows the AdBlue tanks and pump behind the engine, the huge dustbin is the catalytic converter. This version is keeled cooled, seawater cooled would have water injection near the end. The new RCD 3 regs I mentioned above were rumored to include this system on smaller and leisure vessels, we think they have been delayed due to development time and costs being prohibitive. Electric has been discussed before, the tech is getting there but there's a huge, huge gap in re-charging infrastructure which I cannot see being resolved anytime soon. Huge costs to equip remote moorings with high capacity chargers and then policing the moorings etc - I just don't see it happening for decades.
  5. The build and materials looks very similar to a range of boats fitted out by Chessman Rollo near Staines in the early 80's, most were sold to a company called Eurocruisers who went bust in the mid 80's. Some ended up with Maidboats / Benson Pleasurecraft, Kris Cruisers / King Line had about 5 if I recall correctly.
  6. Not yet, although it is on the agenda. RCD 3 has been delayed to at least 2030 and this will only affect new builds.
  7. Just cruising through Irstead now after my trip to Warwick and back, nice to get over 40mph. On the A11, not through Irstead!! I wonder why they did not replace the tarmac over one of the bridges though?
  8. I got caught in an overnight closure diversion a few months ago. They should mark the diversion signs with A11 north or south as the routes crossed. I did at least 1 circuit and I saw a few others do the same!! Driving the kids home today which is usually 3 hours each way but I won’t linger to avoid the night closure.
  9. Excellent news, now how’s that boat coming along?
  10. Had that for 10 years! As Vaughan said the trial runs often made up for it. No booze for us but if there was an attractive crew spotted there was often an unseemly dash to ask them if they were ready for their trial run!!
  11. Just reading the above few pii oh sta and nodding in agreement. Pop over to Facebook and the 1st post I see is the following! Had a lovely holiday on board the fair chancellor. Couldn’t fault the service from NBD or the boat. Unfortunately though we won’t return to the broads and decided to go on a canal boat again next time due to the lack of public moorings. It seems 90% are private and spaces at public ones are few and fair between. 7 hours it took us one day looking ..ended up just mooring the last night at the boat yard as we went to potter , then Ludham bridge, ranworth , horning, salhouse and there wasn’t a single space at any of them. It’s a real shame most seem to be private. Canal boat was much better for mooring to visit towns and pubs etc. It was just too frustrating for us and spoiled the last day of our holiday, we were hungry and bored by the time we eventually got off the boat with two moaning kids 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️
  12. Martham still have the yacht Zoe for hire, built 1897. J Loynes had Golden Plover for hire right up to when Faircraft took over. According to the database built in 1915 and last seen 2019 so is probably still here somewhere. http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki2018/index.php?title=Boat_Details&BoatId=2744&BoatHistory=3907
  13. The contraflow was removed sometime last week, just a sea of cones and single lanes in each direction. Don't get too excited though as Thickthorn roundabout is being re-vamped soon. https://nationalhighways.co.uk/our-roads/east/a47-thickthorn-junction/

    Boat Search

The Barnes / Ex Moores one has been on the market for a couple of years now...... I would say it's a tad overpriced!
  15. You could try Calder designs in Stalham high street, no specific mention of pennants but I believe they can handle one offs and requests. https://www.calderdesigns.com/

    Boat Ids

1st one looks similar to Nimbus but it’s not quite the same. Making moulds is quite expensive so “one off” grp boats are quite rare.

    Santa Baby

Think thats maybe on the “other” forum. It’s in the downloads section accessed near the bottom of the page

    Boat Fire

I'd forgotten all about that fire Vaughan! Now that you mention it I seem to remember the shaver sockets used to get quite warm when in use. Mines an ex hire boat and the battery wiring was not great so has been replaced. No shaver sockets fitted and the inverter / charger is already placed very close to a hull vent.
  19. We used to try and position the throttle lever like this when I worked on a fleet, restricted top speed but still had full reverse! Unscrewing the **** gave a little extra or just carry a set of allen keys to move the lever, which of course is not recommended and something I've never done.... We hired San Francisco one year and it struggled to reach 6mph with no tide, yet Fair Sovereign went like a rocket!
  20. As the boat is new to you I’d service the engines and if the tanks have drain valves on the bottom check for water / crud in the tanks. Then fill both tanks up, they’ll be more than enough fuel for Wayford to Brundall plus the weight of full tanks will help with headroom at Ludham. You could also refill with fuel in Brundall and this would give an indication of fuel consumption for the future.
  21. I think Richardsons do actually restrict their engines a little to reduce speeding hence the underpowered feeling. Some yards do and some don’t.

    My Day

Think Baileys closed when I was about 10, my sister used to go a lot and they used to have lots of top acts. It then went through several names, Paradise Lost which had a waterfall, Kudos, Destiny and then I got old!!

    My Day

Almost my old stomping ground as I was born just down the road from St Albans, in Bushey. Although I was more Batchwood Hall nightclub than the Cathedral !
  24. I have one of these on my domestic battery bank - https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Datasheet-BMV-700-series-EN.pdf There are a couple of versions available and I've not seen less than 80% and that was after a cold night in March. My batteries were brand new then, 4 x 135ah.
