  1. Pic of her in happier days:
  2. Worrying. I've just returned from a fortnight on the Llangollen and Montgomery canals, our first canal holiday since we sold our share in Winding Down in 2014 after many years of canal boating since 1984. Quite a few of the bridges definitely needed renovation work and a couple had large cracks in the brickwork - one in particular where the arch was coming away from its surrounds. The C&RT has repaired the banking under one bridge we passed, not with the original coping stones, but with what appeared to be a length of wood* about five foot long of similar cross-section of a balance beam, which will probably stop the bank from falling into the canal but is not in keeping with the rest of the bridge and as it was set back from, and didn't follow the natural curve of the remaining coping stones, would probably be susceptible to further damage caused by boats hitting it. If the funding is to be slashed i think the future for the canal network is bleak. * I don't think it was concrete as it was too smooth.
  3. The year before they were Brundall Station Boats, then for 1992 they added II to their name . . . I wonder why!
  4. The boatyard that did/does pumpouts on the right going downstream past Yarmouth YS used to have a couple of boats for hire. Think they may have been called Crusader Craft?
  5. On the right as the river bends leaving Stokesby. They had older wooden boats, some of which were moored against the reeds on the other bank. I can remember one being sunk.
  6. I remember a company there who had a couple of small fibreglass cruisers - would that have been Johnson's?
  7. Lorna cruisers at Martham Zorisaan Marine at Stokesby
  8. Think Perrapin was a Broom build. Lovely looking boat. Think it was moored under covers downstream from Coldham Pub. Possibly went to the Thames from there.
  9. I did jury service when I was 29. Second day I was one of the first 12 called. The defence rejected me and some of the others. I was glad not to be on that case as it was a traveller accused of killing another traveller. I was selected for a case later in the week: a woman accused of throwing a yam through a greengrocers window - how that ever got to Crown Court I'll never know. I was called again when I was about 55 when I was self-employed and had booked a holiday on the date of service. I pleaded my case and offered to serve at a later date, which to my surprise they accepted. I had a third call when I was 68 but a couple of days later received another letter cancelling the first letter.
  10. Hi Robin, this doesn't work with Android 12. Do you know if there is a later version please?
  11. If I close the window and then reopen it, it asks me to log in but when I then click on an item it shows me logged in.
  12. I've lived in Manchester all my life and am lucky that my parents (usually with extended family) took me to Cornwall in the early 60s and I have been going back regularly since. This post made me realise that I haven't been for about four years so will look at going for a couple of weeks next year. I love all of Cornwall (and Devon) but St Ives is probably my favourite; I've been to St Ives in May, June, August and September and even January and February - in both of the latter I have had days when I could walk around in a light jacket. It's too far for me to drive these days (as I head for 80) so last time we broke our journey down, at a lovely Premier Inn (called Bristol Sidcot) at Winscombe on the A38, inland from Weston-Super-Mare. There are plenty of similar hotels north of Bristol for the return journey.
  13. Sunny all day (and the last few days) in Manchester. Forecast is the same for the next week.
  14. ps. ignore the arrow in the centre of the pic . . .
  15. As usual Vaughan is spot on. There are three hanger type buildings in the background of the original photo (top centre). Attached pic from that era shows those buildings (arrowed).
  16. My nine-year-old granddaughter texted me: "did you get the warning granddad?" Me: "Yes, I did" Granddaughter: "I didn't get mine until 3.15 - I could be dead !"
  17. Know exactly what you mean Wussername. I had to give up Broads boating a few years ago after 60 years because of balance issues. My grandchildren came along quite late in life and its only now that a couple of them are old enough to help with boating. Can't realistically risk being on a river, so this year we have booked a narrowboat for a couple of weeks. Getting on and off the boat on a canal is usually on the level so much safer and we will have a couple of young teens to help with the locks etc. We are really looking forward to a leisurely two weeks on the Llangollen and Montgomery Canals in July.
  18. Possibly a time limit on Free Parking Hylander. Our local Morrisons has always been two hours but they have just dropped it to one and a half hours, with a phone number for who to pay if you want to stay longer.
  19. Did the Avon Ring on a narrowboat some years ago and stayed overnight in Tewkesbury. Lovely town - your pics brought back memories.
  20. Fast Light Intercity and Regional Train
  21. This was our allocated overnight mooring . . . It was pre-Tingdene though.
  22. Is the Hermitage still open? It was when I last walked from the bridge to Acle in 1963.
  23. That one has been there for quite a few years. I saw it when out on a picnic boat in April 2014.
  24. Yes on the village green just near the Swan . . . but you'll be lucky to get a mooring there especially in the main boating season.
