  1. Those party to the problem can take as much expensive Queen's Council as they like, but the legal position will be an academic exercise (which we see alot of these days ie was the Iraq War legal etc. etc.) However as I have said before you will not see the situation of Dept for Transport Vs Dept for Environment. I think a more viable argument would be to concentrate on Reedham Bridge improvements that would give boats access to the sea and Bure and forget Somerleyton. Boats based at Oulton and WRC would make their exit at lowestoft and a short sea passage between there and Yarmouth and visa versa is no hardship.
  2. I think you would get very good odds on that. Close a railway to satisfy a few boat owners and a brokerage/maintenance facility? Brooms have stopped production and I would think limited airdraft could aid their long term ambitions for their site. Closing a line in this day and age would be unthinkable. I could see it being made into a modern tramway type railway that maybe might not need such expensive bridges.
  3. Alcohol has played a part in some appalling incidents in recent years. Not being an offence as such it gets little reporting space, not like if a car was involved then headline would be along the lines of "Twice the Legal Limit"
  4. I have lost complete understanding on this forum what you can and can't do. I think you are correct. How much it effects the local ecomomy could be veiwed as somewhat subjective as moorings would soon be filled with boats that can pass under the bridges. I can however see NYA concern, many of the boats on their books are available for PX. Which means they must be financing and paying interest on them. They really do need to be able to get out, sell them. Given the sort of money involved in that class of boats they probably have legal charges against their stock by their bankers and prospects will not wish to go as far as Reedham and back when committing to that type of investment.
  5. There is a thread elsewhere that is interesting. Perhaps it would be possible for the member who has produced the report from BA could post it here as well.
  6. I agree, should be left to the song of the paddle.
  7. I had a shooting discipline deleted from Griff's game shooting thread. I had no idea why until I saw the word in an Urban American Dictionary. Certainly I have never heard of it over here as obscene.
  8. This is her preparing for her role in Swallows and Amazons. It really does help if your parental home in The Cotswolds has it's own lake.
  9. This is the trailer put together for Sophie Neville's book. I think it is insight into film making 44 years ago https://www.imdb.com/videoplayer/vi3400510489
  10. Sophie Neville's " The Secrets of Filming Swallows and Amazons" is an interesting read. Published in 2011 it is available on Kindle.
  11. I recently watched "A walk in the woods" . Very disappointing and nothing like Bill Bryson's excellent book. Have to say it was unusual because Robert Redford is a stickler to keeping to the story as written. His version of "The Great Gatsby" is a true likeness to F. Scott Fitzgerald's work.
  12. A caffetiere is what I use in a morning and Taylors Rich Italian. If you buy ready ground coffee it will be fresh when you open it because the bags are flushed with inert gas, however once opened it is essential to seal the packet as best you can and most importantly refridgerate it.
  13. Thanks to both for the links. There are works that are so much better in Audio Format. I suppose most famous of which is Dylan Thomas "Under Milk Wood" which is nearly impossible to appreciate if just read.
  14. I tend to agree if that is the case. No need to make reference however slight to the fact that he was monitored by MI5 from the end of WW1 to 1937 and was considered by some to be a double agent. Perhaps there was a feeling of great unease after the author of one of the greatest sailing stories " Riddle of the Sands" Erskine Childers ended his life in front of a firing even after an exemplary previous military career. A bit heavy but "Six weeks in Russia - 1919" is a Ransome worth reading.
  15. And there is me having just washed my Nancy Blackett Trust polo shirt especially for the viewing. Bah!!!
  16. Will be screened on BBC1 at 17.05 on Sunday 19th August.
  17. Very high tides this morning on the North Coast. We are a couple of hors before Yarmouth.
  18. It is the same in Australia, unusual for a country that mirrors the US in some ways tipping is frowned upon. Whatever job you are doing they pride themselves on paying well, and tipping is saying that you are working for an employer who does not pay a fair rate for the job.
  19. Why do a hire yard sell a boat? A need to keep up with fashion and style of craft? Or have they become uneconomic to maintain for continous use during the season? A question, because I don't know.
  20. I must have misunderstood your intentions Robin for which I am sorry. With your purchase of the Trader I assumed that you wished to go, if not bluewater then overseas. I have done a fair bit of passage making and in common with most deep water sailors accommodation is not high priority. The Haines 32, to me is a great compromise between comfort and seaworthyness. That said I would always prefer a mast and sail for true cruising but at my age now would lean towards a good motor sailer. I think that there was none better than the Fisher range, unfortunately beyond my reach when I was a serious passage maker. And now that I could afford something very capable beyond my physical capabilities.
  21. It was a general comment not aimed at this thread or any particular establishment. I am just making an observation that reviews of any business are subjective and probably an area best avoided on this type of forum. Purely my opinion.
  22. Dining, restaurant experience etc is very subjective. More so than probably Hire Yards. If bad reviews of hire boats and yards are not allowed, then I think the same should be applied to Pubs, Restaurants and chippies. What is the official view of this, please?
  23. I went to some sort of coracle regatta at Ironbridge years ago and after a couple of Herefords best apple juice it seemed like a good idea! I had only gone 10ft from the bank when it tipped me in. How folk made a living salmon fishing from them? Must have had a very hightened sense of balance.
  24. Have you been in one? I had a big issue with one tipping me in.
  25. Waitrose Mexican Lime is up to Rose's standard imo.
