  1. Triumph Spitfire! Triumph Herald! Austin Healy Sprite! Morris Minor/1000 like a room at The London Hilton. My father bought my mother a Morris 1000000 for a birthday present, wish I had it now. Judith at the wheel of our Spitfire so must have been down the pub! Sprite in Southern Spain and god only knows how! we were camping. Morris 1000000 were only available in this colour. My God we were just kids really, and we were engaged, but it lasted 50 years. Our prefered route into Franco's Spain and yes that road is 6300ft above sea level.9

    Lunar Eclipse

These were taken from the balcony of my youngest son's appartment in Craysfoot, Melbourne. Unfortunately he only moved in a couple of weeks ago and can't at present find his tripod.
  4. I reminded of Andy Warhol's famous words re:- "15 minutes of fame" ! The awful truth behind social media is the "Walter Mitty syndrome" the poor Clerk can be a CEO, a Surgeon, Fighter Pilot, or top lawyer. You can re-invent yourself, but it aint real. And this is where I believe it all goes so wrong. Those that are so pugnatious are most likely timid creatures who would run a mile if you said "Boo". Face to face. I find the misuse of social media very worrying, which is well documented and people who hide behind an internet persona are very vunerable. Both this forum and the other were used just a few years ago to swing the voting in Classic Boat's restoration competition which was designed to allow readers to chose their favourite. Maybe this was the first vote rigging by social media as votes were solicited and found just because it was "Broads" even though the origins of the vessel were nothing to do with this area. I know that Dan Huston was shocked and upset when he was Editor, that something designed and intended to be a serious survey of readers opinions was interfered with not only in this case, but others, by soliciting votes on forums, Facebook, Twitter and the like.
  5. JFK. Was a very accomplished Star sailor. It is also said the real love of his life was Manitou a beautiful Sparkman and Stephens yawl. The yacht now restored to better than original is owned by a syndicate of keen Med Racers, she still has a beautiful hip bath installed said to have been used by Marilyn Monroe.
  6. I can't believe that it is a year ago that I posted pictures of everyone up to their knees in Mud at The Game Fair at Hatfield House. This year it was at Ragley Hall at Alcester NW of Stratford upon Avon. For the majority of the 60 years it has been going it was run by Country Landowners Association, now it is a commercial enterprise and I am afraid it shows. Once there was Gunmakers Row, with everything from top London makers to the importers of the very affordable. Game fishing was catered for in Fishermans Row again with Hardy, Orvis, Peeks through the spectrum to starter kits. Sadly The Game Fair has become just another "Lifestyle" show with hot tubs, garden furniture, bbq's, works of art, sculpture etc. I have not missed many Game Fairs since my father took me to my first in 1962, likewise I have taken or laterly been accompanied by my son (s). But we agreed that this will be our last. It is true that entrance is free to we members of BASC but once within the food and drink prices would not disgrace Fortnums or Claridges. It is very sad but I feel The Game Fair could well follow The London Boat Show having lost purpose. On a brighter note I did choose a new Wildfowling gun. 3.5in chamber Winchester SX4 semi-auto in "shadowgrass" which they will deliver to my local registered FA dealer.
  7. Spraying it might very well null and void it's guarantee so I would not rush the aesthetics.
  8. First weekend of the main school holiday season rainis a dead cert.
  9. When boating, caravanning and camping I have always worked on the principle get the very best you can afford. It is a lot easier to use inferior utensils at home than in the confines of a boat etc.
  10. Having built the Seawych through the "Summer of 76" it is now 1967, Jubilee year and it was an awful summer but we were sailing. Our Seagull engine power can be seen over my left shoulder. I must go against the trend and say my engine bought new from J. G. Meakes at Marlow was unbelievably reliable, always starting first or second pull. These newer engines from mid 70s onward could be re-jetted to take a 25:1 mix instead of the 10:1 and I think it really helped. I always when leaving the boat turned off the fuel and let it run dry. I remember being becalmed as we left Yarmouth I.O.W. and motoring all the way back to Poole. Although I had the bigger tank on my engine as opposed to the little oval one we had to re-fuel at sea twice which was interesting.
  11. Then I am def. Going to have a go. Never been through Bishops Bridge
  12. The last two days there has been a very pleasant breeze to moderate the temperature here on the coast. I walked from Mundesley to Bacton today very nice. Not been for a few weeks and a large cliff slip has occured that I have not seen before. It could be a problem after so much dry when the rains come. 10 minutes away from the RNLI lifeguards and you are on your own.
  13. Out of high season I will give one a go up to the yacht Station, it has been a few years since I went by water. Good luck, you should do well.
  14. I had a new canopy and berth cushions after the mice got at mine (3 years old) and the service was excellent. I am not sure however if the Sailmakers and Trimmers are one and the same. Jeckells sails have a very good name and are the OEM to some well respected boat builders.
  15. You are probably correct. Up here where I live the low point is the canal, we have no mains drainage so the soak-a-ways from our septic tanks will eventually end up in The Ant. That is without the Agro-runoffs.
  16. Lucky I feel. The last time I looked it up Stalham Sewage Treatment Works was discharging at 601 litres per second and it had a consent max of 761 litres per second into The Ant, so best not to drink it neat or add to Scotch.
  17. Many ducks particularly Mallard will hybrid happily. There have been efforts over the years to eradicate incomers because of this. In The Lakes the Carolina or North American Wood Duck was introduced and bred like mad with the local Mallard and more recently there was a nationwide cull of Ruddy Ducks.
  18. But in the end one Government department cannot take another to court so it has to be by representation and negotiation and agreement.
  19. You live and learn. The 1200 super that I taked about was not a 105E it was a 123E.
  20. As I said previously Network Rail is part of the Department of Transport. All you can really do is make representation and the best way is probably by the BA who are part of the Department for the Environment. With Public sector workers getting a decent increase, the uncertain economic future brought about by Brexit etc. These departments will get the sqeeze. I am afraid I agree with EastCoastIPA above. The inconvenience to a few boaters, is I would suggest, going to get a low priority sticker.
  21. To return to things marine, I remember quite a lot of Ford Watermota engines were mated to Enfield Zdrives and fitted to various grp narrow beam, centre cockpit cruisers of various marques. There were loads of them moored along the tow path at Rickmansworth. I suppose they offered a much cheaper alternative to a traditional steel narrow boat.
  22. Fantastic at traffic lights on red though.
  23. Here is the Popular based on the 100E as someone stated very short run from 59 to 62 as the cut back rear window of the new Anglia and Classic were not to everyones taste.
  24. Did you take it up to "The Cat and Fiddle" ?
  25. I think the the run on of the 100E/107E also brought about a name change. The 100E was available as an Anglia or higher spec Prefect. These names were dropped and the name Poplar re-introduced.
