  1. Jeep were Chrysler, not GM, who after being dumped by their last owners Daimler Benz are now owned by Fiat. The new Jeep Renegade is a Fiat 500X with a biscuit tin body. Some Chrysler compacts are sold as Lancia in Italy and other countries.
  2. There is a business in Rayleigh that specialise in US pickups. But they must be about 130 miles away. They are called "Farm Fresh Speed Shop"
  3. The X one designs are a particular loss to the solent.
  4. I wonder what Eastwoods make of it? Their fleet are not exactly shallow draft.
  5. I don't really understand how this aids flood defense unless the staithe is reconstructed. Surely the water would just overtop there.
  6. Cockwells 33 (or any Of their Duchy range) for me. Not cheap though.
  7. The stark truth of speed limits is thus: When a pedestrian (for that read road workman) is hit at 30mph 9 out of ten, though badly injured survive, at 40mph 9 out of ten die. Speed limits are not put there for fun and should be respected. If you choose to think you know better, then, you deserve to get hammered. I doubt very much that it is a funding opportunity, more a deliberately planned programme to make the sites safe for all.
  8. I found my Dunhill Rollagas in the back of my security cabinet a few weeks ago. What I could not believe is it lit! I have not smoked for twenty years. Apparently on recovery of Donald Campbell's body in 2001 his Dunhill was still in the breast pocket of his blue overalls. After a flush and dry out, a new flint and a refill it worked. A testament to quality workmanship. Mine was made in Switzerland, not sure if they all were. To my regret I lost a very nice Mont Blanc pen so now use a Parker mostly but my best pen is a Cross.
  9. You also need to look at the keels just in case she has been kept on a hard bottom drying mooring. Taking hard ground twice a day has caused stress cracks on some boats. Having said that Westies were really strongly built and have in most cases stood the test of time. If you love the boat I would not bother about the speed she goes about. One thing about the Westerly was they were fitted with decent engines not underpowered auxillaries so when you want to make up time on the river just motor. It is what you would be doing anyway! But on Barton, Hickling etc away you go under sail. A good spray hood and a tiller extension and you can keep out of most of the weather plus you can keep the hatch and companion way open. Go for it. I have left my intended return to sail too late, do it while you can, you can return to power when the years catch up with you.
  10. Queens Velvet was my favourite.
  11. The cost of good quality writing paper (that is not like blotting paper when used with a fountain pen) is also high. I hade not bought any for ages but recently did from Jarrolds. One pad of 50 sheets and envelopes was not far off £20.
  12. I believe his operation is based from his workshop in Outwell.
  13. He is a Fen man as above not on the Broads. I have seen Fyke nets being shot on Barton and on the river at Horning. You have to be up early to see the activity though.
  14. According to the Lobster fishermen of New England if just one virgin "pee's" in the bilge that is enough to ward off any problems with a name change. Not sure of the difference twix a USA one and a UK one.
  15. It will also provide a wonderful opportunity for infill of all the green bits in between. Lots more lovely housing estates that all look exactly the same. Wroxham, and all the villages on the south bank of the Bure will become effectively suburbs of Norwich. Of course every cloud has a silver lining and as long as no more bridges are built over the Bure it will protect the villages up here in the NE corner as the only decent crossing is Acle. The road works will be a right pain though for trips into Norwich as the new road cuts across the main roads that radiate from the inner ring road.
  16. Horizon and Richardsons are really one surely!
  17. I agree with Marshman re Waxham Cut. The risk of hitting and opening up more Iron Oxyhyroxide is so high that I doubt it would be dredged.
  18. I would ask (given their penchant for once only batch production of, especially electronic components) what is their commitment, in years, for supply of all spare parts. It is not worth saving money on a fixed unit like heating to be ripping it out a couple of years later because a part is unavailable. Before I retired we had a spate of electronic failures in a variety of main control unit boards. Because they were situated offshore protecting gas turbines on rigs it was extremely serious. After many weeks investigation in the UK, Switzerland and China and at huge cost to the company the faults were traced to the programmables. It was found that the handling of both eprom and ram was the cause because our detailed instructions stated anti-static protection must be used at all times. The factory chose to ignore the need for anti-static mats and earthed wrist bands and were spiking a proportion of the chips. We returned to getting the job done in Taiwan which was more expensive per unit but the on costs of all the failures was horrendous.
  19. I can see "Winter Afloat" insurance becoming a problem there. Like some coastal moorings. Unless you agree to an exorbitant excess or premium.
  20. It must have been the picture I saw earlier then, somewhere. My apology.
  21. That story was in the paper some weeks back, wasn't it?
  22. I think you will find that it is the land owner who ends up having to deal with fly tipping on the river bank, no wonder both wild and formal moorings go. Not to mention fires and abandoned bar-b-que rubbish.
  23. I was told only this week that a lady from our village had moved to " Poorarm" it took quite a bit for the penny to drop. : Potter Heigham.
  24. Small Sunseekers at Southampton, the big ones were afloat.
  25. Boy! Does that bring back memories. Got to know Rodney Pattison well during my time at Cobbs Quay in the mid 70s. Great bloke who could sail anything could even make my little bilge keel Sea Wych go like a train in the harbour.
