  1. it was parking eye that got a whole bunch of us from work at holiday inn when we were doing some training, the tablet we were supposed to use to register our cars wasnt available, so we all filled out the paper forms, and we can only surmise that one sheet wasnt handed in (or input into the computer) either way we collectively appealed at the same time and got it squashed.
  2. besides that - its above potter bridge, so just how many boats are doing the churning, must be all Maurice Mynah's fault then
  3. well as long as he can make it a national park car park, he can put the prices up
  4. before I go hunting for it to read, does it class secondary smoking as existing alongside active smokers, or going into the area maybe hours or days later?
  5. I hire from Martham boats, they dont even have rev counters, so its find a setting where the engine sounds happy, I might even consider a gps app on my tablet, I do have an external gps antenna for it that increases the accuracy a fair bit.
  6. just plan your trip, start from beccles on a rising tide, then head back on the dropping tide, at worst you may have to hang around to get clearance.
  7. I am lucky, this year we got the full bonus (hit all our targets), last year we had done this in the first 6 months so they gave us a new set, we earned 185% of the bonus amount last year.
  8. they have the bonus of starting above potter heigham bridge, in that area most boats can only visit occasionally, last year I booked Jayne but was upgraded to Janet 3 a larger centre cockpit boat, she was easy to handle solo, yet to find out how easy Jayne is, as she is a forward steer boat with rear entry / exit, so a bit more forwarrd planning reqiured I think. (laying out of ropes along the side decks ready for mooring.)
  9. some yards wont accept solo hirers, Martham boats do, though I dont believe that any of their traditional wooden boats has bow thrusters, the best bet is to phone round the yards to see if they will accept a solo hirer first, then make a decision. I too am a solo hirer, and love the older wooden boats, so for me Martham boats are great, I have Marthams Jayne booked out twice this year. once for the forum meet in may and second time to attend the wooden boat show at beccles in August.
  10. you persuaded me, jayne now booked for the wooden boat meet week. thats this years bonus spent now.
  11. the answer is can I afford it? lets wait and see what my bonus can afford this year.
  12. I have booked two weeks holiday this year so far, the week for the meet in may when I have Jayne booked, and the week in october for lads week.now do I book another week for the beccles wooden boat show, with another wooden boat from Martham?
  13. there is always one silly thing that you forget, or dont know, like remembering to push the gas tap in to light it or any of a number of other little things you should know, but forget int he heat of the moment.
  14. on that stretch I would think the amazing part was managing to actually get up to 50mph. the ones that annoy me are the drivers that think it is acceptable to drive in the third lane out (out of 4) on the motorway and doing 50mph, technically you cant undertake them, and the traffic is all backed up trying to use the one lane to pass them, I have been known in this situation to move into the slow lane (lane 1) and undertake two lanes away (at least avoiding any irrational sudden lane changes on their part. I believe it is driving like this that the new minimum speed laws are set to catch. I suppose that is a better reaction than driving almost level in the slow lane, moving out to lane 4, overtaking and then pulling back to the slow lane obviously in front of them.
  15. also clear instructions for those in the two lanes you are joining. there are no fewer than 5 sets of slow commands on those lanes before the two slips combine
  16. yes streetview shows the overhead gantry and the M11 sign, this is the start of the M11 here, and from the other slip lane too.
  17. while I wouldnt particularly see health implications, the lingering traces of the smell would certainly be unpleasant, that was one of the reasons I did not frequent pubs in my youth, the smell of stale tobacco.
  18. it could be that you have an air leak into the system, that is dropping the pressure at the tap end.
  19. I can only agree with that, riding a motorbike you learn to read the hazards, not just from the car ahead, but for maybe the next 10 or more cars ahead, and the road surface, drain covers etc, and junctions, up to as far as you can see.
  20. sort of impossible sometimes on the M25 when you are the filling in a 4 way lorry sandwich, one in front - one behind and one each side, though to be fair the one behind will be so close that the ones at the side wont think of pulling over. I reckon I see two or three lorry + car accident aftermaths a week around the M25 dartford tunnel, I have also seen a lorry pull straight over into the back end of a car right in front of me. but then I am also ready to hit the brakes and drop back if necessary.
  21. Ah a wonderful trip to work this morning-----NOT, M25 Dartford crossing- bridge shut due to high winds, so southbound traffic using the east tunnel, 17 miles of tailbacks from the tunnel down the A2, I hit the back end at rochester at 6.30 am, from there it took me 2 hours to get to the slip road to the M25 - I didnt get out of first gear at all. on the slip road it took a further 30 minutes to make the next 30 yards, and it would still have been an hour to the tunnel, except joy of joys, they re-opened the bridge, so at 9am the traffic started moving again, 3 1/2 hours to do the 61 miles to work. during that trip, I saw some horrendous driving, articulated lorries cutting across 3 lanes at right angles to the traffic flow, cars zipping in and out, lorries leaving it to the last few yards of sliproad to pull off the main carriageway, effectively parking in a lane empty in front of them until a big enough space was left for them to get in, or just sticking their nose in leaving the trailer blocking a lane (which by this point of the slip road the 3 lanes going past the junction had cars travelling at the limit, suddenly encountering this rear end of lorry blocking the lane. it was chaos, all due to inconsiderate drivers
  22. yes we had the same a week or so back, last time it was down for about 10 minutes.
