  1. I wonder if you got a coastal merchantman and sailed it straight at the bridge, whether they would somehow find that yes they could open it?
  2. I will let you know when I find the end :-)
  3. after that work I was considering how I would attach the handrails to the roof, I thought I had 2 choices, I can either turn up some stanchions from brass, or I could see if anywhere sold anything suitable. then I had a brainwave, after researching chrome paints I decided I would have a try at 3D printing some stanchions - now these are small parts - even for a 3d printer, I printed 36 overnight to get 25 good ones (total material cost about 50p), these will need cleaning up and painting with chrome effect paint, but I am happy with the result - I may have a try at turning one up on the lathe at the weekend - just to see if it can be done, so I am not 100% sure I will use these - yet. the pen in the picture is to give some idea of scale.
  4. and the remaining area to be planked continues to shrink, another plank shaped and steamed and clamped in place, just 2 more after this has been glued, and they wont need shaping or steaming
  5. well at last the postman delivered the rest of the hinges I ordered, these are truly scale, next to the piano hinges the look tiny, they would scale to about the size of an average door hinge - there are 20 hinges in each of those little packets.
  6. we tried an air conditioning unit once, took it back the same day, it was so noisy we couldnt hear the TV
  7. surely with that width of timber each panel can just be cut from a single plank
  8. I would have thought an acceptable solution would be to have a disabled mooring, which you could use, but would have to be prepared to double moor if a disabled person arrived, so they could be moored next to the bank. to me that is an acceptable way round it - much like the disabled seats on some trains where you are expected to relinquish the seat in favour of the disabled passenger.
  9. just occasionally an example has to be set, then it can be pointed out to others to show what can happen if things get too out of hand, this will hopefully knock some of this type of behaviour on the head for a while.
  10. another slow trip home in hot heat, with the aircon not working (needs regassing) and not a lot of progress on the models, just time to glue the plank on from shaping yesterday, it will be an early night tonight as the heat last night meant I woke at 4am this morning.
  11. Ah I have just remembered its British Rail - it must be the wrong kind of water.
  12. dont let Griff hear you saying that- he will of course insist Yorkshire is marginally better.
  13. me too a balmy 21 degrees in the office
  14. is there a forum discount, as I see a good sun protection product is a must for boating.
  15. Siddy I hate the same when people leave gaps that you might just fit a smart car into between each other when parking on the street space for 10 cars filled with 6 cars.
  16. I liked the Alien appearance at 4 minutes in
  17. today has been a bit warm, so work has progressed slowly, the next set of planks have been sanded up (it was 33 degrees in the conservatory where I did that) the house has now risen to 30.6 degrees. but despite this a plank was shaped and steamed and clamped into place - just 3 more to go after this one.
  18. currently 30.2 indoors outside temp is reading 34.8 - all fans on
  19. and where to get this wonder product - with my blonde complexion I start at factor 50, and work upwards through whitewash to boot polish.
  20. the hinges are only pinned in place at the moment in case I want to make them properly, I can then use the plywood ones as patterns, and reuse this set of hinges
  21. Its been sweltering indoors today, outside was worse, so progress was slow today, short bursts. Still one side is finished planking, the other has about 4 or 5 planks left to do. As well as that I have produced a blank for the windscreen the top edge still needs shaping, and the outer edges will need to be trimmed.
  22. Early start this morning, these last two top planks wont get any shaping, plus since we have got away from the sharp curves at the bow, they dont need steaming either, so on with the glue and onto the model, clamped in place. At present I am finishing this one side, then it will be the last 4 or 5 planks on the other side too. in between planks I will be concentrating on that windscreen, so far this part has been a bit of a nemesis for me, with several attempts, but I am determined to get a good finished result, preferably with a jointed frame, but I might go with a plywood frame if I have to.
