  1. I would think both Button and Massa must be sat there thinking "what the hell had just happened?"
  2. I think he's older than that MM. I seem to recall being told that Peter's first 'posts' regarding his concerns over the broads were on parchment!
  3. Agreed. As long as the hinge pivots are equidistant and the hinges themselves are parallel then it will work nicely. Its lovely to see Santa's Grotto so industrious as the big day approaches....
  4. There used to be a waiting list for those buoys...
  5. Wow, Mr Mynah offering seasons greetings?!!! Whatever next, the Pesky one out in his elf costume?
  6. Leaving the country is now considerably more expensive as well. maybe Brexit will help the hire boats more than we think.
  7. WARNING TURN OFF DEPTH SOUNDER BEFORE IT GETS STUCK IN THE MUD THE BROADS NATIONAL PARK (ONE DAY)
  8. Now that gives me an idea. Calling all comedians.... 2018 calendar - "Proposed signs for the Norfolk Broads"
  9. Surely that should say "Caution, Ramp Ahead, you are about to leave the Broads National Park"
  10. The boats are up for sale then they are not. Then it's all by tender sealed bid, then it's not. Then the boats are off to a brokers, then not. Then the yard is up for sale with the boats or maybe not, they can supposedly be bought separately. You could be forgiven for wondering whether anything is actually available to buy! Funny way to do business....
  11. You too! Did JCL ever fit any out themselves? lol
  12. Back in the day, to transport a boat by road required lots of forms filled in (in triplicate of course) and the police notified. All wide loads required a proper police escort and lots of waiting around as eash police force met the load as it crossed their area. Bridges were not as high either and it was always A11 rather than A12 when height was an issue going south out of Lowestoft. Then there were cranes to be met and paid for... Bearing all that in mind a quick trip out of Yarmouth and hug the coast down to Dover was the easy and cheap option. Follow a ferry across and job done!
  13. It's funny you should ask that coz I missed the final count before the voting thread was taken down as well... I believe there is a suggestion to put this year's winners on here but, sadly I don't personally have the skills to do it! Looking forward to seeing them though
  14. Yes, hard chine is a lot easier and it also allows for the below chine planking to run at an angle which means less twists along each board. To illustrate "here's one we did earlier" Of course, not relevant to Grendel's build but just as a point of interest. On the full size BA they may well have needed to hollow out the rear of the boards that run along the curve to get them to fit flat onto the ribs and then taken the corners off the face to give her that lovely smooth shape.
  15. A basic check would consist of can you still see the water line and is the meter still in credit! Joking apart, have just had to arrange a rapid lift out of a woodie. Checked it on Monday to find that it has sprung a leak and, whilst the bilge pump was coping at the minute, the inevitable would happen if we didn't act now. Our best guess is that she sustained damage when she sat on the bottom during Saturday's super low tide but the leak is under the water tank (of course) so out she will come. The point is that had I checked her last Friday she would have sunk by the time I was next there so yes, Mr Wildfuzz has a very good point.
  16. Have you ordered your calendar yet? And if not why not? Lol The time has come to get those last minute orders in place for your 2017 calendar. The pictures are chosen and everything goes off to the printers in the very near future with our final production requirements. Sadly these are available by advance order only so time is getting short. Just follow the link at the top of the page and you can have a beautiful reminder of the broads right in front of you to tick off the days until you are afloat again, and you've seen the pictures, it's going to be quite a reminder! So, come on folks, last chance to acquire such picturesque calendar for 2017. Just think, next year's could be 'Moderators Unmoderated'
  17. If it's an above ground pond the water will cool faster than an in ground pond so the fish will reduce their food intake sooner. Don't forget to leave a couple of footballs floating around when the Frost's come. These will move around and stop ice forming so easily. If you do get a layer of ice you'll need to make a hole through it so the water can still 'vent'. Use a saucepan of hot water stood on the ice to melt through, don't break the ice as the shock wave can damage some fish.
  18. I believe it's the third weekend in May. Around the 20th?
  19. Deffo start at the front. Once the front is in place you have the whole length of the plank to lever on. Start aft and you only have a couple of inches to try and get into place. Heres another shot or two of planking following hull shape if it helps
  20. That'd be more like a stampede than a wave!
  21. Or maybe keep it a secret and we will then wave at all the 'sheds' so as to not miss you?
  22. Would love to mark out a 'little' mooring at Beccles...
