  1. There is a posting on 22.4.15 on the other forum from R Hollocks of The Beauchamp pub. At that time he was looking to place a tenant in the pub or to sell it freehold so it looks like he is the owner of both pubs.
  2. We went to The Berney moorings last weekend and saw that the tables outside had been painted. It was obviously a rush job and the ground below the tables was covered in paint. We also noticed that the old building to the left of the pub had received some attention. The place has been on the market now for a long time - its possible that the owner is getting desperate to sell and has started to clean the place up to attract some buyers. It will need substantial funds to bring it up to a good standard.
  3. The Jabsco Aqua water filter is an efficient and cost effective water filter to have on a boat. Either fit it before the cold tap in the galley or for more protection to the fresh water supply line on the pressure side of the electric water pump.
  4. Its a good idea to have two methods of recovery for a person in the water. A life ring with a length of floating line should be carried on the boat for use in emergencies. Also consider a rope strop with a large eye spliced into one end so that a person in the water can put it over his head and then under his armpits. The total length of the strop needs to be about ten feet long so that persons on the boat can pull the person in the water to a suitable place where he can be lifted or pulled onto the boat or just held in position whilst the boat makes for the bank. 5. We have been watching the chicks in the nest at Norwich cathedral - good to hear that the chicks have flown lets hope they do well in the wild. Dave R........
  6. Eye marine at the Gunshed in Levington near Ipswich will be able to supply what you want. The rope is quality stuff at good prices. They have a website or if you live locally you can call in and buy what you need. They offer a splicing service as well. Dave R
  7. Thanks for the info on the vcl media player. It looks like you can add music from Cd's and dvd's to a library within the media player. Can you also burn from the media player onto a cd or dvd like you can in windows media player? Dave R.........................
  8. I see that windows 10 will not have windows media player on the operating system. Can anyone recommend a good alternative media player? Dave R
  9. The UPVC needs to be replaced with marine ply - 6mm would be fine. Once the roof has been finished completely in wood give the roof a coat of fibre glass resin all over and then apply and roll about 4 layers of 600 gram fibre glass matt over it- this will give a fibre glass sheafing of about 6mm onto the roof. The finish can either be painted after the GRP has cured well or you could coat it with a coloured flowcoat.
  10. On the Waveney there is The Waveney river centre with a self service pump out system that works well. On the Lower Waveney there is Goodchilds.
  11. I have known water to get into the bilges from the joint at the top of the hull where the superstructure is bolted and sealed to the hull. The joint is usually covered by a rubbing strip and water can get under it and find its way into the hull. Dave R..........
  12. Lancing Marine in Brighton will be able to help and at a reasonable price. 01273 410025. Dave R.............
  13. Lowestoft Haven Marina have one of the largest boat lifts but its rated at 70 ton. There are no boat lifts on the broads that I know of which are capable of lifting a boat of your weight. The nearest will possibly be in Yarmouth harbour where commercial boat lifts are available - Richards will be able to do the job, the cost will be high.
  14. Hi - good to have you onboard and welcome. Dave R..............
  15. It seems that the worse offenders are the hire craft they start their engines at about 7am in the morning and keep them running for a long time in order the heat the water up for the showers.
  16. The ice cream boat used to operate in the Brundall area and used to visit the marinas. We have bought from them before and have found them very good. All the ice creams come wrapped from a cold box on the boat. Dave R.
  17. Try boat moving solutions from Ipswich. Give chris a ring on 07917352528. He has done two jobs for me and his charges are very reasonable. He can self load so you don't need a crane and at the other end will load off the trailer or put the boat into the water down a slip. Dave R...........
  18. Wilks are a good firm and have been established for many years. Most of the leading boat builders buy from them and their products are good. If you need to replace a rubber strip in an existing fendering system then Walker rubber in Norwich will be able to help. Dave R....
  19. We have a Glomex Omni. Its used mainly on the southern broads and works perfectly and picks up all the channels.
  20. The donation boxes consist of something like 3" x 3" box section about 3 feet high. The cash goes in at the top and the end where the money goes is cemented into the ground. From memory the one at Somerleyton says "if you have enjoyed your visit here a donation would be appreciated to pay for the upkeep of the moorings (or similar wording) Dave R.........
  21. Donation box has been placed on the 24 hour moorings at Somerleyton. Dave R.......
  22. Two things you could try. 1. Loosen the clip and turn it half a turn on the hose and then retighten it. 2. Loosen the clip and take the hose off the fitting and cut the hose back by 1" and then refit the hose and tighten the clip - this normally cures the problem. Dave R
  23. D section 316 stainless is going to be very expensive. Is it necessary to have D section. Would something like stainless 316 25mm x 3mm flat do the job. You could drill it yourself and polish it yourself with something like a black and decker powerfile and then finish it off with brasso and a cloth. It wont be as good as mirror finished but will quite close to it. Try Anglia alloys in Gorlestone their prices are competitive and they can deliver if required.
  24. The demo was carried out in the dragons den with brand new fittings . I would estimate that the fittings were about half inch bsp. Not many boats have fittings that small and I would guess that the fittings on average range from 1" to 1.5" bsp. The dragons thought that the idea was good and decided to invest. They seem to have limited ability in deciding if the product is good and will sell or will not sell. I cannot see that any boater with experience would want to purchase this product. The dragons were hoodwinking into investing in a product that had a potential design defect. On paper the idea looks goods - in practice it will not work and will lead to boats flooding when attempting to unscrew the sea cock from the skin fitting. No experienced boater would risk using this product. Dave R.....
  25. The hire yards have only been antifouling the waterline for some time now. Our boat came out of the water this year after three years afloat. It had been antifouled with International Uno and after that length of time in the water the weed growing on the hull was minimal. Prior to antifouling three years ago the boat had over several years been antifouled and that antifouling had been over coated numerous times. I cant see any advantage in removing the old coats. The old coats are still working and are effectively preventing the build up on the hull of weed, Dave R.............
