  1. Thanks for putting me staight on this ..... as you probably realised I didn't view said footage. My appology also to bob48 as in this case if footage uploaded by the BBQ'ers then they can't complain if said footage is subjected to scrutiny.
  2. Whilst I appreciate that you didn't post the link I really do dislike this sort of sneaky filming and consequent blame game. Regarding BBQ's on boats some are designed for this to be OK unfortunately some people really do very unwise things. I witnessed a chap at St Olaves BBQ on the boat on top of his gas locker. ..... Before I could tie my boat up a chap from the boat yard opposite had hot footed across the bridge to share his thoughts with the skipper.
  3. Sorry MM but this stance makes me feel uncomfortable. Why single out these two individuals for their postings made elsewhere. The two forums are very different and the other one creates an environment where heated debate happens all to often. Also refering to topics posted on another forum here, is very confusing for those who do not visit that forum. Discussing "blackballing" potential new members like this suggests a very clique, closed forum which NBN definately is not. I feel if you had concerns regarding the content of posts made my individuals then you should have reported your concerns/reasons to admin visa PM.
  4. Ummmmm ,,,,, The "theres nowt wrong with diesel "ostriches"" fill me with glum thoughts!! We can of course choose to ignore the high percentage of expert thoughts on this subject but surely the win win case is the search for clean alternative fuels whilst discouraging the continued use/purchase of polluting vehicles. Oh yes and spare a thought for the familes living adjacent to the busy inter city roadways who have no way of avoiding letting their children inhale the toxic gases from outside their house.
  5. I have one but it is all but useless for backup. It is difficult to setup and when accessed via wifi it is sooooo slow, So I have reverted to external hard drive usb 3 for backup's. Could be the way I set it up BUT it is certainly not plug & play.
  6. This is just a shabby scam to up your "love point " tally!!!! tut tut
  7. Just woken up ............... I think i'll go back to sleep again Zzzzzzzz.
  8. OK. Thanks for looking into this. On reflection I can live without reading that particular thread but it could lead to the casual visitor mistrusing our site if they also receive this message.
  9. With the galloping advances in virtual reality I fear inactivity will increase as will the difficulties of extracting their carcasses from their homes.
  10. Hi Is there anything wrong with the above topic. 11. So called "Poppy" ........... I wear a wooly hat when it's cold to keep my bald, tattoed head warm. My legs are very hairy so wearing long trousers causes overly moist ankles even in Winter.
  12. I have never met or spoken to Mr Packman so my musings are based on the comments that have been posted and a desire to see the area in which I live marketed in the best way possible. If your understanding of his intentions are correct then I fully understand why you adopt your stance. But I also have never met you so it would be unwise of me to take your opinion as Gospel either. However I do applaud your persistance on this subject and I'm sure you & other like minded individuals have made more than a ripple in Mr Packman's pond.
  13. I believe it has been agreed that the Broads can market itself under the National Parks banner. It makes perfect sense to me to advertise the area under this banner, it is a short, meaningful message avoiding the ridiculous wordy alternative of "welcome to not quite a National Park". If it helps to promote the area and increase tourism then surely it is a good thing. That said I feel those that campaigned to have it registered that the Broads cannot be a full NP member due to the Sandford principal have done a very worthwhile service BUT let's enjoy the benefits of marketing under the National Parks banner.
  14. Looks like a really warm welcome to me ......... I like it.
  15. I'm not a great lover of the nanny state but ............... I would trust the imposed speed limit as an indicator of safe speed over the opinion of a "Jeremy Clarkson dovotee" behind the wheel of his very large p**is ... sorry car!
  16. I have hope .............. We need to use the tools that are used to reach and radicalise these weak minds to spread the seeds of doubt and question the poison with which they are being infected. I suspect, but don't know, that this is already taking place.
  17. Sadly there is a tiny core of extremists cradleing a vile phlosphy of hatred. They are cowards who hide behind their "sheep like" followers who are duped into carying out their warped ideaologies. I am grateful to our organisations that strive to keep us safe often risking their own lives. The murdering scum bags that commit these attrocities shouldn't be given the privelege of being named and memories of their lives should be confined to the garbage tip ..... along with their pathetic remains. My thoughts are with those affected by this latest attrocity and those commited world wide. People like to moan about our police force BUT they unfailingly step up onto the front line to protect us for which I am eternally grateful.
  18. Is it beyond the capability of technology to disable the sending/receiving of calls when a handheld device is moving? I am regularly in danger of being trampelled to death outside schools when the "time to escape" bell is sounded!!
  19. If I was to choose a boat for the Broads I would choose a bathtub because of the space available. Would I describe them "bathtubs" as beautifull? NO. If I go to the countryside I enjoy seeing the local wildlife be that birds, cows, sheep ot even women. If I go to the Broadland riverside I enjoy watching the ducks, swans & fish, Do I find the moored "bathtubs" attractive? NO. But if I was onboard I would fid the uninturrupted views of ducks etc as attractive. Planning! I want to hold my head in both hands and weep when the question of planning, or maybe anti planning, is mentioned within the Broads area. It seems the time of "common sence" has ended in favour of absurd restrictions supposedly designed to preserve the essence of broadland, whatever that is or was? I think there are many areas of the Broads that contribute to the Broads being what it is that would be erradicated from the face of Broadland if the current planners had their way. Maybe a little more grass and a lot less weed is the answer?
  20. Sigh. I think I said a non boater might find them an eyesore but maybe the words I wrote suggest otherwise? But as you have questioned my opinion let me share it. I am currently without boat but have always loved them. Although I prefer sail I would buy a bath tub if I wanted to spend a lot of time on the Broads .... something that I am currently uncertain that I want to do. However when I have been enjoying a pint by the riverside I occasionally find the line of motor boats strung out along the bank to be not a pleasant view ....... particularly at high tide. So I can see both sides of the debate.
  21. I think we should all accept that if we join in a debate (heated or otherwise) that some of our views will be picked out for critism. You mention the orthodoxy here ............. if you are refering to those that I think I have to say that I always found their arguments well constructed, thoughtout and polite. I may not always agree with their conclusion but have always welcomed their input to the discusssion ...... many of them appear to have considerably more knowledge than me. I try very hard not to single individuals out for critical comment but accept, in the heat of battle, I might inadvertantly do so. It would be a very dull world if we all thought the same way.
  22. It's only natural to defend your particular interest but please try to live and let live. Fisherman, boaters, ramblers, cyclists etc should all have the right to persue their particular passion. Even the boating community is divided between sail, motor & oar power and often fires vollies of derision at their opposing camps. I think we should all learn to tollerate the interest of others.
  23. Times change but I am a firm believer that more activities on the Broads should be welcomed so that a more diverse range of people can enjoy what was and still is a captivating environment. This forum is biased towards the boating activity of the Broads largely due to the high percentage of hires and boat owners who are members (nothing wrong with this providing people with other interests continue to be welcomed). It is understandable that people consider their interest to be the most important thing ever but it is fact that we are A National Park (member of the family of National parks but ignoring the naughty bits) so we can expect people other than boaters to be encouraged to visit us. A non-boater may well find nose to tail bath tubs a huge eyesore at the few publically accessible riverside facilities so maybe a more diverse view of what we are all about might help to protect the environment we all care about. By the way the Broads is a whole lot better now than it was circa 1970's IMHO.
  24. Beccles is in Suffolk so maybe people need to be reminded that if is on the Norfolk Broads.
