  1. Yep .... Cromer parking charges are outrageous. Makes popping in for a couple of hours far too expensive. On the plus side ..... there are always plenty of parking spaces.
  2. Tesco's has been in Beccles for several years now and arguably Beccles has improved much over this time. Probably because of the pedestrianisation of the road next to the King's head which makes the whole area seem more welcoming.
  3. Yep, this is my recent experience too. I've had to do a drive through and leave as there are no free spaces on at least a couple of occassions. I think 2 hours free parking might be an attractive compromise. In general a town like Beccles needs to attract visitors so free parking is essential for the local economy. Charging commuters for a parking space seems appropriate to me. RANT warning: I really object to the ticket machines that boldly announce "over payment accepted .... no change will be given"!! Particularly when fees are set in such a way that multiple denominations of coins are required to meet the exact fee.
  4. It is very sad that this forum is unable to discuss matters with a "BA" involvement without the very predictable, entrenched views. The result is that topics of importance get hi-jacked by the few.
  5. I suspect most broads sailing cruisers can navigate past the bridge as can rowing boats and day boats so I really can't see that there is a problem. Have you noticed that social media transforms opinions into facts?
  6. What I see is a modern take on the "bathtub" with a large outside lounge/driving area on the roof. The outside space is to me very appealing. I guess being an inland vessel it doesn't need the streamlining of a coastal boat. Is it ugly? yes but then so are many grp broads boats but I think the combination of below decks luxury and on top open air lounging will appeal to many hirers.
  7. If you want a proper job done .... ask a Suffolk man!
  8. Just to be clear, I have no problem with people claiming damages for injury or the companies that help them achieve this. My complaint is the practice of blanket calling random people "fishing" for cases for them to persue. It appears that the government also believes that this is a menace and is activelly trying to stop it. Let's hope it works.
  9. Whilst I have sympathy with your thought processes I think the "accident chasing" callers are conducting a type of "theft". They encourage people to make bogus claims which in turn leads to us all paying higher insurance premiums. It is difficult to have sympathy with a cold caller that spouts off "I believe you recently suffered an accident" which is blatently untrue and then tries to fish for any kind of accident you may have suffered from in the past. Strangely I had frequent such calls prior to my accident but mercysfully havn't had any since the event occured.
  10. Exactly ...... Preying on the vunerable is disgraceful. Not just the scammers do this there are quite a few "ligitate UK businesses" who provide aids for the elderly who quote extorionate prices up front. Many elderly folk will accept the first price as they think it too rude to haggle. BUT haggle and the price can be halved .... I know ...... this happened to my mum when she was in need of a stair lift. "What they do is wicked"!!
  11. You are quite correct and our planning system is designed to allow those with objections to make them known. I am not very familiar with this bit of Yarmouth but to me the development looks like it will improve the site whilst adding extra facilities for boaters which is a plus. I'm sure the planners will examine all the comments that have been officialy made and then come to a conclusion.. I think it a little unfair to brand the local objections as "moaners" as their observations are an important part of the planning process.
  12. Being inundated with pre-recorded telephone scam. You know the one ... "Your internet connection has been hacked .... We will disconnect your service within 24 hours" Why do they bother? Does anybody fall for this these days?
  13. I'm much more likely to keep quiet if I find a great place to eat ..... I don't want it spoilt by rif-raf!
  14. "snap" .... I broke my ankle 6 months ago. I now have 2 titanium screws in place. All on the mend now as I'm sure yours will be. Tell them you'll be hopping mad if you can't get to the wedding. All the best
  15. I don't do Facebook so I remain in blissful ignorance of going ons overthere ..... Long may it continue ...... please
  16. Thanks for taking the time to take and post those fabulous pictures it cheered me up no end. The discussions that followed were also facinating.
  17. I'm not at all sure that the NBN should be seen to condone the removal of the tape particularly as it is far from certain who put it there.
  18. I suspect you may be right ..... I guess they want to avoid it being stuck open at all costs.
  19. I've lived here for an awfully long time and the extreme heat events like we enjoyed this year have been rare .... although they do seem to be becoming the norm.
  20. Sometimes not naming the other forum gets silly. The NBF have the information freely available for all to view and it has been supplied by Mr Packman who seems to prefer to provide updates there.
  21. Is it just me? But I think there are areas such as this that should be left undisturbed by motor cruisers. It is a truly magical world when explored via dinghy by oar or electric outboard. But leave the motor cruiser in the deeper waters of Bargate and let the peace & quiet remain undisturbed ..... there really arn't many places left where you really can get away from the hubbub of modern life.
  22. I'm not really sure what words are no longer considered unacceptable or even why ..... I've even been modded here for using the word "fag" ...... referring to a ciggy ..... go figure.
  23. I like being given the choice. Sometimes the cash in my pocket is destined for a car park so unless I tip via card their would be no tip.
  24. The Waveney Hotel Beccles has a nice riverside patio and a conservatory with river views if the weather doesnt play ball.
  25. No .... that just makes you fussy. :)
