  1. Only time I've ever had a problem it's been solved very well, ran out of gas at Salhouse, poor engineer had to lug a gas bottle down to the broad from the car park, only to find that actually nobody had told us there was a changeover valve on the two bottles, I sent him on his way with enough for a couple of pints and a chip supper for him and his lad. Other thing, same trip, main circuit breakers tripped meaning no immersion heater or shore power, again if it had been explained at the handover, we wouldn't have needed help, but I didn't think to look behind the sofa!
  2. Literally no idea where the OSB for the cabin came from
  3. Will it go under Potter Heigham? actually attempting it may be an improvement...
  4. I definitely need to up my British Boat knowledge Clive! My father has a place in Italy and a passion for Italian cars and motorbikes so I've been submerged in Italian things for years hence my Riva obsession (and being a Bond fan) incidentally, however, The Bluebird boat on which Donald Campbell and Mr Woppels met their fate was constructed a matter of yards from my office...
  5. My mother is an Essex girl, Dad was a Notth Londoner, I was born in North Devon, spent the first 4 years of my life there, and then we all moved to Mid-Sussex, where I have been pretty much since, aside from a brief interlude on the Surrey/London border (Teddington/Kingston/Hampton Court area). Currently call a small village just north of the South Downs home, and beautiful it is...
  6. Wow she's a beauty, a touch of Riva about her (if that's not swearing?)
  7. I watched Top Gear being Filmed a few years back, was the most boring afternoon of my life, jokes that were funny on take one we're wearing a bit thin by the time we got into double figure takes...
  8. It doesn't look like one of there's does it, I really should pay more attention....
  9. That might well be Barnes themselves, today is changeover day, and it looks like one of their boats, wasn't there when I looked earlier this morning
  10. I have seen an example of this where a friends parents twin Perkins turbo (I believe it was a 79, the year before they went to Volvo Pentax's) Broom which had spent years on Thames at 5mph went up to the Broads and was as such opened en route, the poor old Turbo's I believe were toasted as they'd been oil starved after sitting on basically tickover for years
  11. Again, this is why I hired Fair Jubilee when I did, and why when I decide to the plunge into Boat ownership, I'll go for at least 30' and a minimum of 4 berth, you just get more space.
  12. I'm divorced ;) I'll ask the girlfriend instead!
  13. Could you lose 6" with heavy ballasting?
  14. Agreed Ezydog is thoroughly recommended
  15. You can generally spot the ones who are going to do it from a mile away too. The staffs response is always the same, no refund, just a new meal
  16. We sadly see this mentality in our local pub, people eat 3/4s of a meal, then send it back and ask for a refund...
  17. Nail meet head, Fair Jubilee being a prime example!
  18. Would something like this work? http://www.1-rv.co.uk/parkit360
  19. Definitely been some sort of leakage on the fitting as there is some corrosion on the base of the 'swirl pot' (sorry for the wrong terminology, it's what it looks like to someone like me who is used to 'tweaked' cars)
  20. In reality, what's an extra 100 hours, an extra 2 weeks of cruising? I really wouldn't stress about it, those engines will go on for years and years, especially if they've been well looked after, I would presume (and I may be entirely wrong here) that you can take some sort of third party cover out to protect yourself in the event of a major expense, much like you do when you buy a used car privately or for that matter from a dealer?
  21. Exciting times Robin! I'll be expecting a feature length Captains Blog comparable in length to Lord of the Rings if all goes ahead
  22. I think I'm safe on the next trip, got Brinks Omega booked, however after that hiring may be less of a problem if plans come together!
  23. Whilst responsible, can't help thinking that is going to put folk off. whilst in Tuscany a few years back we went on a day boat trip with some friends on Lake Trasimeno, granted we had a guy helming for us, but they honestly couldn't have poured any more wine and prosecco down our necks, I don't know where they kept it all, glass was never less than half full for a good 4 hour trip.
