  2. Oh trust me, I'd absolutely love to go out on her. She's amazing even with the current Cummins(?) motors, I was just reminiscing how awesome she would have sounded at full chat (wasn't that about 40 knots?) with the original petrol/avgas motors!
  3. RTTL2757 at RAF Hendon has always interested me, a 'crash' boat powered by two 1700hp RR Sea Griffons (a kind of marinised Merlin) built by Vospers, which would have been an amazing bit of kit... fuel bills must have been apocalyptic though
  4. It's a proper bit of kit isn't it! Would've loved to have heard it on the original engines though!
  5. Trying to do anything inside a Brinks Sonata is virtually impossible. It was my first broads boating experience, being 6'3", there was two of us, plus a dog for a week, in hindsight it wasn't the most inspired choice of boats. I don't think I ever actually got inside the heads, certainly never managed a shower, used public facilities with swimming shorts, which got some strange looks, even from fellow boaties... still clearly enjoyed it though as I've been back ever since!
  6. I think I saw the steamboat at Stalham staithe, trying to moor up/turn around in a Brinks Sonata on my first Broads trip!
  7. Nice looking boat, Presuming a launch or day oat given the size, I seem to recall having seen something similar in one of the wet sheds heading Horning direction from Wroxham?
  8. Sorry to hear this, as a relative newbie, I've never met you, but my thoughts are with you, and I'll raise one to Frances this afternoon after work. J
  9. Ems and I looked a 90' static barge in Devon a few years back moored off the back of Chivenor air base (I call it an airbase as that's what it was when I lived just up the road, aged 0 - 4yrs) but unfortunately couldn't secure the funds at the time, I think we will end up on a houseboat at some point, we both love boats, both love Devon, and for my work, it doesn't really matter where I am as I just need an internet connection. Ems is an office manager/planner so she could also work anywhere within reason. The idea of no rent (or at least minimal moorings) no mortgage, potentially no council tax and being able to hop into a butty boat to nip up the river to Tesco really appeals! Best of luck Robin, if you want it to work out enough, it usually does!
  10. Ah, maybe, she just mentioned she was in in East Sussex in an earlier post, hence my confusion!
  11. Didn't know you were 'local' Gracie whereabouts in East Sussex are you?
  12. Whilst not any more, I spent a few years when I was younger running pub Kitchens, and my parents run a wedding venue, my step mother being an event caterer, so I do have some understanding of the rules, day dots, blue and pink liquids etc, though my BFH (if that's still a thing?) is well out of date these days
  13. Much like an MOT on a car, it just means it was in a passable condition at the time of test, which is why the likes of cabs etc have to go for much more frequent tests. there are some fairly stupid loopholes in the MOT though, for instance, if your windscreen wipers don't work it's a fail, however, if you remove the windscreen, they don't need to, and you'll get a pass!
  14. Welcome aboard, tell us a bit more about yourself, owner/hirer, first timer/old hand sort of thing!
  15. I'll look forward to trying not to hit that in a few weeks then!
  16. I did Yorkies on Fair Jubilee a few years back, came out fine, will be doing them on Omega in October too, fingers crossed for the same result, different recipe though. 75g flour 75ml milk 55ml cold water 1 egg salt leave in fridge for a while, screaming hot pan of dripping, kept hot on hob whilst filling with mixture, 30mins 225 degrees C job jobbed!
  17. I asked a similar question a while back:
  18. Appears I was wrong, Vedett in my local is £5.70!!!
  19. Don't really see the problem with reserving pub moorings, in fact we've done it for our last night on Omega in October, we need the boat back in Wroxham for 9, so mooring in Horning and eating off the boat means we can have it clean and ready to go in the morning. I've only once managed to get on the public staithe at Horning and that was sheer luck as someone left as we were going past.
  20. Not surprised to see my home county of Sussex well up there, my local (5 strides from my door) has hit a new high at £4.80 for a pint of lager, be it nice lager. Though it does have the honour of being voted Englands best pub.
  21. The government seem quite happy selling most our other data so why not school dates, wouldn't surprise me!
  22. Hmmm, food, now that's a topic I can get on board with! in the UK, the OXO tower brasserie is one of my top favourites, along with the ginger pig in Brighton (no relation to the eponymous London Butcher) and Cafe Caldesi in Marylebone. overseas, a place called la bandita in Pienza, Tuscany.
  23. Looking forward to visiting the lion when we're up in October, hopefully white horse too, if we make it under the bridge...
  24. Wow, any of those prices seem very reasonable to me, my local (I live in a quaint village just over the hills from Brighton is a minimum of £5.50/pint
