  1. It was operated by Tasty Meats , they’re still trading from their farm shop and if you used to enjoy their meats/hampers they are happy to deliver them to your boat yard if ordered in advance . I used to use them regularly but we now go to Ludham butchers ( 01692 678226) who are IMHO just as good and slightly more competitively priced I find . Tasty Meats contact details below
  2. Don’t worry , Bank Holiday soon be here and madness will return
  3. Yes , as said chuck it out , but before doing so check it is tied to the rope and ensure your feet are clear of the rope too , also try and make sure you are moored facing into the wind
  4. If you need someone to install it , we used John Spruce 07768072004 , who was recommended to us by Alan May when he did our BSS , we found him excellent and most reasonably priced
  5. on the South Brooms are an excellent yard but premium price , Pacific again excellent and better value as are older but equally well presented boats , by all account Waveney River Centre are proving an excellent yard and although they are in their first full season at their helm is one of the most experienced and respected operators . Also more basic but ergo better priced we have Freedom where you will find older boats again and a more personal service . The trouble you may have is that as a group of four males not all yards hire to single sex parties and unless you’re very good friends you will need to book at least a six berth preferably even an eight berth
  6. Thankfully there are still such people afloat , we have encountered quite a few this year . Unfortunately people tend to only post when they have encountered di*****ds as opposed to one of the many friendly , helpful individuals they come across when afloat .
  7. To the best of my ,limited, knowledge the cost of waste collection from boat refuse bins from BA moorings is made by the BA from their budget , up till a few years ago this waste collection from many of the moorings was made by the local councils , at that time a discussion as to whether the boat waste from hire craft was commercial waste or otherwise was rife . It was no coincidence that this occurred at a time of local councils funding being cut and cost savings having to be made . The decision was that hire boat refuse was indeed commercial waste and ergo the council were not responsible for its removal , at that time many of the waste disposal points were removed. As far as dereliction of duty is concerned , there lies the problem , all hire boats are able to dispose of their waste at their hire yard base (not sure if is reciprocal between operators) , private craft even though the rubbish is not classed as commercial with these ,are able to use public waste points (unless indicated otherwise) or take it home , Kate and I normally take our weekends rubbish and dispose of in our home bins , when we were afloat for a week last month we used Oulton YS and Richardson’s (our home mooring) , so dereliction ? Perhaps not no more so for the BA than for the local councils whose businesses benefit greatly from the tourist trade . On the rivers around Cambs their are very few dedicated boat refuse bins , but there are far fewer hire craft too. The problems only arise when there are no bins and individuals cannot be bothered to take their rubbish with them , then sadly the clean up cost is often greater than the cost of providing bins in the first place . and yes I agree Andrew , it is not a you and me situation , we both have an interest in the beautiful Broads and their preservation .
  8. Boat refuse is collected by private contractors and is not paid for by local councils as it is treated as commercial refuse , checking back through threads from when many boat refuse points were removed this was confirmed to me . The responsibility for boat waste removal at BA moorings falls to the BA
  9. Sadly due to people behaviour nowadays (some not all) , if a charge were levied at point of disposal then fly tipping would become more commonplace , AFAIK a proportion of tolls collected goes to boat waste disposal . At Beccles the boat waste bins are in a compound and there is a sign stating “these bins are for boat waste only , and are covered by cctv incorrect use is liable to a fine “ I cannot remember how much the fine is . i should add that the Broadland rates do not pay for the collection of boat waste from these bins , that is paid for from the BA budget . yes some people put boat waste in a normal bin which they could be fined for , but people forget that empty Costa coffee cups , and takeaway cartons strictly speaking are also commercial waste and should also be taken home to be disposed of . i too live in an area of massive tourism and day trippers , even more so than Norfolk and I would rather contribute towards the cost than see the littering that would be the result of not doing so.
  10. All beaches request you take your rubbish with you , as does most National Parks. The main trouble with bins on the Broads is that rubbish from hire boats is commercial waste as opposed to the detritus from picnics and day trippers so we get constant arguments as to whom is responsible for its removal .
  11. There was a compactor there for a couple of years , trouble was people were nervous of putting waste in there and used to lay it on the ground beside it , plus it needed a specialised lorry to empty it
  12. The BA has reported that currently there is a very high quantity of rubbish being left at the rubbish disposal points , and whilst they appreciate it is being left there and not littering the area it would be helpful if visitors and boaters could take it home to dispose of . 13. I presume your windlass to be a powered one ? if it is if you google the make and model you can get the specs up which will include max load , depending on which mud weight you decide upon (most are 26kg)I seriously doubt any electric windlass would struggle.
  14. Currently , single mooring only at Gt Yarmouth Yacht station . attached is current BA policy
  15. No need for arguments, signage in place (with alterations) makes it clear , if you do not wish to have another vessel alongside then politely decline the request . From a personal point of view , if a polite request is made and the boat wishing to moor alongside is of a size suitable to do so then they are welcome ; if however they do not ask and assume they can just do it I would be less inclined to allow them to . The Broads is known for its friendly atmosphere and I for one would only wish to support that belief .
  16. Excerpt from BA Facebook page , good to read the final paragraph
  17. Just tried , works fine accessing via Safari on an iPhone
  18. As mentioned elsewhere , the BA has issued a press release (EDP) stating that Stalham Staithe is now a BA mooring , hopefully this means the much awaited action on the resident boats can be taken .
  19. Many years ago we were on Fair Diplomat and had moored up on Horning Staithe , a hire boat passed us at 21:00 seeking a mooring first downstream then upstream , it was obviously a hen party boat , Katie wasn’t overly amused when I waved them over and tied them up alongside . They were in fact a very nice bunch and after a couple of drinks in the Swan (and they bought one for us too) they reboarded and were soon asleep , only waking when they smelt our bacon in the morning
  20. Indeed it was added to some signs , but many never read the small print and I don’t think it’s on all signs , Stokesby has a small sticker that has also been added to the top of the sign
  21. The trouble is the signage , it simply states “please double moor at busy times” no mention of with boat owners consent even if they do double moor , there is no legislation that states you have to permit them to use your boat as a land bridge
  22. The Late Great Stanley Unwin a unique talent of stage and screen
  23. Potential storage unit moored up near Sutton Broad , May need shoring up .
