  1. WRC are indeed good, modern boats . I didn’t recommend them as the OP stated that he wished to explore the Bure ,Ant and Thurne network. If he was thinking of exploring the Southern Broads then Broom , WRC and Silverline would be my recommendations
  2. I think it’s fair to say that Herbert Woods are NOT the best maintained fleet on the Broads , if Mrs London is particular about boat appearing spotless I would steer towards NBD , the newer Richardson’s fleet and Ferry Marina . Summercraft although now a very much reduced fleet of 2 boats offering have always been exceptional too. That said , Herbert Woods have a new Broom Captain (Gleaming Light) they fitted out and that would probably be perfect for you both .
  3. I still fail to understand why when all of these new posts were installed the payment method was not set up to the use of debit cards instead of the need to purchase electricity cards and the inherent expense involved in this .
  4. Probably because a majority of us ,or maybe just me ,don’t know what it is , I had to google it
  5. Yes will be a fault as opposed to design fault and since the yard has been informed (if not in person but certainly by the review) I feel confident that it would have been addressed , WRC has a very good reputation , if you have concerns phone them before you go on holiday to confirm it has been addressed . Often people say the batteries don't charge but fail to mention they have left all the lights on , didn’t turn the inverter off (a big no no) etc etc . you will have a wonderful time , relax and enjoy
  6. When my father was first introduced to my exsister in law by my brother in the pub he asked her what she wanted to drink “I think I’d like a brandy and babysham “ was her response to which my father replied “well you had better think again”
  7. Not just pub interiors change over the years , Katie and I have too
  8. If , as seems , the general consensus is, that the otters have caused the vastly reduced levels of ducks, and other wild fowl and these otters we know were reintroduced by man to The Broads then ergo the change in the ecological balance was man made . Otters, having no natural predators , population has grown rapidly since they were reintroduced as is evident by the numbers seen today , and will continue to grow without yet again intervention by mankind. History has shown that any move to cull or even manage numbers of a wild mammal results in action being taken by various groups of individuals , and these are often seen to be the same protestors that seem (IMO) to make an occupation of supporting one cause or another on an almost weekly basis. As far as definite proof that my concerns are true is concerned , then I agree it is based on conjecture and would gladly listen to proof that I am incorrect
  9. Congratulations on your acquisition and a warm welcome to the NBN from Katie and I . Respect to you for taking on the task ahead and I’m sure there are members far more qualified than I who will be only too glad to offer insightful assistance with any queries you may have .
  10. So , once again the interference and mismanagement of man ( and woman) in reintroducing a top predator to an area results in the decimation of other wildlife . How long I wonder, before there is a need to cull the rapidly expanding otter population , which will no doubt be opposed by the seemingly professional protest at everything brigade that plagues our everyday lives .
  11. On the new “lakes” by the mouth of the Ant you can often see large flocks of water fowl , I think Mouldy may be correct in his assumption .
  12. Trouble is payment ,in full , has already been sent for full toll , if I also purchase a short term toll I won’t be able to claim it back off next years toll only this years so it will be over and above what I have paid for this year . dont object to paying my toll but I will be b*****ed if I’m paying them extra
  13. The tender wasn’t tolled last year as the previous owner no longer used it , so he informed the BA to that end last year and it was listed as being no longer being tolled or on the Broads. When speaking to the BA and giving previous reg number (as required to do so if craft previously registered on the system) I was informed that it had to be treated as a new registration but will be issued with the same reg number
  14. We have now waited for three weeks for Yare House to confirm receipt and issue toll for our recent tender purchase , we had hoped to be able to use it last week , understand totally that Covid-19 measures prevent a visit in person to toll it but why they couldn’t permit me to re toll an existing previously tolled (number given to them) craft is ridiculous (albeit previously tolled by someone else), they have my details on record under Cerise Lady’s toll details . Im sure that if we had used her the ever present rangers would have been on us and fined us , if they are able to issue short visit tolls to hirers on the spot as we saw them doing so to a hirer who also had an inflatable with outboard near Wayford then why the hell are they unable to issue one either online or by phone especially as they charge a full years toll so we are in effect paying for the weeks they are denying us its use .
  15. I would be astounded if there was any helm amongst us that has not made a total cock up of a mooring especially in winds similar to those encountered lately , whether they be private or hirer . The newer larger hire craft have almost without exception bow thrusters fitted , many also have stern thrusters , ergo these larger craft are much easier to manoeuvre than smaller craft without the aids. On Saturday last , Kate and I were moored up on Neatishead sheltering from the wind and spent a large portion of the afternoon taking stern lines from cruisers (including one privateer) and pulling them down into the dyke as the winds were causing helms great difficulty in achieving any semblance of being able to gain a mooring . We literally went from boat to boat , passing the lines to other boats already moored to assist and without exception everyone was more than happy to help when we asked them , a perfect example of Broadland spirit . This resulted not only in “self preservation” but also enabling others to relax and hanker down safely , and I must have turned down an offer of at least a dozen pints (yes I know unbelievable for me ) . editted to add , hands sanitised after every time and social distancing respected
  16. That would be George , if concerned as to passage under the bridge give him a ring and he will advise you , also due to Covid-19 measures he prefers you to ring in advance to arrange pump out etc. Ludham Bridge boat yard number is :- 01692 631011
  17. Gently motored up to Sutton where Katie would be joining me later after her hospital shift , she duly arrived at 21:30 much in need of a glass of Merlot , the next three evenings we didn’t travel far at all flitting between Neatishead and Gayes staithe as we simply wanted to hanker down from the wind or relax , which we certainly did. Today the sun actually shone , gave me a chance to shampoo Cerise Lady before a leisurely pootle via Wayford bridge to the wet shed , clean up and head home , whilst we were enjoying a coffee before departing the wet sheds frequent visiting kingfisher alighted on our bow rails for five or so minutes .
  18. Back home after a relaxing four nights afloat , I travelled up early Friday so as to collect a dingy and outboard we had purchased (thank you Ray ) and also to pop into Stalham staithe to get the bill for our engines services which we used Marine Transmissions to carry out for the first time , and speaking as I find , they were very reasonable and thorough and they also cleaned them extremely well .
  19. Katie and I strolled up to the White Horse this evening , food was as good as always as was the beer ; what was noticeable and exceptional was the measures put in place per covid-19 , hats off to the team at the White Horse whose service and attention to detail puts others to shame
