  1. And a hell of a lot of love and companionship too
  2. Katie was a bit miffed to say the least , lol
  3. When you take over the picnic boat check that the gas on the ring stays on when you let go of the button , we hired one from Martham Ferry and you had to hold the button in until the kettle boiled !!
  4. Katie and I hope to see you all on Saturday , we will be attending by car though
  5. Unlike wooden boats , grp sadly , cannot be kept in as new condition using the “Triggers Broom” method .
  6. What happens to old grp boats ? ours is 42 years old and she is loved and cared for , and will continue to be so for many more years to come . I would have thought a more important subject to worry about in today’s society would be to question what is going to happen to all the dangerous , toxic batteries once they are no longer functional and are discarded , leaking their harmful deadly chemicals into the earth. This rapid move to electric powered vehicles poses a very worrying future for the environment
  7. Make sure you let them know you wish to mud weight as they do not usually attach them to picnic boats , but will upon request (well Barnes do)
  8. I’m up at the weekend , I can pop in and ask on your behalf if you like John , only difficulty I can see is if you get a 30ft mooring for now and your new boat is for example 35ft
  9. If weather is not too windy I tend to use Ludham Bridge , otherwise my preferred fill up is Boulters , their pump outs are excellent ,
  10. The main thing to remember about the Broads is to RELAX , take things as they come , aim to moor up mid afternoon instead of last thing and enjoy your surroundings .
  11. Usually by the time the EDP print anything it’s already out of date
  12. I have been out of the trade for longer now than I was in it for, I left when the ukgov at the time capped the amount of tied houses a brewery could have which gave rise to the Pubco franchises , most of the premises that we were interested in were these new pubcos and even then as a youngster before I would commit to anything I fully investigated and made sure I understood the implications of these (then new) leases , prior to pubcos rented pubs the profits were “shared” by the licensee and the Brewery with these new leases a new tier was introduced so profits were now going firstly to the freeholder (the pubco) then the brewery and finally if any were left to the publican ergo more slices out of an already lean pie. dont get me wrong , I sympathise with the many publicans struggling in these difficult times , many (including The New Inn) have been able to take advantage of the ukgov £25k package to help them , and I hope that those in difficulties do manage to come through this.
  13. And of course with the zigzagging on the return the journey is twice as far
  14. We encountered a group of 8 or so at Rockland St Mary who were pumping them up behind our mooring , ranger launch came in to check the life ring was in place and moored up and went and spoke with them , being the nosey sod I am I earwigged and he asked them as to having paid tolls , they informed him they were members of GB canoeing and showed home something on their mobiles , they were all in their early twenties/late teens . Family group at Gayes last weekend had one , she didn’t know she needed a toll when we were chatting (they were on a hire boat) and didn’t know she needed one on her home waterways either I have her a link to GBC and she actually signed up that afternoon . The trouble seems to be that there is no indication of the need for a toll when purchasing these boards . A simple disclaimer/warning at the top of the assembly instructions that Tolls may be applicable on inland waterways should be in existence
  15. Haven’t tried myself but have been told is very effective
  16. I can understand people’s frustrations with various pubcos and their method of business , however , a lot of the finance behind these pubcos comes from hedge funds which control many thousands of people’s pension funds which we all know are suffering due to the very low base rate of interest and have been for many years now , the only way these funds can operate is by protecting their “bottom line”. When i was a licensee I avoided taking on one of these premises based on the terms and conditions of the lease , which actually included forced closure due to infectious diseases and pandemics, so as frustrating as it is those licensees you see on telly complaining that they still have to pay their rent were for-warned and agreed to it when signing their leases .
  17. Most of the paddle boarders I have met recently have become members of British Canoeing for £40pa which grants them access to all waterways in England (almost 2800 miles) as opposed to £35.07pa for a Broads only toll (approx 121miles). they do not have to display a toll number but must carry proof of membership
  18. You must walk bl**dy fast if The Fir and Feathers is a 15 min walk from The Salhouse Broad moorings , it takes me a brisk 30mins and if Katie is with me nearer to 40mins
  19. Nothing on their Facebook page , had live music on Saturday the 1st
  20. I know they were moving into a new bungalow this month but they said they were continuing with the pub as well
  21. Currently available at store in my area if you wanted me to grab a couple
  22. Prefer a grp type but would consider inflatable ideally approx 2metre as would be towing it astern
