  1. My thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of the young man who sadly passed away yesterday. May I respectively suggest that any further speculation as to the hows and whys be saved for another time and allow those that knew the fatality to grieve in peace .
  2. Great to see you’re enjoying your new boat . The open sea is far more challenging than Breydon is even on a rough day . Please make sure you have means of communication , pref fm (with relavent licence) life savers and a life raft or dingy , and enjoy . hope you didn’t mind my saying this
  3. Currently in The Maltsters , Ranworth checking the beers ok
  4. And as per Norman Stanley Fletcher , did a hole to put the spoils in to dispose of it .
  5. Snook up last night for a few days , Katie is loving the peace at home whilst I’m afloat !! Not much space left for me at Sutton Staithe last night !! Neatishead only three other boats when I arrived this morning , full now (15:00hrs)
  6. The rule of six specifies that if the family bubble is greater than six in the same household then that is ok . if two families of four started their holiday afloat prior to the deadline on Monday then they have formed an existing bubble of eight within the same household , ie the hire boat , as they were living together prior to the change in legislation .
  7. The new ruling is gatherings of 6 or less dependant on family bubble , if bubble is greater then that is also permitted . The new legislation has been forced upon the incumbent party by many individuals ignoring the measures and guidelines (as it would have been irrespective of who was at the helm during this Covid-19 crisis) . In many cases those seen in the media speaking out against the “rule of six” are the same individuals whose reckless behaviour has escalated the Covid-19 figures (plus of course the simple fact that more people are being tested) . As I have been harking along since early days if people simply wash their hands frequently , use sanitiser when soap or water is not available , respect the two meter distancing where possible and wear face coverings then we can beat this terrible virus ; ignore these very simple rules and we will continue to live in its shadow . as a footnote , well done to Gareth Southgate who acted promptly and IMHO correctly in sending the two players who broke the Covid-19 rules in place . And once again thank you to the NHS , support workers , and all those working hard to hold this dreadful virus at bay.
  8. Katie and I always drive home via Hastings when we pop to Brighton for the weekend , a pint and a game of bar billiards in the Jenny Lind followed by a pint of smoked prawns on the beach ........ heaven
  9. The video that shows the effect of wrong timing and “turning left in error” well is this one IMO https://youtu.be/qpOTDtjaO7s
  10. We have recently purchased a Seago 230 with Suzuki 2.5hp outboard, and find them excellent. The seago is at the lower price range but still a quality product and will take three adults but will be snug , outboard lightweight for a petrol powered one and very economical . We were fortunate to find ours in excellent condition from another NBN member . If I were purchasing new I would have gone for one with an air floor as opposed to slide in floor slats ( we have a solid floor also supplied with the dingy to counter not having airdeck) .
  11. As a youngster I was fortunate to have been amongst the passengers on the first channel crossing out of Portsmouth on the Hoverspeed , much of the journey I was in a crew seat on the bridge . Somewhere I have the admittedly poor quality photos I took , along with the certificate and pack given to all passengers on the day. My mothers side of the family resided (and still does) in the Southampton/Portsmouth area and my late uncle was a submariner and ended up working for hover speed in the development department .
  12. Are they hydraulic ? If so you have to have reasonable revs on the engine (have it in neutral) for them to work properly
  13. Russell Marine , small jetty by the handbag
  14. Yes indeed , some do have separate shower stalls also but that tends to be the highlight end , dearer hires
  15. Condolences to family and friends of the casualty . Hopefully we can all respect this time of grief and avoid any unnecessary speculation/discussion
  16. WRC are indeed good, modern boats . I didn’t recommend them as the OP stated that he wished to explore the Bure ,Ant and Thurne network. If he was thinking of exploring the Southern Broads then Broom , WRC and Silverline would be my recommendations
  17. I think it’s fair to say that Herbert Woods are NOT the best maintained fleet on the Broads , if Mrs London is particular about boat appearing spotless I would steer towards NBD , the newer Richardson’s fleet and Ferry Marina . Summercraft although now a very much reduced fleet of 2 boats offering have always been exceptional too. That said , Herbert Woods have a new Broom Captain (Gleaming Light) they fitted out and that would probably be perfect for you both .
  18. I still fail to understand why when all of these new posts were installed the payment method was not set up to the use of debit cards instead of the need to purchase electricity cards and the inherent expense involved in this .
  19. Probably because a majority of us ,or maybe just me ,don’t know what it is , I had to google it
  20. Yes will be a fault as opposed to design fault and since the yard has been informed (if not in person but certainly by the review) I feel confident that it would have been addressed , WRC has a very good reputation , if you have concerns phone them before you go on holiday to confirm it has been addressed . Often people say the batteries don't charge but fail to mention they have left all the lights on , didn’t turn the inverter off (a big no no) etc etc . you will have a wonderful time , relax and enjoy
