I would like an additional mark for the technical difficulty of the dance. I watched a Charleston last that barely qualified as a dance that out pointed a waltz. Marking seems a little generous this year.

Is it me or is The Broads population of wildlife seriously out of whack? in the 90’s, grebe’s everywhere and seeing a kingfisher was a treat, now it’s the other way round. Swans everywhere and great flocks of geese but not so many ducks. Not seen many Dragon flies as I used to. First noticed this around the time the river banks was rebuilt and lagoons was installed behind especially on the Ant but things are certainly different than they was. I know the Broads are not really natural but are these change to fast?

Noticed, down south, a rig that had a mesh in a hopper that filtered the dredged mud before pumping onto land. It’s was around the Beccles junction. lined up on the barge where a selection of old bottles and flagon type jars that had been filtered out.

Hi all, Richardson's have been for some time using what is in effect, an artificial diesel substitute Its supposed to burn cleaner, non harming to the environment and last longer than the normal stuff. Due to the small window available to use their pumps, I haven't used much of it but I can see that changing in the future. I run a BMC 1.5 and I was wondering does this stuff attack seals or indeed bad for the engine? cant find much on the internet so I thought I'll ask the hive mind. When I did use it, it was on another BMC that gave up it's life due to a failed timing tensioner.

Has anyone noticed a downward trend to services provided to boaters in general? I’m on the southern Broads and getting diesel was a lot harder than past years. Some yards only sell to berth holders, others understandably was serving their fleet and one after 11 o’clock when the day boats had gone. a bit easier on the northern rivers but a bit more hassle like waiting in a queue in very narrow waters. Just a thought as marginal profits are made on pump outs and diesel will these slowly disappear?

From my plant days, variable valve? Engine stays at set rpm and solenoid detects how much fluid to flow by how far control moved A bit like a 360 digger. All or none cylinders can be very accurately controlled. final speed by engine rpm of control movement.

Hi collective Due to someone painting over my raw water pump I need to Identify the impeller. Any writing is lost under blue hammer right it’s on a BMC 1.5 so I guess it must be the most popular fitment. thanks in advance

I think it’s more to the point is finding out what exactly happened and how. Over high tides are not rare and we really need to know what it hit.

Big time staff problem all around. Near where I work we have an assortment of eateries that are suffering. Those smaller units are fighting rising costs and becoming uncompetitive. whereas, the middling places are cutting opening times because they can not attract enough staff. Only the chains seem to doing well. Hell of a circle. You need to attract staff so you have to put your prices up for better wages, that on top of rising running costs makes the food too expensive

I guess as the rivers provide less income to the surrounding area I expect to see more of this happening. You see it in cites and towns where the river once brought wealth now gets boatyards to houses, moorings to riverside cafes and complaints from residents about eyesores.

As one who is tasked with keeping public footpaths clear around my section of the m25, I feel every one’s pain. unfortunately, strimming is just one aspect of my job and I’m afraid low priority, more pressing matters always seem to appear, and yes these other jobs are also statuary ones. More so in most cases. You could employ more workers but that’s a commitment for life. You can’t just off load them at slow times. For value for money it’s a good strategy to make your operative multi skilled. I for one can drive a snow plough, repair pot holes, drive a road sweeper, hgv class one, temporary traffic management, spray weed killer and the list goes on. And believe me, if you’re clearing public footpaths on the outer reaches of your patch, someone, somewhere will say you are wasting time and money doing that when you could be doing this. push your local council to find out why is this service lacking but I think you will find out that it will boil down to the lack of warm bodies to do the work

For me, it’s the engines and running gear. On a grp boat, pretty much infinite repair but lose your trust in that engine and your boat is a floating caravan.

Hi. so while cleaning Autumns shower room, I noticed serious corrosion around the plug hole connection into the plastic u bend. Time to change it. Easy job. Unscrew retaining nut, undo plastic connection to u bend, push up plug hole. Nope. Years of corrosion made the nut fall apart and someone in their wisdom had glued the plastic hand nut to the metal threads. Anyway the question is, why do I need a u bend when the sink empties straight out? Tradition? it would make winterisation a little easier. Thoughts oh hive mind.

And yet another testimonial to the need for this kind of service. When we needed recovery, we were miles away from any road. Its a drum I like to beat.

I know a few people see this holiday as a second break to a main one abroad. They are very surprised at the cost. Those older boats, paid for long ago, now let go, should maybe have been refurbished and kept in fleet

Even our vending machines at work take card or Apple Pay. To be honest, with no minimum payment and a high maximum, even your phone and watch has the ability to make payments cash lives in my wallet gathering dust. But knowing how rubbish internet connection is on the Broads, cash is king for on bank payment

Now I pootle along at 4 mph pretty much everywhere, mainly due to a/ im tight and b/ she seems comfortable at 1500 revs. But now I feel less guilty about leading a train from Great Yarmouth to Acle. Here’s to life at 4 mph

I don’t know about BA, but in my game, the highways, costs have not just shot up but shot up in multiples. From fuel to costs of steel. Type one and two hardcore material have doubled in price in a month. So the BA not only going to put up the toll, they are going to have to be very picky about what they do.
