  1. Being from nowhere near Norfolk I would go by whatever Allan Smethurst would say... Best listen to all of his albums; he's bound to mention them all somewhere! And when visiting my boat I turn off the A47 at Postwick.
  2. Large windows, a toilet, the ability to keep most of the water on the outside, no long sticks on the roof with string and flappy bits, especially aluminium sticks with bits of string hanging down that go "ting ting ting" all bloody night in a breeze, no log burner, no potted plants (anywhere on the planet!).
  3. So you build up the mental image with a fine description of the mooring, then shatter it all with the last sentence! Should we have a separate thread for discussing our own underwear? Have a great time!
  4. This reminds me of another famous Monty Python sketch............. Some motoring forums will say that car's onboard computers will always show you around 10% better fuel economy for sales purposes. That said, my diesel Corsa 1.3 has a Fiat based engine and on a good day the 142 miles to Brundall, cruise set to 72mph (shows 69 on the satnav) A14/A11 gets me a score of 74 to 80 mpg. back to the anomolies of the computer though: I have noticed that if I use the same brand of fuel for a while then change, I always get the higher score. Currently averaging only 55 with these short journeys. April 12th we took the Volvo XC90 (2.5 litre 5 cyl) and kept the speed down to around 65 and got 42mpg.
  5. I never knew this stuff existed until I went looking for something to clean the sliding volume controls on an old Bontempi organ: https://www.screwfix.com/p/wd-40-specialist-contact-cleaner-400ml/92716
  6. This is just one reason I never use a jet wash. The others being the noise, the faff with the electrics and the fact that a normal hose delivers more water quickly. A quick pre-rinse softens any mud which will then come off easy with a brush. Jet wash around the engine can also cause belts to slip. I used to have one but binned it as a waste of time.
  7. Not sure, as I said earlier, not that familiar with these engines. I think in a vehicle this breed of engine has the timing chain at the front but who knows what these marine boys get up to in the workshop?
  8. Another complete guess: if the starter turns the crank via the flywheel end and hand cranking is via t'other end, broken crank?
  9. I'm not familiar with those engines but that much valve clearance suggests to me that the pistons have clobbered the valves and bent them. They don't seat properley hence the pop.
  10. I know this forum is no litmus paper for the rest of the World but when F1 became slightly more expensive to watch live recently there was immediate talk of cancelling subscriptions and finding cheaper ways of watching. And people questioning how much they really needed to watch it anyway. No such thing with football, it's more like a religion; there is no question of actually NOT watching it. I haven't seen any suggestion of a boycott and if there is, it's been pretty slow in coming. Maybe the powers that be would take more notice if subscriptions were cancelled, season tickets weren't bought and over priced replica team shirts stayed in the club stores. That said, there are hard core fans of any sport with the same addiction. Pre covid, you would meet one if you went to Leicester Tigers rugby ground and stood in someone's regular spot!
  11. What I don't get with football is why poor people throw all their spare money at rich people?
  12. Is the animal still inside the receptacle, or have you let the cat out of the bag?
  13. I can recommend one of these, shop around for the best price: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Milenco-MGI-Plastic-Double-Step-Caravan-Motorhome-Camper/271881042230?hash=item3f4d5f7936:g:v84AAOSwoQ5fjJ3F Note the feet. My boat came with one of the metal caravan steps and the narrow feet kept getting lodged between the planking of the pontoon, making it a bit scary at times. The one above is stable and there are holes in the feet if you wanted to tie it down for extra security. I also tie-wrapped a couple of empty plastic bottles underneath just in case it falls in.
  14. Diesel used to be a lot cheaper than petrol because it's cheaper to produce and there's more of it. The a government decided they didn't want us to use diesel and loaded the duty to make it more expensive than petrol. So why not just give notice and ban it altogether? Probably because it's not such a problem after all but we'll have the duty thanks. Electric cars were around in the 1970's but all the technology was bought up and hidden away for fear of doing harm to the established car industry by forcing them into investment. The oil industry probably had an iron in the fire too. LPG seems to have gone quiet and I guess anyone investing vast amounts to produce electric cars would be pretty miffed if someone came along and proved hydrogen power (or something else) was better? Just saying, but I suspect alternatives to electric cars will be pretty quiet for a while more. We could all help if we didn't change our cars for vanity reasons. Cars should be built to last for ever. Got a kitchen roll at home? Dump it and use a dish cloth. Look at the process of making paper versus recycling paper and you'll see there's very little difference in terms of energy used. The energy consumption in both cases probably does more damage to the environment than tree loss. I think environmental change would be a lot quicker if we all looked to ourselves rather than governments and industry, we're educated after all aren't we? Who got me started?
  15. No, but it can try: 2014. Derwent water, Lake District. During a period when the water level was exceptionately low, exposing normally submerged areas, some bright spark thought they would get a photo of Giles Academy's brand new Transit minibus in the middle of the lake. Got the pic but while stationary, it sank in the mud to it's axles.
  16. The tiddly car behind the motorhome would be zero rated road tax. Servicing would be minimal if the mileage it does during the year is low, like it's only used for holidays? Unless one is daft enough to let a main dealer charge an arm and a leg for changing the oil and ticking a load of boxes on a service sheet, oh and a free wash. The insurance could be very low, again, linked to low mileage. Overall, the cost of the tiddly car could well be less than the cost of all the accumulated site seeing travel costs of the year's holiday trips. And then there's the convenience of not having to rely on public transport. Not something I would do but I can see the positives. It's the kind of set up I would think ideal for touring Scotland.
  17. Ah, but did you hit owt? My best scores were always just after a long lay off, then next time, full of confidence, couldn't hit a barn door stood next to it! But nice to hear the bangs again and have a dirty gun to clean!
  18. You lot, honestly! Search on St Bennets and when it says "results for St Benets" click underneath for "St Bennets" and you'll find quite a bit of stuff like this: https://www.artgallerysw.co.uk/product/st-bennets-abbey/ They're probably using all the old spellings and names? The map is based on the London Underground style which itself is based on an electrical wiring diagram style. The stations on the underground map are on alternate sides of the line. Just buy one and enjoy it!
  19. I'll shortly be able to see the practical side of electric cars: One of my sons will soon get his new company car, a fully electric Audi estate. Family is a wife, three kids and a dog. No charging point at home yet but free charge at work. They live in Leicestershire with a static caravan holiday booked in Dorset later in the year. The onboard computer/satnav tells you when and where it's best to recharge. First calculation says there'll be a 45 minute stop either way, and Audi supply a 3 pin converter for when you're there. It'll be interesting to see how it works in practise. Tax breaks for electric company cars make them very attractive indeed, at the moment!
  20. I'm about to experience the second hand market and wondering which way it's going to go; I have my Father in law's Kia Venga to sell but I'm wondering if there is going to be so many cars for sale that prices may drop.
  21. I would think they can if they want to but a decent firm wouldn't want you to. As the vaccine hasn't been established to be 100% effective anyway I doubt any rights about working with unvaccinated people could be established, yet. And by the time it could we will all have been jabbed anyway. I would think you could only express your concerns and hope for a sympathetic ear. Shouldn't be much of a problem anyway so long as all the precautions are taken with regard to social distancing, wearing masks etc. My wife has been working at home for around the same time but has recently started going back into the office one day a week as they try and head towards some kind of normality. I love Wednesdays!
  22. Will Kirby here: https://www.freshwatermarine.co.uk/ He's based in Blofield.
  23. floydraser

    Ooops!

Fair play to the bloke for not being afraid to get out and be seen.
  24. And Ben Edwards has moved on from Channel 4 so we have another voice to get used to.
