Dredging - Lowe Bure - Lack Of Maintenance
Bytheriver replied to BroadAmbition's topic in Broads Chat
But not from the Navigation budget surely - It could take the whole budget. -
RSPB withdrew their objection at the second hearing Their initial objection was due to lack of information / contact from the applicant. As it was an application to Broadland DC it was all streamed live and finally approved after firming up opening hours but then no more heard!

Do RSPB not own or lease the marshes between Berney Arms & the A47 They were certainly involved in the Licencing Application for a Bistro a few years back as well as the IDB Planning Application for Halvergate & Loughlin Marshes?

Dredging - Lowe Bure - Lack Of Maintenance
Bytheriver replied to BroadAmbition's topic in Broads Chat
We have to remember that BA are not responsible for dredging for drainage purposes only for Navigation It is the Environment Agency who are responsible. The Inland Drainage Boards ( funded by Local Authorities ) pump the water from the fields & marshes The large grabs of the past were in the Anglian Water then Environment Agency yards. All went in re-structuring & are now hired when needed. Probably needs getting our friendly MPs on the case again? -
Raised Thursday morning BA van + SoB in attendance I am told it has been towed away
-
Just been looking at some of the EA Gauging station reports for the upper reaches ( non tidal ) & though levels had started to fall before Thursdays rain the quickly went up again only just beginning to fall so a lot of water still to get into the system - so much that I suspect the lower reaches are self scouring well. Farmers want their flooded fields back asap before crops lost ( winter wheat was growing well )but no help to flood situations on the broads

I am sure there is a shorter version of link! https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fmailchi.mp%2F921dd221a763%2Fbroads-briefing-october-23%3Fe%26fbclid%3DIwAR3LuXV5xeYJtDMnhkqWuqsMQFg31E_LjHgYiUzm_gIgPDIr9VcfSu8flHQ&h=AT3c0oHZkYCPrpVEIh--jOkWjGmw4_20PXvPMYg2cVkMd_LEbbHzPP7fR2lh6vUUTFS45IVa1XvPdf6wWdx7gYz2cQTdznFkUb_MpQl2m5jIHUwcb92doXloOE0NFQ-9xuN0O313YGuriIW3V8TX&__tn__=-UK-R&c[0]=AT1JETyBVbmH3BQOtSEQ6rqzP68beKvwqfC0chrxPHXHAV0uyugY76YSkZCIp8cPWxN1Ixm9Lt67d24CJoVCb0vy7DNRVhswSWF0rHDIrf7GRm1ElgDZR6HXqB0QkhfsTQpaH3AmiQFk2N56kTU8ZfqKsCDKX8ZqcaT-h8C-gwLSxV_dqvFWIQyAzUtc9vqLFiwbgENhKrl6_KmjBrw

Those toll payers & hirers may like to contemplate how many additional moorings are required & how much increase it toll would be tolerated to achieve this & we must bear in mind the principle that once higher lease payments are offered others could well want some more at next negotiations time?
-
You can also phone them - the number is in the Broadcaster Magazine ( also Somerleyton slightly lower bridge but same design Always worth checking the train timetable ( Norwich to Lowestoft ) as most trains cross at Reedham & bridge is right by the station at Somerleyton so you can predict most of the times the bridge will not open & save having to hang about

Not a Boat Fire At Reedham Ferry - Just a boat heading for refurbishment
Bytheriver replied to Microbe's topic in Broads Chat
Looks like it went downstream through Reedham this morning tied to a tug - the amount of streaky dirt & missing windscreen could have been mistaken for a fire but looks like it has been moored or on the hard for a few years? -

I live at Reedham & no smoke seen & Quay Ranger did not mention anything Will make enquiries -
The Inland Waterways Association have started a campaign to procure more funding for the Canal & River Trust & are involving like minded groups https://waterways.org.uk/fund-britains-waterways The Broads being funded from the National Park pot ( hence it had their share of the additional cash for 2023-4) is not under the same threat (as yet) Letters to your MP to make them aware of the situation would not come amiss ?

Makes total sense Here on the South there is an even more marked decline in visitors from the North when ideal crossing time is early or late (The time to reach a mooring clearly has an effect as does 30 boats migrating North for the 2023 has led to far fewer boats staying south for their week ( or part week on weekend or midweek hires)

North Norfolk have new waste facilities at Neatshead & Hoveton definitely - It was Great Yarmouth who removed all of their sites at Stokesby Repps side at Potter & Acle Bridge South Norfolk have "Litter Bins" emptied daily at Loddon after misuse by non boaters

With the change in balance on Broadland District Council it could take even longer ( Those who live there could lobby their Councillor who may not even be aware of the situation.

Advice About Picking Up Passengers After Boat Pick Up

One of the reasons the capacity of the boat is indicated after the Registration Number ! -

I will check with Reedham Ranger tomorrow as I don't think they have put the numbers back up this year Broadcaster does not give them though does for Oulton Broad ( same as last year)
-
They are quite happy to be called ( quite a boring job now as they do not control the signals any more ( done from Colchester) but remember the facility was withdrawn a few years ago when people were blaming the signaller for every fault & delay. A lot of money has been spent with more to come in the autumn though it will not stop the bridges expanding in hot weather ( its not just the rails )From observation despite last summers hot weather they were only closed on some afternoons

Certainly progress in last week or so the side in the pic had not even got its new steel piling then now just back side to get its timbers + paths to reinstate & with dry week could soon be finished
-
To be clear for those new to the discussion you can book in advance at Oulton Broad & Beccles but not at BA facilities

Buses from Norwich Station need careful planning as most do not pass Rail Station but run from City Centre & less between Station & City on Sundays but at least all from same Bus Stop in road outside now Brundall Gardens Station - not many stop there far more to Brundall & ultra close to White Swan Mooring ( Book a meal & get a mooring Always ring Yarmouth Yacht Station on day before to get passing time for your specific boat Acle Taxis - need to book day or more before My preference would be Wroxham - take away the stress Moor in Boatyards or book space + meal at Hotel Wroxham?

Cantley only has one bus out per day which goes back only on request - Sunday is the best day for train to Berney Arms
