  1. Interesting. It's a former Swancraft. Built in 1986 so its no spring chicken. Its amazing what a bit of panelling and upholstery will do. If they'll go any deeper I don't know. I think windows are always an issue on these older boats and I believe they are expensive to overhaul properly. Trouble is if you don't do it they leak and cause rot and damage the interior. That boat will have quite a few windows. As others have said though its a design classic. To me Swan Royale is still the best boat ever and that was the 32 foot version. But let's face it, any investment is always welcome!
  2. Your diligence does you credit Mr Fire Sir Please keep up the good work as I suspect it will be something of a moving feast Do hope the Bridge can get the staff trained up which I'm sure they can. Arguably the best run pub on the Broads (IMHO of course). Any news about the Dog? I think you mentioned a while back they would be closed until Easter? Anyway, won't the Waveney be more on your radar now?
  3. Like Babycham. It's just sparkling perry. When it first came out it didn't sell. They (think it was Showerings) hiked the price up, gave it a fancy bottle and glass and the rest is history.
  4. Didn't the old adverts for Stella Artois use the phrase "reassuringly expensive" Heaven knows why!
  5. Good grief! I could have four holidays with Bridgecraft for that! Or it would keep me in beer for a year..............well nearly......... Or Mrs Nog in doubles for a month But I suppose there are always those who want the best (or what they percieve as the best) and are prepared to pay accordingly. And there are folks around with money. Mind you finding moorings in August..........
  6. I'm sure I've seen somewhere that they don't but can't remember where. I think the hulls are very similar to the Adventuring Light ones - probably would fit at a pinch but I wouldn't think they would let hirers do it. Its a shame actually as it would be a great way to explore those waters. Herbert Woods could consider taking hirers under I suppose, on the strict understand they bring them back! I think after I'd had a shandy or three in the Nelson Head and the Pleasure Boat it could be a bit iffy!
  7. Oh you are quite often JM But I think Maurice holds the nudge, nudge, wink, wink, crown This has gone way off topic, can't even blame Fireman Sam this time there'll be big trouble in the morning........................... Good job the Mods are asleep
  8. Come on JM, that's straight out of the MM joke book!
  9. Yes and no JM Beer delivered from Mallinsons but the arm is getting some exercise Piling on the weight too. like everyone I need to get out!
  10. I don't think it's about getting the tape measure out or working out can I go to A or B. The idea is that we stay at home and go out for essential shopping or exercise. You are only supposed to travel for education, work, medical appointments etc. I know everyone is desperate to get out (me included) but until the end of the month we are not supposed to make non essential journeys which a trip in a day boat probably is. I think Herbert Woods are pushing it really and encouraging people to stretch the rules. I haven't been in the pub since the end of November so I guess I can wait a few more weeks. But rest assured I will make the most of it when it's opened up
  11. Or have a word with Paul at Swancraft - contact details on the sponsors panel at the side.
  12. I would say local means your locality. Say for example you lived in Brundall - Strumpshaw might be OK but Norwich or Yarmouth probably not unless for education or business etc. The five miles is probably a good example even if it's not enshrined in law I bet the police or courts would view it as reasonable.
  13. ha ha!! nice try Mr Fire sir. No, they've been cracking on in the land of the ferrets and getting down to the youngsters so just had it done. Although I was a bit peeved that Mrs Nog who is younger than me got in first but all down to her afore mentioned keyboard skills.
  14. Forgot to mention that, yes you need to be very quick on the draw. Fortunately Mrs Nog has RSA umpteen and is nearly as fast on the keyboard as she is at approaching the bar and ordering a double gin particularly if I'm paying. Anecdotal evidence would seem to suggest that direct contact from surgeries in these parts is quite rare. All seems to be letter and self book.
  15. I don't know if this has been mentioned - (don't want to trawl through the whole thread) but if you go on the online booking system and get allocated a centre umpteen miles away or a date you don't like, try refreshing it. Mrs Nog was persistent for quite a good few minutes but ended up getting a local centre just a few minutes away on the bus and an appointment for the next day. I cancelled my appointment and re-did it and got a much better date and time. Of course the system is steam driven up here in flat hat land but the same principle may apply. Worth trying. Glad to see young Jean is with us too
  16. Notice that Beccles most celebrated resident is curiously reticent on this topic
  17. Mrs Nog loved it in there. My wallet certainly felt the pinch!!
  18. Thankfully they didn't get to bulldoze the Caxton Club in the process Ignore that bit, crossed with BTR
  19. yes, I think as folks have observed we can't be 100% certain what's in store for us. Hopefully we'll be OK this time. I approached Bridgecraft last year with a view to hiring in December and February which they were happy with in principle but of course it never happened. However I remain hopeful for this winter!!!
  20. Herbert Woods have always hired all year apart from December and January. I guess they'll likely do the same, Covid permitting. I believe Brooms and Ferry have done and may again. I also am keeping fingers and everything crossed that the excellent Bridgecraft may consider some winter hire for trusted clients
  21. I'm quite interested in how it will work, assume table service? Will you need to book? Social distancing? Pent up demand? I'm in the starting blocks already!
  22. I do hope JM is prepared and has warned his neighbours too!!
  23. Adjustment wise absolutely not JM But house prices...........
  24. I think generally speaking (but not always) if you move from the South (i.e. below Norfolk) then the price differential works well. If you move South to Norfolk e.g. from flat hat land then it doesn't!! (unless you live in York, Harrogate or Richmond of course)
