  1. Don't worry, threads on here have a habit of going off topic, confuses the best of us and especially me!!!
  2. Glad to see you supporting the local hostelries Mr Fire Sir. Next stop the Commodore eh? Don't forget to give JM a wave
  3. I've heard of restrictions going up to West Somerton where it is prone to weeds but not up to Hickling. Seems a bit over cautious. I think electric boats are more vulnerable but Herbert Woods are all diesel as far as I know.
  4. I don't think there are many places to moor in that area although I seem to remember there is a little 'cove' on the left going upstream. I wonder if it had drifted before it sank?
  5. ...or even better became a sponsor!
  6. I would agree, passage through Potter Heigham is pretty rare these days and given conditions at the moment probably best to have a plan B. You could hire a day boat but given the time available maybe save that one for another holiday!
  7. In case anyone was wondering (like me) this is about half a mile downstream of the junction with Oulton Dyke. Good to hear it's been moved out of the channel. Wonder what it was?
  8. Out of curiosity what's the car parking situation at Ranworth? I know there is a parking area at the staithe but what about the one opposite the Maltsters? Is that for the pub only I wonder?
  9. That was quick!! Thanks folks They are probably not around in winter I guess. Neither are particularly small. If they have reserved moorings I can see fun and games particularly in summer. If they have reserved signs on the moorings I can see them being ignored. I wonder if this has been thought through. Mind you I wonder if there will be a ranger there in summer? This is going to be interesting.
  10. I can't place either of these craft, anyone got a photo handy?
  11. Just wondering which Elysian? If its this one or I think there is a less common 34 foot version. If it is this type, we hired one once. If memory serves it was very easy to nip out of the side, particularly with the canopy down. If I remember rightly there is no rear exit but they are small boats and very easy to handle. If I'm thinking of the wrong boat I do apologise! My favourite design is the centre cockpit Alphacraft and although that has a rear door I find it easier and quicker to hop over the side if the canopy is down. As others have said mooring on a poontoon is easier because they are at the optimum height. We always try to get on the pontoon at Oulton Broad in winter and it makes life much easier.
  12. Hmmmmmm, interesting. Twenty five quid would probably equate to Mrs Nog's hourly gin consumption If a family say wanted to go on the bikes (I think there is a minimum height) but say 2 teenagers, that's 100 quid. A dayboat in York maybe 60 - 70 but you could get 6 on board. Sounds good fun though, I'd consider giving it a go
  13. Positively tropical today Jean! Just wait till December!! For a drop of Humpty Dumpty I'd sit out in my underwear - no, on second thoughts.....
  14. Glad to see you Mr Fire sir. I thought for a minute there had been another lockdown in Pontypandy. Thanks for the updates, keep up the good work
  15. You should see the cost of hiring a day boat in York! puts 25 quid in the shade!
  16. Fireman Sam is keeping a low profile so I hope he wont mind a few more updated entries. Very basic details only. I would strongly recommend giving the pubs a bell particularly if making a special trip. Facebook seems to be the favoured medium for most so probably worth checking their page for latest update. All info given in good faith! Johnson has given the green light today so should be all systems go! 17. Bit on the high side at Brundall too!
  18. The last thing I want to do is tread on Fireman Sam's toes after his stirling work. However I've had a stab at populating the Northern pubs with some info. Thought I'd try this for starters, time for a beer though Monday 12th April North Rising Sun, Coltishall tel 01603 737440 www.risingsuncoltishall.co.uk plus Facebook Recruiting Sergeant, Coltishall www.recruitingsergeant.co.uk to book a table outside please email nicola@recruitingsergeant.co.uk or call 01603 737077 Kings Head, Hoveton Tel 01603 782429 Booking via website www.greeneking-pubs.co.uk/pubs/norfolk/kings-head-hotel Fur & Feather, Woodbastwick 01603 720003 Book via website www.woodfordes.com/the-fur-feather-restaurant-brewery-tap The Maltsters, Ranworth 01603 270900 www.ranworthmaltsters.co.uk also on Facebook Swan Inn, Horning Tel 01692 630316 Book via Website www.vintageinn.co.uk/restaurants/east/theswaninnhorning The Lion, Thurne will only be taking bookings via telephone - 01692 671806 (in order to explain procedures) www.thelionatthurne.com Bridge Inn, Acle 01493 750288 www.aclebridge.co.uk on Facebook Ferry Inn, Stokesby 01493 751096 And on Facebook The White Horse, Neatishead 01692 630828 www.thewhitehorseinnneatishead.com and on Facebook Sutton Staithe Hotel, Sutton Staithe 01692 580244 www.suttonstaithehotel.co.uk and on Facebook Cross Keys, Dilham 01692 536398 The Greyhound, Hickling 01692 598306 www.greyhoundinn.com on Facebook Swan Inn, Stalham 01692 582829 www.adnams.co.uk/locations/swan-inn-stalham
  19. Excellent idea Mr Grendel sir. Perhaps even a website if some are taking booking that way? I suspect that it would be very prudent to give a pub a bell anyway particularly if you are making a special trip.
  20. I'm probably talking through my hat as usual but could you have a sort of 'sound check' before the quiz starts? Say whoever is running the quiz could log on and have a volunteer to check everything is working OK before it goes live? Mrs Nog has been having Zoom meetings for work and I know she has had issues connecting etc - when you're relying on 'tinternet it's all very prone to gremlins. I don't know if the chat room is open 24/7 but say if Fireman Sam would be up having another go next week he could maybe enrol say Jean and Lindz for a dummy run just to check everything is working???? Another thought and I'm not technical as you know, but does the chat room run slower the more folk are logged on? The anticipation of Fireman Sam in action could have caused a Glastonbury Ticket style meltdown!!!
  21. Glad you're OK Mr Fire sir. Possibly you're on Virgin Media or on the cusp of the wet string service up here in ferret land
  22. Aw, that's a shame, with all the build up too. Also hope Fireman Sam is OK.
  23. Well? Did Jean win? Its all gone very quiet!
  24. Plus me and Mrs Nog a couple of times. We've been there in winter nursing a hangover. I wouldn't fancy going in during the summer though!
  25. Just been looking at the map - looks like a drive to/through job. Its a bit up from the station so away from the main town. Don't suppose I'll be tempted to stagger in after a visit to the Red Lion I suspect it will do very well though.
