  1. Sorry, I have to disagree Alan and it's probably the only time I ever will. This guy hates hire boats and probably any other un desirable persons. He has got serious issues. The only pub in many years of Broads boating I've been kicked out of before I even got in. I will not be going back even if I went on foot so he could not see where I had come from. Sorry.
  2. That's true, never thought of that.
  3. Swancraft always had a condition that no cats were allowed on their boats. I can't recall if I ever asked why - I guess maybe cats tend to scratch so there were maybe concerns about the seating etc. Bridgecraft have their own resident cat on the yard which quite happily will jump on and off the boats to be fussed. I think cats are naturally wary of water. A confident cat may be OK but I would think twice about taking a timid one who might shoot. I suppose if given time to acclimatise and kept under surveillance it might be OK. I think one of the original mods (long gone) on the site brought a cat on board. Our own cat is extremely timid so we leave her at home and a friend pops in to look after her.

  5. Up here among the ferrets it was possible to rent a 'private let' but I don't know if that would apply in Norfolk. Councils will have different policies, probably based on demand.
  6. Good idea. Just a small point though, buses that run along there finish around 7pm unless things have changed. A cab wouldn't cost a fortune though. I've a feeling Fireman Sam has walked it, I'd certainly have a go although Mrs Nog might not be so keen!! Brundall is a good bet and the trains run quite late.
  7. That is a good idea - a Housing Association/Council garage would probably be cheaper than a storage unit - slight downside is that up here in flat cap land they tend to get broken into, not sure if you could get any insurance. Would be cheaper for a longer term solution I would imagine. I'm wondering what sort of size exactly is needed though, are we talking wardrobe, large cupboard, garden shed, garage?? I wonder if a friendly pub or boatyard might be willing to provide a corner in one of their outbuildings. Wouldn't work if round the clock access is needed though.
  8. Doesn't give much away but this is it. Its a 'public' page so assume its OK to reproduce it here. Hemsby Broads Rescue was paged today at 1600 to reports that a vessel had sunk on Little Broad Hoveton, with persons in the water. Also paged were Bacton and Winterton Coastguard teams. With a full crew and all the appropriate equipment for this type of job, we proceeded to Hoveton with our Broads Rescue unit. On route, we were pleased to learn from Humber Coastguard, that the persons in the water, with assistance from the Broads Authority, had been pulled to safety and that representatives from the boatyard were also on scene and had full control of the situation. With no life in danger and everyone being safe and well both Hemsby and the Coastguard teams were stood down. We returned to base and were back on service by 1700. Thanks to all the crew who attended the incident and to the crew members who remained at the station to help with the clean down and preparation for the next emergency.
  9. Yes, it's on Twitter too. Wonder what the story is behind that?
  10. I would agree, there's been the odd incident but a very small percentage given the number of boats that moor there. Given a choice I would maybe try to avoid Friday and Saturday but it's not critical.
  11. Apparently the pump out machine is out of action and awaiting repair. No timescale given.
  12. So glad you had s good day and big thumbs up for the wine vaults

    Pubs

well done pubs need our support more than ever now.
  14. Glad you cancelled White Lion, sadly some less considerate folk don't bother. Taxis in Norfolk and Suffolk not same as in towns - often very small firms and not able to be as flexible Wine Vaults sounds a good plan and ypu should be OK to walk, I'd have thought about 15 mins Please let us know how you get on
  15. If the tide starts to drop you could have a few hours to get there and back - agree with John though - a taxi won't be so keen to go to the Locks - long un made track.
  16. What's the height of your Boat Ruthie? Should be a plate near the wheel
  17. Don't think they do - for beer the Caxton Club is far and away the best bet but it's a members club - mind you they let me in I've not been in the Wine Vaults personally but I've had recommendations from several sources. Ruthe - have a good time whatever you decide. If you have booked the White Lion and do decide not to go I'm sure that you'll ring them to let them know
  18. Take it you mean the White Lion? Never been in but looks to have good reviews. Why not give them a bell? Ask what time they open and more importantly when they close as things vary now. They can probably recommend a taxi too. Book it (taxi) as soon as you can to take you there and back. They could even drop you off at one of the places mentioned for a drink and its not far back to the yacht station. I don't think the taxi will be a fortune in the grand scheme of things.
  19. ..........doing a quick Google looks like B and B may be closed??? Get your wellies out and go in the Wetherspoons, its cheap anyway!!!
  20. rules out the Wetherspoons then I'd go for the Bear and Bells. Not sure about the grub though.
  21. I'll stand to be corrected of course but isn't this now a pizza parlour? There's something like a British Legion but that will be members, Caxton Arms a bit further on. Ruling out a taxi or a long walk I'd have thought the Bear and Bells would be best bet. The Butchers Arms is an excellent pub but that IS a long walk!!!
  22. Unfortunately nothing much near the yacht station - I think the nearest pub would be the Bear and Bells - I've a suspicion your short walk means short! Bear and Bells is maybe 10 minutes? There's the Caxton Arms bit further or the Wetherspoons in the centre. Shame your not keen on the taxi though. Good luck whatever you decide!
  23. Thank you JF sir, I thought it looked like a disco so that makes sense. Been in once but didn't stay long (after the revamp) Saves head scratching
  24. True, but you have the benefit of being a knowledgeable and experienced licensee - many experienced landlords have turned their backs on the trade and pub Co's seem to rely more and more on newcomers who don't have the experience or the benefit of good advice. Hence the high level of churning in the trade.
