  1. I'm a member of that Forum. Very helpful. Just a quick search - it does look to be a four track three speed machine. Therefore the tapes need to be played on a 4 track, they wouldn't work on a 2 track. I might be able to help
  2. Carol uses Video Impact in Loddon for her old films. Not sure if they do tapes. If you don't get a better offer it's possible I may be able help. I'll drop you a PM this evening.
  3. Problem with any old tape recorders is the drive belts and rubber idlers which have usually deteriorated. It's very unlikely they will work properly unless they have been restored. I think the road to go would be get someone with a good machine to transfer them for you. Would you know if it's recorded in 2 or 4 track and what speed? Doesn't matter if not. Where do you live (roughly) PS good clear photo of the machine would help
  4. I might try to get to Beccles next time. Question though Simon, is the YS just staffed in the mornings in the winter - the same as Oulton Broad?
  5. Lovely stretch of river, I've never been down there in winter. Nice one. One of Fireman Sam's favourite gaffs. Glad to hear it's dog friendly too
  6. Visit to the Locks Simon? Be interested to hear your report!
  7. I always moor in front of the pub anyway - shorter staggering distance
  8. Good isn't it Simon! Snug as a bug, that's the way to do it Enjoy and looking forward to the next installment!
  9. That's exactly the point. Added to that we need to book train tickets too, so it's certainly not for every one. Very nice if you're retired but have the where with all too!!
  10. It does seem to be a more recent phenomenon - the simple explanation would seem to be supply is outstripping demand particularly at quieter times. Perhaps better to have boats out earning a crust. Problem is it does create dissatisfaction. Thorny one.
  11. I suppose the argument is that if you book a year in advance you can get the exact boat you want on the exact date you want. For us that is quite important as we like to go at specific times. Also Mrs Nog only has limited holiday which must be booked in advance and we need to book train tickets too. We booked with Bridgecraft for next year as soon as we returned the boat. I think these offers are great if you can take holidays at short notice and can be flexible with your boat choice. For example I think the ex Swancraft boats at Richardson's are understandably very popular and if you want one you need to book far in advance. In his book Robin Godber said that "discounting is death" Interesting one! I can see the point of view though.
  12. Have good one Helen, lots of piccies please! Watch out for the San Miguel bottles
  13. Indeed! And none of that dry January nonsense either!
  14. Ignore thar bit, can't delete it Great holiday tale and excellent photos JF Very pleased that you've been supporting the local hostelries too
  15. That's interesting, I've always maintained a good heating system is key. Looks like the Webasto is fine now. I've said before, Swancraft heating was brilliant and no issues with Bridgecraft either. Good to hear about the duvets too. When I wake up in the morning I nip out of bed, flick the heating on and put the kettle on too. Back under the duvets and by the time the kettle's boiled the boat is starting to warm up. On a well maintained boat there shouldn't be a need to start the engine. Snug as a bug
  16. Sounds like the heating system is well up to scratch In all the years going out in December and February we've never plugged in once. You'll be absolutely fine
  17. I think that's a very kind thought It is a very interesting discussion but maybe leave this thread to Malcolm's holiday tale?
  18. Its very mild at the moment Helen! No problem. If in doubt use double duvets. Keeps you warm even in the coldest weather. I'm assuming MS has a decent heating system? Did you mention that you are out in February too?
  19. Hi Malcolm - avoid Facebook like the plague but recognised the sight of a gleaming hull from the old hire days - they really were some of the best, if not the best, turned out boats on the Broads. I agree, as others have mentioned, Swancraft are not really geared up to do syndicate boats although I'm sure they would do an excellent job if they did. Apologies because I think we are drifting again!!!
  20. Certainly is looking good. Quality Swancraft job by any chance?
  21. Hi Nigel I'm not sure how often Carol looks at the Forum but I just wondered if it would be worth dropping her a line to see if she could help?
  22. Thanks JF Sign of a mis spent youth I suppose
