  1. Well done Berney ! A little more 'name and shame ' wouldn't come amiss!!
  2. Iron? IRON - ON HOLIDAY ???? Three weeks in a caravan requires no iron . If I were to suggest otherwise to Mrs Poppy I would have a big headache - and an egg sized bump! Some people
  3. Were all so tolerant - and friendly ! Many do, which ma be why they have the errors of their ways pointed out when on a demasting spot.
  4. Local authorities are told to maximise every 'revenue source that they can by the Government - in order to make up for the cuts resulting from... Austerity. QED!
  5. We had snow here south of Norwich this morning !
  6. I have regularly cruised for a week at a time, and also have used a touring caravan for ten days or so without redress to mains! I find it unnecessary and a pleasant alternative way to live. Whilst some may want all 'mod cons' they certainly aren't essential ( with a tiny number of exceptions). Economical use of batteries, switching off all non essential lights , using hot water produced by the engine calorifier and having showers other than first thing in the morning and so on is an alternative and just as comfortable way to live.
  7. However, motor boats are unable to carry out a similar maneuver
  8. However, provision for dismasting has been needed since boating (with wherries and keels) began.......
  9. Wrong boat for the Broads perhaps ?
  10. Not switched off, but entirely paid for by those who choose to use them !
  11. They wouldn't have to 'admit' to anything! My latest BSS certificate has a box for the examiner to tick for 12 volt and 240volt electrics if installed. It would become a simple task to identify the domestic supply installation.
  12. I certainly do not believe that ' electric boaters' should get their fuel for propulsion at no cost. It's the boater who chooses to have all the domestic electrical mod cons and entertainment aboard . Is it reasonable that the cost is shared across ALL toll payers ? I for one object strongly to any such suggestion!
  13. I agree, but electrically powered craft should be exempt. Vessels with mains electricity should be tolled accordingly to cover the cost of installation and maintenance of water side supplies!
  14. Some issues are worthy of protest....
  15. I couldn't agree more. Like it or go without I'm afraid!!
  16. A cracking little business for someone. Plenty of 'goodwill' there.
  17. For those of you who are old enough to remember, enjoy. For the rest - it's a history lesson!! Very surprising how time and memory has taken its toll. Have things really changed this much in our time? Curry was a surname. A takeaway was a mathematical problem. A pizza was something to do with a leaning tower. Bananas and oranges only appeared at Christmas time. All crisps were plain; the only choice we had was whether to put the salt on or not. A Chinese chippy was a foreign carpenter. Rice was a milk pudding, and never, ever part of our dinner. A Big Mac was what we wore when it was raining. Brown bread was something only poor people ate. Oil was for lubricating, fat was for cooking. Tea was made in a teapot using tea leaves and never green. Coffee was Camp, and came in a bottle. Cubed sugar was regarded as posh. Only Heinz made beans. Fish didn't have fingers in those days. Eating raw fish was called poverty, not sushi. None of us had ever heard of yoghurt. Healthy food consisted of anything edible. People who didn't peel potatoes were regarded as lazy. Indian restaurants were only found in India. Cooking outside was called camping. Seaweed was not a recognised food. "Kebab" was not even a word never mind a food. Sugar enjoyed a good press in those days, and was regarded as being white gold. Prunes were medicinal. Surprisingly muesli was readily available, it was called cattle feed. Pineapples came in chunks in a tin; we had only ever seen a picture of a real one. Water came out of the tap, if someone had suggested bottling it and charging more than petrol for it they would have become a laughing stock. The one thing that we never ever had on our table in the fifties .. was elbows!
  18. Thanks for the warning ! There is little I like less, that's another to avoid.
  19. Rather! That's why I sail a yacht.
  20. I would personally avoid the Reedcutters after a very poor experience two years ago !
  21. But she insists on Crocks for 100% guaranteed contraceptive efficacy
  22. And it won't be the last. http://www.greatyarmouthmercury.co.uk/news/woman-taken-to-hospital-after-being-rescued-when-boat-ran-aground-near-great-yarmouth-1-4978075
  23. I remember Potter bridge being completely blocked by a large hover on one occasion, it being held there by the tide. It couldn't be moved until 'slack water'.
  24. Not 'lush', A lush You've probably gathered by now we're all MAD !
