  1. Don't we all Peter, I blame the teachers for forcing me to go from printing to joined up writing. My written work looks as if a spider has walked across the page. Regards Alan
  2. Dear all, We have been informed by Network Rail that Somerleyton Swing Bridge is currently not operational due to the heat. We will share further updates in due course. The bridge operator can be contacted directly on 0330 858 4656 or VHF channel 12. 3. It is many years since we were last on the Caledonian Canal, Loch Ness is a special place and I doubt it has changed in centuries other than the introduction of locks at each end. just worked it out, it is over forty years when we spent a week on there, Chris & Heather's daughter was only a baby at the time. It was amazing that 4 adults and a baby could call the 25 foot boat home for the week. Regards Alan
  4. Hello Tom Welcome to the forum. I am sorry I can't be of help with the mooring advice but no doubt members of the forum should be able to offer advice.
  5. Not every train going to stop at Brundall stops at Brundall Gardens and you have to be in the correct carriage because the platform is short. (instructions are announced).
  6. Our trip from Brundall to Norwich was £8.00 return for the two of us and there is a discount for four people travelling together.
  7. There are lots of tricky locks on the Canal system, deep locks, staircase locks many of which are unmanned on the English canals unlike Scotland. The staircase locks at Bingley are manned all the time.
  8. With the great train service and buses into Norwich I can only see the need to go into the City to visit supermarkets by car, most other times public transport should fill most needs.
  9. Dear all, I thought I would forward this for your awareness. An Environment Agency flood alert is in force for the tidal River Yare from Thorpe St Andrew to Breydon Water. Flooding is possible for the tidal River Yare, from Thorpe St Andrew to Breydon Water including Brundall, Cantley, Reedham and Burgh Castle today. This message has been issued because some minor flooding to riverside roads and footpaths is likely from 2pm to 4pm, today Thursday 26 August. This is due to a natural tide locking effect. High tidal water moving up the rivers from Great Yarmouth, is currently restricting the normal drainage out to sea at low tide, of the Broads river system. We expect to see high water levels in Brundall and Reedham riverside areas. The Environment Agency are not currently expecting the situation to escalate, or to issue any further warning messages at this time. Take care on waterside roads and footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger. 13. On one of our Narrow Boat hires (6 of us) the towels supplied were clean but were were grey in colour not the white they should have been and had not been washed in fabric conditioner. We located a near supermarket and bought new towels and stowed the boatyard's towels.
  14. Sounds like a godsend, sadly with us it is a quick dash out of bed to turn on the heating, we do however leave an oil filled radiator on in those out of season weeks if required.
  15. Dear all, Blue-green algae has been reported at a number of locations in the Broads in recent days including Malthouse Broad and Black Horse Broad. Please ensure you stay out of the water at these locations and keep dogs under control in the area. Remain vigilant for signs of blue-green algae in other locations across the Broads. You can use the 'Bloomin Algae' app to report sightings and see if there have been any algal blooms recorded in your area.
