  1. Hello Neil, I enjoyed your reports of your family holiday on the Broads. What was your best experience and what amused you the most throughout your week on the water? Regards Alan
  2. Hello Lincan, Welcome to the NBN the friendly forum from Tan & myself. The last time I saw the Vulcan was at Bowness on Windermere, we were on the bank near to the bandstand, it banked with the bomb bay doors open. a great sight and fantastic sound Regards Alan
  3. Hi Monica, If you call in at the the fuel station or call in at reception someone will show you around their hireboats which are moored next to the fuel station when they are in. When we went to the Broom's open day earlier in the year we went on a factory four and a short trip on one of the latest of their hire craft. The smallest is ideal for a couple and are very well appointed. Regards Alan
  4. All the hotel chains are trying to get some of the lower priced market share these days since the introduction of the Premier Inns and their low prices. I find Wetherspoons excellent value, we have been in the one at Beccles a couple of times for meals and a drink, if you closely read the menus you can some great bargains of free or reduced prices for drinks with certain meals. We have used loads of them on our canal trips the last one being at Oxford, in that case we recieved four bottles of good quality Merlot for four of our six crew having steak which was competatively priced. The prices for stopping in their rooms looks very good and a lot better than some of the hotels we have stopped in in Norfolk at almost triple the price per night. Regards Alan
  5. Hi Iain, Sound a bit like 1980's Vauxhall Astra's there was a problem in the prduction line on the acid dip it broke down with shells being dragged out of the acid. I had a Astra estate, vertually every panel rotted even in the middle of the panels within a year. Off course Vauxhall had rot issues on there 60's and 70's cars the Crestwood and Victor was especially bad. Mind you so where many of the other makes at the time. Regards Alan
  6. Hi Bobdog, We are not tight, just careful. Iain, Your cheque in the post, now where are my stamps Regards Alan
  7. Hi Alan, So what's up with the steering? Regards Alan

  11. Hi Andrew, Being as this is your first time hiring on the Broads have you checked out the instruction video's on the Richardson's website. Links to these can be found on our information pages. Have a look at this link and curser down to the Richardson's video's and click on the links to choose from. http://www.thenorfolkbroads.net/forum/forum/7-visiting-the-broads/ Regards Alan
  12. Hi Bobdog, "And then maybe a little speaker implanted behind the ear ... "Bobdog, I can see you're in Norfolk Marine again - step away from the hardware, step away from the hardware!" I have a little voice inside my head when I get to the counter "How Much" Regards Alan
  13. Hi Jim, I have only been able to moor at the 24 hour mooring on one occasion, it has been full, taped off for repairs etc. The rise and fall can be an issue especially for lower craft. There is a reserved area for craft that can not get under the bridge but again they can struggle to get a mooring. Another issue is the noise from the road bridge. I would reserve a mooring in the Yacht Station and phone them if your plans do change. Regards Alan
  14. Its a hard life Eric! Well ok for some, sun and a cold beer, but not many boats, but I guess you will make do. Have a good holiday. Regards Alan
  15. We have a bow thruster fitted and at times it is useful for getting into tight mooring locations, but it is an aid. When I take any of our new owners out on their initiation training we practice mooring with and without the bow thruster, the reason for this is of course is that the bow thruster could fail. This did infact happen to one of owners holding station waiting to fuel up at Broom's. We are currently on our fourth one in service, but since 2011 we have always had a refurbished bow thruster ready to ship to Brundall if required. What I hate to see or even hear is when a bow thruster is used for extensive periods of time rather than a couple of seconds. There also sees to be the practice of using them to aid steering, which to me seems to be a waste of all the battery storage you have built up on your journey. Regards Alan
  16. Hi Grace, At first I thought it was about toilet humour Regards Alan
  17. Hello Arniethehead, Welcome to the NBN forum from Tan & myself. Please see the link to Herbert Woods site:- http://www.herbertwoods.co.uk/boating-holidays/our-boats/crystal-light.html Looking at the layout the only issue I can see is the height (or lack of it, sitting room only) in the bedrooms. I would take your luggage in holdalls or rucksacks. We use the Morrisons reuseable bags ourselves, they are better to fit into the boot or onto our back seat. Please report back to us how you found the boat. Don't forget to enjoy your holiday but take it easy and be safe.
  18. Hello Alex, Welcome to the NBN forum from Tan & myself. Sorry we do not have any information for you. I would search on Freeman 32 on the boat listing sites and check out similar craft, more than likely it will have been renamed. Regards Alan
  19. Hello Neil You are correct Ranworth Breeze & Southern Crusader are Private Syndicates, we looked at the options in late 2011 but decided to be self managed. It works very well for us. Regards Alan
  20. Hello Sue, Welcome to the forum and your first post from Tan & myself. Yet again a couple from up North, its a wonder Norfolk doesn't tilt over with all of us interlopers. Regards Alan
  21. Hi Monica, I have put up a link to Dan's site. Regards Alan
  22. Hello Iain, I am sure they were revamped within the last two years, I know the Gents showers were. The facilites at Beccles were susposed to be refurbished last year with a new toilet/shower block to be built onto the Yacht Station/Tourist building. Alas still waiting. Regards Alan
  23. Hi Ian, The Challenger Syndicate that had some boats on the Broads (Lightning, Thunder, Moonlight Shadow, Silver Cloud, Evening Shadow, Goosander, maybe even Blue Mist?) but mostly on the canals. The problems with this very large sydicate started around 2006 and ended in 2007 with the owner of the said syndicate spending a prison sentence for fraud. Ranworth Breeze & Souther Crusader were managed by Ranworth Marine but their early advertising did mention Challenger. Regards Alan
