  1. Hi Alan, At least you didn't say "there be dragons" only references to monsters so you might get away with it. Regards Alan
  2. As already said, get these people off of the river. The BA, Broads Beat in conjunction with the hire company should cut their holiday short and hit them where it hurts, in their pockets. With luck they will go and disrupt holiday makers elsewhere hopefully away from any waterways. Regards Alan
  3. Here is a link to the details for Silver Elegance http://www.silverlinemarine.co.uk/hirefleet/Elegance.htm Regards Alan
  4. Hi Guys, Summer Craft information posted and pinned. Regards Alan
  5. Posted Today, 02:50 PM I contacted Summercraft and received this reply from Sue Bell. We can now stop worrying about Summercraft in 2016......all is well. Hello Ian, Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The reason we are not up and running for 2016 at the moment is that we are making some changes i.e. offering more short breaks etc.and that is taking time to sort out. Please post this for me if its no trouble to you. Kind regards Sue Bell
  6. Hi Iain, What no selfie, Joking apart you need to take care of yourself and your crew. I bet it has shook you up and by the sound of it you will be left with bruises for a few weeks at least. Regards Alan
  7. Hi Neil, We are down again in early September (note to self put the date in the forum calendar). Enjoy your time on Lightning, have you been in Rosie Lee's tea garden (access in the car park)? Regards Alan
  8. Hi Stuart, Glad to have you and your team aboard. Regards Alan
  9. Hi Iain, Please tell us more when you can Regards Alan
  10. Hi Andy, Our hot water tank is like Alex And Lorna's post, if you are going to buy a new one I would get the best insulated one you can afford, our water stays hot until morning if we have had a good run or had the immersion heater on if hooked up with shore power. Regards Alan
  11. Hi Bryan, Posted Today, 02:32 PM "June is Summercraft on Gala Girl III, a boat we have had many times. Just as an aside I've been looking at the Hoseasons site for 2016 and Summercraft do not appear on it, any thoughts??" I went onto the Summercraft website and clicked on the availability of Gala Girl for 2016, it took you directly to the Hoseasons site, here is the link:- http://www.hoseasons.co.uk/boat-holidays/summercraft-summ/gala-girl-bh1182 Regards Alan
  12. Hello Carol, I had a look at your link and the photographs of Princes Mary whist in Scotland, looking on the Fettlers Wharf Marina website I see that Princes Mary has been sold. So where she has gone now is anyones guess. Regards Alan
  13. Hi Bryan, Thank you for the great report, pictures and video of your holiday. So who are you hiring with on your next visit and what is the name of the boat? Regards Alan
  14. The A47 will be closed at Postwick from tomorrow night, 8.00pm until Monday morning. Both lanes will be closed. Joy of joys! http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/a47_at_postwick_will_be_closed_again_this_weekend_for_the_final_stage_in_lifting_bridge_beams_1_4064044 Regards Alan
  15. I have just been on the Peregrine webcan and I managed to see the fluffy chicks for a change. Regards Alan
  16. Hello Bryan, There are more electric post being added to locations on the Southern Rivers, at Brammerton two additional posts each having 2 x 16 amp sockets and one 32 amp sockets. There are additional posts at Reedham and at the Loddon Staithe. I am not aware if any new posts have been added on the Northern Rivers, maybe other forum members could let us know? I know Herbert Woods operated a number of electric day boat (these were for sale a couple of years ago). To be honest unless the hulls of electric boats were made from aluminium I doubt that they would be successful. Regards Alan
  17. Hello Pete, Thank you for your information regarding your ice cream boat and welcome to the NBN forum. If we can get onto the Northern Rivers in September we will look out for you, in the meantime I wish you well with your enterprise. Regards Alan
  18. Hi Peter, That sounds about right. Why is it that in a recession the only thing that prospers is amount of bean counters Regards Alan
  19. Yes a nice boat but at £109.950 it ought to have gold plated fittings rather than brass Jon you need boats, what about this beauty? That way you can change the lid! Regards Alan
  20. Hi Roy, I am watching the recoding of the programme whilst I am typing away, one benefit I have not appreciated that Tan has commented on in the past is the tranquillity of traveling at the front of the boat, the engine can hardly be heard and the only other sounds are of the lapping of the water on the hull. I agree that canals are not for everyone, my youngest son says boring and at 4 mph even worse, we however have always managed to unwind very quickly both here and on the Broads, sadly the car journey home always comes as a sharp shock of reality. I noted when the camera paned of into the field from a bridge, needless to say there was a boat coming in the opposite direction through the bridge (it is always the case especially if the bridge is on a bend). It always surprises me the amount of stuff that is on the roofs of the live aboard boats, and the number of Dawn Craft there are on the canals. We will have to keep this recording if we are in need of inner peace. Regards Alan

    Wind!

Hi Sue, As you know boats like Southern Crusader & Ranworth Breeze (apt name) can suffer when it comes to mooring, locations like the yacht station at Beccles and Ranworth which tend to be quite open; we have had to use the centre and aft ropes when stern mooring, the wind tends to push us sideways. When it is like this we try and moor next the highest sided boat we can see moored. Regards Alan
  22. Hi Charlie, I was impressed when we went in the Wherry last year, the meals were good, the sweets (when allowed) were excelent and the drinks were good value. Regards Alan
  23. Hi Iain, I wondered how you would get on the mud weight. I hope you are safe and out of the wind, lets hope that it gets better in the week for you. Enjoy yourselves. Regards Alan
  24. Hi Mark, I think I could live with that boat as well, I like the wood and steering wheel coming through the floor is quaint. It has plenty of mode cons. I guess you look at the NYA site or are on their mailing list, I get their list most weeks, well you can dream Regards Alan
  25. Hi Bryan, It is good to see you posting again. I think you have hit the nail on he head with the hire boats that no longer have gas for cooking or heating. As you say the diesel heating just adds to your fuel bill, and running the engine to compensate for tired or undercharged batteries. Ideally you should travel a minimum of 5 hours to charge up the batteries. I can understand the reluctance of hire companies to provide shore power hook ups but that would be better for everyone concerned in my honest opinion. Regards Alan
