Enjoy the banter and if if you need any advice please do ask, a lot of the forum members may have delt with most boating issues at some time or other. Have a look at our information pages, there are listed suppliers, services and information. As MM says there no such thing as a stupid question but the answers may be interesting. We are very nosey and love pictures, so a picture of your boat would be appreciated. Regards Alan

  5. I went on the Oulton Broad website yesterday and saw that the lock gate had been refitted into the lock but work was still being done. On the webcam this morning the gate is now closed. The lock is due to be reopened today. Regards Alan
  6. In places such as Bakewell in Derbyshire the ground rents for static caravans are between £2400 and £3000, electric is on top of that. The other problem is that the caravan is only allowed to be on site for say 10 to 15 years and then you loose the right to use it, you can of course upgrade or remove the caravan from the site. I am sure other sites throughout the country have a similar policy. Regards Alan
  7. The Lord Nelson has had licensees registered since 1836. Regards Alan

  11. You are not alone, When one of my boys was quite young his grandfather took him to Manchester airport to see the planes, Granddad was telling him all about the types of planes, my son however was interested in the diggers that were at the other side of the field. When they are quite young all children want to do is dig on a beach making sand castles or damming rock pools. We still have a beach holiday each year even though the children are getting on now. Both over the years have been with us on the canals or the Broads, one appreciates an holiday when dad pays the other is just bored and bored at a maximum of 6 mph does not cut it for him. Its a good job we like the waterways. Regards Alan
  12. Looking on the Potter Heigham webcam today I see that Albion is currently moored up at Herbert Woods. Regards Alan
  13. Hi Geoff, I remember the AA & RAC patrol men on their combo's the livery was on the front & side of their sidecar which was basically a box for their service tools. There was a lot of breakdowns in those days overheating engines and hours to get to destinations, stopping for radiator to cool down meant out came the meth's stove and the miniature kettle for a brew. There is still a lot of people on the Broads that wave, I quite like it when someone in a canoe or kayak will dip their paddles at you when you have left them plenty of room and slowed down. :wave Regards Alan
  14. Hello dkns34, What about the fresh water filter, we found ours had developed a leak in the wall of the vessel, o rings on fresh water pump leaking. You will have to check the pipework in that area after the fresh water system has pressurised. The trouble with any water leakage be it on a boat or elsewhere is that water can run a long way so where it is collecting could be a long way from its source.7 Please let us know how you get on. Regards Alan
  15. Hi Jim, I do not know what it is called but in effect it is just a bracket to hold the outer tube that the linkage goes through. You should be able to cobble smoothing together that holds the tube to the correct height. Maybe you could use pipe brackets, he is a link to show you what I mean. https://www.colglo.co.uk/productlist.php?category=Brass_and_Copper_Pipe_Rings_and_Clips Regards Alan

Hello Polly, Thank you for posting this topic, I am sure it will have all owners looking at their procedures and will also make hirers aware of the benefits of wearing the life jackets they are provided with. We are now getting into the season and already a number of fatalities have been sadly reported. Regards Alan
  18. Hi Alex & Lorna just a little to keep your spirits up. We tend to wave at most people whether they like it or not. The children on the day boats seem to appreciate the attention more than anyone. Regards Alan Sorry Alex, I have just deleted your double post, but for some reason it deleted both.
  19. Hello Alan. Welcome to the forum. Regards Alan & Tan
  20. Here are five riddles that were sent to me. 1. A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose between three rooms. The first is full of raging fires, the second is full of assassins with loaded guns, and the third is full of lions that haven't eaten in 3 years. Which room is safest for him? 2. A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for over 5 minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go out together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together. How can this be? 3. What is black when you buy it, red when you use it, and grey when you throw it away ? 4. Can you name three consecutive days without using the words Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday? 5. This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious as to just how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so ordinary and plain that you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is highly unusual though. Study it and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd but if you work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching! THE ANSWERS TO ALL FIVE THE RIDDLES ARE BELOW: Answers: 1. The third room Lions that haven't eaten in three years are dead. That one was easy, right? 2. The woman was a photographer. She shot a picture of her husband, developed it, and hung it up to dry (shot; held under water; and hung). 3. Charcoal, as it is used in barbecuing. 4. Sure you can name three consecutive days, yesterday, today, and tomorrow! 5. The letter "e" which is the most common letter used in the English language, does not appear even once in the paragraph. How did you do? Regards Alan
