  3. Hello Kingfisher666, Not all the syndicates operate the same. On the Southern Crusader Syndicate for example you can buy shares by week number, this means you get the same week every year (there is a slight shuffle in the dates ever 5 to 7 years to allow for calendar catch up). Regards Alan
  4. To be honest we prefer the Blofield chippy. Regards Alan
  5. Hello Mouldy, I am glad to hear that you are enjoying your your new found membership of one of the Broads Syndicates. No doubt after a couple of visits aboard your boat you will have wondered why not taken the plunge years ago. Tan & I have been members of our syndicate now for 18 years and have never regretted buying into our syndicate, we even bought another share last year. Regards Alan

  7. Hello smitch6, Just make sure that you use smooth walled pipe rather than any ribbed pipe or you may find yourself replacing it within a few years. Regards Alan
  8. Looking on the Broads Authority website the tide tables look correct. I tend to use them by preference because of the indication of the height of the low water for passing through Great Yarmouth. Regards Alan

  11. Hello Thiswan, Welcome to the forum. Regards Alan
  12. Well I had a look at the the various questions and to be honest I could not see point of many of the questions, ideally one of the questions should have been about what National Parks you had visited or if you lived in a National Park area your perceptions and limitations. Regards Alan
  13. Hello Herman, Welcome to the forum. Regards Alan
  14. Hi Matt, to be honest I am in two minds with regards to having the boat cleaned. On one hand it does save you from all the time and work involved, it takes me about 3 hours to fully clean the boat outside with considerable less time to clean the inside. On the other hand if you do not clean and inspect the outside of the boat you do not appreciate the condition of the boat, what gelcoat repairs are required in the winter service or what are just surface marks that can be removed with a bit of work. I also believe that as owners of a boat, we should take some pride in its appearance and do our best to keep it as pristine as possible. Leaving the cleaning to a third party (we have all used them from time to time) is the easy step, a bit like renting an hire-craft. We have some of our owners that used to hire and cleaned the boats as soon as they got aboard. We currently leave it to our owners to engage a cleaner or do the cleaning themselves. Regards Alan
  15. Thank you David for your informative blog of your allocation on Goosander and the pictures of your adventures aboard. Regards Alan
  16. Hi Grace, The advert is by Aldi and features Kevin the Carrott. The advert is a cross between the Coke Cols advert and the Italian Job. Regards Alan
  17. Hi Helen, I would be surprised if Coke-Cola does not get that advert pulled! Regards Alan
  18. Hello Longjohn, Welcome to the forum. Being as you are hiring a boat for the early part of the season, ask your boatyard what heating arrangements are aboard, are there backup heaters for any failure of the heating. Out of season we always take a couple of hot water bottles to air the bed before retiring, we also take a large fleece with us to put over the duvet, this keeps you warm but if there is condensation it forms on the fleece that can be easily dried during the day. We have on-board potatoes, sausages, bacon and those bacon joints with a good date on them as a back up, in case we find any pubs closed or opening short hours. When on shore power we tend to have a small oil filled radiator on overnight with the stat turned to a lower level, this helps with the condensation and keeps the boat aired. Regards Alan
  19. Hello Michelle, I have welcomed you to the forum in another topic. With regards to syndicate/boat share this is great for people who are still working or have limited holidays available to use. I have spoken to people who have had their own boats and struggle to get to their boats, some have gone down the syndicate route as a cheaper option. We bought our first share in the Ranworth Breeze Syndicate in 2000 and were the second weeks allocation to be used in 2001 the year of its launch, we only bought our second share last year and always use our allocations. Being on the water is something we have done since 1974 when we took our first narrow boat holiday, we still have an occasional narrow boat holiday when we can arrange to get all of crew available. The Broads is ideal for the two of us. We are down the first week of December. Regards Alan Chairman & Trustee Ranworth Breeze Boat Syndicate
  20. Hello Michelle, Welcome to the forum, I see you are another syndicate boat owner. Regards Alan
  21. Hello smitch6, Is it the windlass handle you require or the complete windlass and handle? If it is just the handle then Boulters stock them. Regards Alan
  22. According to Dan Horners website the last year of hiring for Walklin Cruisers of Loddon was in 1987. Regards Alan
