  1. Hello Vaughan, To be honest most good tradesmen will always do the same. Regards Alan
  2. Hi Russell, To give you an idea the Ranworth Breeze management fee in January was £700 for a two weeks share, all in no sinking fund or charges for winter service , I believe Moonlight Shadow & Lightning is around £1450 to £1500 for a 4 weeks share. Regards Alan
  3. Or may be an up to date joke book Regards Alan
  4. Hello Russell, As you be aware the forum has a wealth of forum members from most if not all of the boat syndicates on the Norfolk Broads. The syndicates are slightly different in the way they are managed, some are by owners committee's, others are managed by a Management Company. There are single week, 2 week allocations,or 4 week dependent on the type of syndicate. My advice would be check out all the styles of boats, look in detail at the contracts, your commitment with regards to the management fees, winter service fees or sinking fund(if applicable). If you want any advice by all means contact me. Regards Alan Alan Hood Chairman & Trustee Ranworth Breeze Boat Syndicate
  5. We often talked on the phone or by emails, being both from an electrical trade background, sadly we never met. He was always in our thoughts and we dedicated the Broadscot lounge in his memory. Regards Alan
  6. We all know that good well seasoned hardwoods are hard to get and cost a fortune. I not know if it has changed but the price always used to be in cost per cubic inch. Regards Alan
  7. Hello Kezolah, Welcome to the NBN forum. Regards Alan
  8. The Fair Diplomat boat were a cheaper version of Southern Crusader without the stainless ropes between the stainless rails, the stairs and bathing platform were just the mouldered version. More than likely the engine would be 40 or 50 BHP version. We have already covered the fact that the hull and superstructure were reduced in the build to enable the boats to get under Ludham Bridge on the correct tides. I would like to see what effect the cutting down of boats height has effected the look of the inside of the boat. Regards Alan
  9. Maybe its just me but I have always preferred the original cat eyes, as with anything they have to be maintained, they were a godsend in fog. Regards Alan
  10. Hello Alan, We always change the gas bottles at the same time as he activator use by date, you usually get a couple of years on them when the kits are purchased. We have four auto life jackets on Ranworth Breeze and change the cartridges and activators at the same time and leave one of the old kits as standby. Regards Alan
  11. Hughie Green once landed his plane at fairly local airstrip at Apperknowle (Dearbyshire) due to bad weather back in the day, my cousins lived in the small village. Regards Alan Hood

  13. Hi Alan, Yes Tom is doing the work on the heating , he also supplied our new bow thruster last year. Regards Alan
  14. Ranworth Breeze was lifted today for its Winter Service, it is currently in the old BMS workshop now run by NYA. Currently the boat is being compounded & polished to highlight any gelcoat repairs that need doing and the bathing platform rubbers are being replaced. A powered winch is being fitted and the heating replaced because of cracks in the heating casting made it too costly to repair. Regards Alan
  15. Hi Alan, We used Alan May for our BSS inspection last year. Tel. 07833657570 Regards Alan
  16. Hello Frank, Welcome to the forum. Regards Alan
  17. Hi Grendel, The test center I use, is in the middle of a range of these humps. In the last four years I have had two sets of drop links and had to replace the broken front coil springs. Regards Alan
  18. Yes the new roundabouts cambers have a lot to be desired, not only in Norfolk but elsewhere in the country. Regards Alan
  19. Dear all, Flood alerts are again in place today Wednesday 9 January for the tidal River Waveney from Ellingham to Breydon Water (including Beccles Quay, Oulton Broad, Somerleyton, St Olaves, Haddiscoe and Belton) and tidal River Yare, from Thorpe St Andrew to Breydon Water (including Brundall, Cantley, Reedham and Burgh Castle). High water levels may last for a few days until the effect of the high tides at Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft this week have passed. This is due to the natural tide locking effect of high tidal waters moving up the rivers yesterday from Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft that restricts the normal drainage out to sea of the Broads river system at low tide. The Environment Agency are not currently expecting the situation to escalate on either of the rivers. For more information please visit the Flood Warning Information Service website: https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/warnings Kind regards, Tom Tom Waterfall Digital Communications Officer 01603 756034
  20. Dear All Urgent Boating News - The flood alerts for the tidal River Waveney and tidal River Yare have been upgraded to a Flood Warning. Flooding is expected for isolated low lying properties along the River Waveney and River Yare. There is a possibility of minor flooding to riverside roads and footpaths between 11am today, Tuesday 8 January, and 11am tomorrow, Wednesday 9 January. Areas most at risk are in St Olaves, Somerleyton, Burgh St Peter, Oulton Broad, Beccles, Reedham, Cantley and Brundall. More information is available at https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/warnings. Kind Regards Laura Milner Administrative Officer Operations Broads Authority Tel: 01603 756035 Broads Authority, Yare House, 62-64 Thorpe Road. Norwich NR1 1RY 01603 610734 It has been reported to me this morning that the moorings at Tingdene Marina (Brundall) that all the ramp walkways to the floating pontoons are now operating uphill and there is flooding getting down to the Marina. Regards Alan
  21. Over many years of driving in the peak district, I have always ha chains. grips or in later years snow tyres. I have always got home, but drifts often dictate a different route. Regards Alan
  22. None that I can remember Steve. When we sacked our old management company back in 2011 we looked at and approached BCBM as an alternative management company but we decided that the £6000.00 plus per year required would be better off spent on the boat. Regards Alan
  23. Like Matt we bought into Ranworth Breeze in 2001 after looking for a Narrow Boat syndicate, we run on similar lines to Thunder and the other syndicates, but like all the syndicates have slight differences on the way they are run. We paid just under £8,000 for a share and the fees at that time were around £300.00 at that time, by 2011 (the last year with a management company) the fees were £980.00 per share. Our management fees last year were £650 and for 2019 are £700, the boat has never been better maintained or upgraded. Most syndicate members will tell people that they should have bought into a syndicate years ago, but will advise people that syndicates are not for everyone. At the end of the day the choice is yours and you should go down the route that rocks your boat. Regards Alan
