  1. Same here David, on the southern rivers from 12th to 19th September. I will keep my eyes peeled. Regards Alan
  2. Hi Charlie, Just a few more boats and you will have the good base to make a Bailey's Bridge. Regards Alan
  3. Hello Vaughan, I would assume that the 32 amp sockets (one on every post) was meant for charging boats that needed more power for their installations. Regards Alan
  4. The debate about what is greener, petrol, diesel or electric is a complicated topic, there are some camps that suggest that the charging of batteries for electrical drives be they on the water or on roads causes more pollution than using fossil fuels. I have no doubt if a real green solution became available it would quashed. Regards Alan
  5. Hi Peter, Are there any electric boats on the Broads these days? by all accounts the small day boats that Herbert Woods had for hire were not a great success. Regards Alan
  6. Hi Colin, From that report I had not realised that Gary also had to get the girls teenage sister to safety who had also gone into the river to save her younger sister. Regards Alan
  7. Hello Dave, Here is a link to arrange a lift for the two bridges the contact phone number is 01493 335 522 it might be an idea to give them a call to see when the issue is resolved. http://www.eastportuk.co.uk/bridge-lifts.aspx Regards Alan
  8. Hi Roy, I have amended your post above with details I know of, best of luck with your list. Regards Alan
  9. Here is a link to the report:- http://www.edp24.co.uk/business/boats-and-moulds-up-for-sale-after-administrators-called-in-to-alphacraft-1-5159544 Regards Alan
  10. Dear All Urgent Boating News - The Authority has been informed that Haven Bridge (Great Yarmouth Port) is currently not operational. Kind Regards Laura Milner Administrative Officer Operations Broads Authority Tel: 01603 756035
  11. Some of the hire narrow boats on adjacent canals to rivers such as the Seven & Trent still have anchors in their well decks for use on flooded rivers. Regards Alan
  12. Hi Charlie, I thought they had the electric posts there? Regards Alan
  13. I thought the story of Gary a true Broads hero was somewhat marred by the inclusion of the good doctor in the report. It took a great deal of guts to dive into the water to save the little girl who fell into the river at the side of the boat.It was lucky that the tide was coming in at the time. Yarmouth and Reedham must be the two worst areas to go into the water with there fast moving tides It is a stark reminder to all to make sure that we have our life-jackets and to wear them. Regards Alan
  14. Tan was also caught speeding up river from Acle, it was in the early days and Tan was doing under 6 mph according to instruments, but as the B.A. pointed out there was a 1.5 mph running tide. We all make mistakes at times, we are all human, well some of us are Regards Alan
  15. Hi Mark, I can never understand why the Broads Authority have not reduced the speed limit were you are moored from 6 to 5 mph, the 5 mph section just after the Ferry House Inn almost extends halfway to Bramerton? There doesn't seem rhyme nor reason to it. Regards Alan
  16. Our thoughts on the tribute were that a lot of it had been filmed earlier, maybe as a 90th birthday program. it was a good production. His timing was spot on and his way with dealing with people making them feel at ease was exemplary. Sadly his era of entertainers is now coming to an end, how many of the so called stars of today will still be around in 75 years. Regards Alan
  17. Hi Ian, I watched that as well, it brought back many memories, I liked Bruce but maybe he should have kept some of jokes to himself. Regards Alan
  18. Hello David, It is all down to which area of the Southern Broads you wish to visit first. You could go straight across Breydon and head for St Olaves and on towards Somerleyton, Beccles and Oulton Broads. If you are going to moor at Beccles or Oulton Broad yacht stations you had better book a mooring. Alternatively you could branch off once over Breydon (right hand down a bit) past the Berney Arms and onto Reedham, you could go down the river Chet (into Loddon about an hours journey) or continue towards Brundall, there are a number of entrances into Rockland Broad the inlet to the staithe is almost hidden, but there are good moorings with the New Inn just across the road from the staithe. There are 24 hour moorings just through Brundall, a path takes you up to the village. The Ferry House Inn at Surlingham is well worth a visit, again I would book a mooring. Onto Bramerton Common (the 24 hour moorings) or just past to the Waters Edge (very good meals here but not pub grub)you can also book a mooring. You can get all the way into Norwich and there are moorings at the yacht station. Regards Alan
  19. Hi Peter, We use the supermarket bags for life to put all our stuff in Tan is limited to four of these, sadly I also have two of these full with bits and pieces for doing repairs on the boat, spares for this spares for that etc. Well at least four bags fold flat out of the way. Bye the way what's an hair dryer Regards Alan
  20. I see that you have 3 chandlers in Preston and also one in Warrington sadly as you say the cheapest is £103. Have you stripped down the pump? If the motor is good they do a service kit which includes all the seals and a impeller for less than £20.00. Regards Alan
  21. I remembers years ago I bought a penknife in Fowey, I have forgotten the price, but it was extra for the box of plasters, I guess we never learn. Regards Alan
  22. Hello Malc, Welcome to the forum. Yes the BroadScott Lounge is the ideal place to post your topic. Please tell us a bit about yourself, we tend to be a friendly but nosy group. Regards Alan
  23. Hello Andrew, I am sorry to hear that, I do hope that you can find someone to crew for you. Regards Alan
  24. Hi Carole, The phone number is 01502 589843 Regards Alan
