  2. Dear All Urgent Boating News - Red buoys on Upton Dyke. Further details below;- Kind Regards Laura Milner Administrative Officer Operations Broads Authority Tel: 01603 756035 Broads Authority, Yare House, 62-64 Thorpe Road. Norwich NR1 1RY 01603 610734 www.broads-authority.gov.uk Red Buoys on Upton Dyke As a result of recent flood defence works, the piles along the true right bank of Upton Dyke have been pushed into the bed and the bank regraded. The result is the dyke is wider, however in some areas the bank is quite shallow. Red buoys have been positioned along the edge of the widened shallow bank while vegetation establishes. Red buoys are port hand markers and therefore mariners approaching the staithe should keep the markers to the port side.
  3. Hi John, We went on a narrow boat in 1974 it was £295.00 which included the fuel deposit for a 56 foot 10 berth boat with 6 of us on board. In 1974 this was very costly, I think you would have found a price on the Broads at a similar level. These days the hire costs on the Broads is the cheapest of any other UK waterways. Regards Alan

  5. I have always found that with twisted or bowed hardwood, you can do all that has been suggested above, but in the end you will always end up with a imperfect job. Regards Alan

  8. We traveled back from Devon yesterday, the maximum temperature was 32 degrees and we managed to get home in 5 and half hours with a stop, the air conditioning in the car was working overtime. No rain on the journey and when we got home it was still 27 degrees. There was a few spots of rain around 6.00pm but that was it. Regards Alan

  10. Hi Robin, Just the way I do it on the boat, sausages always taste better `when oven cooked, you can remove the label and lid off of the bean or tinned tomatoes can and also cook those in the oven. Regards Alan
  11. Hi Jeff, It has clips on the top of the navigation light and a crew at the bottom, the cover needs to be lifted from the bottom. It could be that someone has put some sealant around the cover, preventing it being able to lift it off, if this is the case you will need to get any sealant off first. Regarding changing the lamp, if you go for a LED substitute then I would change both to keep the light output levels the same. Regards Alan

  16. Hi Simon, Great pictures of the boat, the island bed looks good but that fake four poster arrangement must be a nightmare to keep clean and no doubt those two posts will catch everyone out on the trips to the loo in the night. The gas pipe to the cooker surely could have been run better rather than being in full show. Regards Alan
  17. You all deserve forum warning points, poor old Iain must be cringing up there. Regards Alan
  18. Back in the late sixties/early seventies we only had 10 bob to get in the drinks in and get some chips (in our case fishcakes) so we just stayed local during the week and ventured into town only at the weekend. This was back in the day of platform boots, crushed velvet flares and Ben Sherman shirts, we thought we were the bees knees, never enough money, so we were never too drunk, I used to be the banker and bought all the drinks out of the kitty (apart from one of the mates who bought his own, he was great at unwrapping Mintos in his pocket). Yes we hung around on street corners at times before we started going into pubs but we were not much trouble. We all have stories from our youth, we have gown up and inevitably got older, but many of us still have a twinkle in our eyes and feel we are still that younger self inside. Regards Alan
  19. Latest update is that Reedham is operational again. Regards Alan
  20. Today's latest update:- The Authority has been informed that Reedham Bridge is unable to open to river traffic due to a breakdown. Engineers have been called.
  21. Hi Grendel, I am sure all of us drivers of automatic cars have done likewise, I know I have during the transition period. I have been driving automatics of various kinds for the last 21 years, would I go back to a standard gearbox, not a chance. they are too much hassle. Like yourself I can go back to a manual car or truck if needs be if hiring or have a courtesy car in a short time, its just a case of getting used to the clutch. I was always told when driving an automatic to tuck your left foot under your right leg to stop the left foot doing something it shouldn't like stamping on the brake peddle. Regards Alan
  22. Hi Boycee I see you are using a tablet, Stuart & Griff are you using an android/tablet? It may help the Tech Team if we know how you are login into the forum. Here is a quick test on PC Regards Alan
  23. This is the latest update on the bridges. Broads Authority has been informed by Network Rail that all swing bridges will be closed to river traffic from 10:00 until 19:00 on Wednesday 21 June 2017 due to extreme temperatures. It looks as if I am going to inform my fellow owners that Somerleyton is going to be an issue yet again. Regards Alan
