  3. I have just been on the Barns Brinkcraft webcam, there are a few boats waiting for the pilot, it looks like being a busy day. Regards Alan
  4. Hi Peter, In my mind the demasting moorings are for all users that need to prepare themselves for passage through a bridge. Take for example the the pontoon below Somerleyton Bridge, this can be a pain to moor up on because of the tides, but there are times when many crews have had to wait over 30 minutes for the bridge to open and at other times finding the bridge is out of order and having to wait for low water. 10 minutes or so the skippers will go in a loop down river until the bridge opens. We can of course phone or radio the swing bridges, but if they have trains scheduled but you will have to wait. Regards Alan
  5. Hello James, Thank you for the post on the topic, it is good to see you are getting involved. Please let you know a little about yourself and your times on the Broads. Regards Alan
  6. I just measure in what ever is the nearest be it metric or imperial. Back in the day we always measured in thou with reference to the wire size or if we had to make specialised tools. Tim just go with what ever floats your boat. Hardwood always used to be priced in square inches. Regards Alan
  7. Hi Grace it always amazes me that a woman can walk into a room and all the other women will have sized her up, compared and more than likely taken a instant dislike to her, as you say meowwww
  8. The general rule on most boats is if you have not eaten it nothing goes down the toilet other than cheap two ply toilet roll, the expensive three ply or quilted is regarded as contraband. I have to admit seeing some of the signs put on boats showing no razor blades etc always makes me think of sword swallowing acts Regards Alan
  9. Hello Karrass1, We always used to take with us a small frying pan, a wooden spatula and spoon, a sharp knife and a good tin opener (just watch Robin's video to understand why). Take a small torch in case you need one. Regards Alan
  10. Hi Doug, I did similar to you, also at school a chessboard in the center of a coffee table, a lot of work getting everything square with no gaps. It is very similar to making up laminated boards in the other topic. I like the thought of IBTC and maybe a project. Regards Alan
  11. Hi John, You can purchase laminated boards up to around 40 mm thick, 600 mm wide. I have used these for making carcasses for built in wardrobes. Regards Alan

  18. Every time I have been passing the Yare there has always been a long line of boats for sale, in the past we have even had a wander around a few, likewise around the NYA boats for sale. Tan and I love to look around boats to see what available and to get ideas for our syndicate boat, sadly we have yet to find a boat that ticks all the boxes with regards with an upgrade, maybe we have been spoilt Regards Alan
  19. It is hard to get boat cleaners on the Broads that are prepared to do any cleaning work let alone restricted hours or basic rates of pay, I wish Brooms the best of luck with that. Regards Alan

In the tool store was a full range of Stanley planes and a total of 8 number 1 planes, noting the price they fetch these days I wonder what ever happened to them? Here are some of my planes Regards Alan
