  1. The population has a certain percentage of idiots, the government and its advisers are drawn from the general population, therefore…… We know that a number of those we have elected and advisers, from all parties, have been found to have breached the guidlines. What the vast majority haven't done is to go on mass demonstrations, parties and raves. They also haven't squeezed together on the beach. We need to remember who will be responsible for the spread of any second wave, that will be the masses who have been out protesting and been to the beach or parties and think they are invincible or just don't care about anyone else. The government doesn't spread the virus, the public do.
  2. Arrived at the boatyard at 5am this morning, now I only have to stay awake until one minute past midnight, not a problem for an insomniac. Beer opened and F1 on. Perfick.
  3. Typical media hype, The list of 36 areas that could be locked down includes the Medway Towns in Kent. Leicester has 140 cases per 100,000. Medway has 6.8 cases per 100,000 Both have similar sized population. Edited with revised figures.
  4. The Calypso was a 28' and had more storage than my present boat, a Topclass, Topliner, at 32'. The compromise is additional outdoor space on the Topliner.
  5. Welcome to the forum BBB, Have you looked at Calypsos, they would be with in your budget, some shabby ones about but also some very nice examples. I had one for a number of years and enjoyed it a lot. Not many left with the original gel coat so you would need to budget for a repaint in the future. It lost 3k over 7 years ownership. Have a wander around the brokers yards and see what suits you. The Hamptons may prove to be too small, we were close to buying one but went for the more spacious Calypso.
  6. I have had a similar day, it can't be us, it must be them.
  7. I have friends in Norway and Greece, all saying the same thing, it isn't just UK Sad old world we are becoming.
  8. I have been bitten twice during surveys, both by jack russels. The owners had assured me they were fine. They bite and don't let go and the injuries are painful. The first one recieved a swift kick across the room and the second one felt the full force of a tool box. The owners were upset that I had hit their furbabies, but not as upset as I was. I now never go into a house unless any dog is out in the garden or in a cage. It wasn't the dogs fault, they were defending their space, it was the owners, they shouldn't be allowed to keep pets.
  9. I believe it is two house holds from 4th July.
  10. The number of Londoners traveling to Kent beggars belief, Thanet beaches full, Camber Sands full, a beach party at Leysdown that I could hear 8 miles away last night. All the reports indicate a substantial number of London residents who seem to think the virus has disappeared. At least they weren't partying and attacking the police in London. Madness.
  11. My Aunt had an original Thomas Crapper toilet in her house, it was considered very posh to have a Crapper.
  12. Several family members are struggling to book holiday cottages in this country before the end of August. Take up is increasing daily. I think foreign travel should be discouraged this year to restrict importing or even exporting the virus.
  13. My marina are waiting for an update from BA, it should be out in a few days, no rush
  14. I guess most fluids will have washed out by now..
  15. Take the top structure off and fill the hull with soil, assuming it is concrete. It will soon disappear in the reeds.
  16. Both units are mains power but the monitor has an hour battery back up. The volume is adjustable and also has an infa red camera incase you need to check on them rather than getting up. Very pleased with it. Might be worth getting one and just move the monitor as required.
  17. We have a baby monitor for the MIL, it plugs in each end and uses the wiring to transmit. They are available with extra monitors and the ability to turn off the video, it may be needed in the future. The microphone is very sensitive but volume is adjustable. I would suggest just two monitor units as the just unplug and you may need to do a rota with the son to ensure you get some sleep. EDIT, My unit is wireless, but covers a good 200 feet down the garden from the front of the house so should cope with a few thick walls. If you can't get an extra monitor it might be worth getting two systems.
  18. New Zealand only allows its own citizens and families to return at moment with what was thought to be strict quarantine. That didn't stop the infection returning as the quarantine wasn't properly enforced.
  19. Good news, it has to be now or next year to sell. Mortgage valuers have been instructed to down value between 5 and 10% ( I know this for a fact ) and 90% mortgages have been withdrawn. The market will be dire for at least 9 months but should pick up again. Make sure you keep on to solicitors and agents to get it through quickly, it can be done in six weeks if everyone acts promptly. I got two properties completed in 6 weeks and finalized on the 3rd April. Go for it.
  20. O2 and EE are both rubbish in Brundall.
  21. No idea where it came from, when they announced the alert system I had a chuckle, maybe from the cold war era and a rebellious childhood.
  22. Anyone else remember this message distortion from the 70's
  23. A second wave is probably inevitable but hopefully can be managed now we have greater knowledge and systems set up to cope. It is still dependent on the public doing as they are asked.
