mikeyboy1966
Jones boatyard to be more precise although we looked to buy a boat on the broads, this one came up for sale at Jones , just outside St ives on the river great Ouse. so for the time being we won’t be joining you guys In Norfolk . It’s a very nice place to be based, and only an hour from home. I managed to get a 1/2 decent photo of the boat as our neighbours went out for the day.

mikeyboy1966
Luckily, tangle’s owner was aboard, and I got to hear its history she was built in the winter of 1966/7 right here at Jones , the current marina owner ,Mick was in his teens and helped his dad build her. shame the covers are still on but I’ll get the full guided tour when I haven’t got George the Norfolk terrorist with me.
mikeyboy1966
Tangle and this one, built 1967/8 are both built on an ocean 30 hull. they are quite similar internally etc
mikeyboy1966
This one was built on a 35ft hull (sorry I’ve forgotten the name) but I think it’s a commonly used hull for Norfolk boats. built 1968/9 . I think it’s remarkable that these boats are still at the very yard they were built, despite many years of travels. tangle’s owner was telling me it spent a few years on the Thames.

Want survey.) 3rd river fees. 4th breakdown/recovery( however my proventitve maintenance should render this as a last ditch)
Popeye
The Great Ouse is quite an interesting river having cruised it many years ago between King's Lynn and Bedford not long after the navigation was restored. Ely is a great place to visit despite being on a long and boring stretch of river between there and Denver Sluice. Wonderful on a nice sunny day but hell in bad weather. St Ives is a great overnight stop as is Hemingford Grey. and of course you can get to Cambridge if you really want to.
Vaughan
When I first saw the photos of Tangle, it reminded me of one of the Brink of Eden class from the original Brinkcraft. They seem to have used this wooden boat as a plug to mould the Brink of Day class, so maybe this is where the builder of Tangle got the idea, and the mould, from? From Blakes catalogue of 1978.
addicted
Tangle was a familiar sight on the Gt. Ouse during the 90s when we were based there. We once moored next to her and got talking to the chap who was aboard. He had borrowed her from a friend. He and his family were thoroughly enjoying being temporary custodians of such a lovely boat. Boaters
Spent many years moored at St Neots and cruised every corner of the system and enjoyed it all before bringing the boat to Norfolk when we moved .Mick Jones and his boatyard were always on our visit list when in the area ,in my mind the best yard on the Ouse.Nice place to be . Boaters
Hi Smoggy,we had her there from the late eighties for nearly ten years before coming to Norfolk, had some great times when we were at Cross hall marina .
Smoggy
At the posh end of town then, we were based in St.neots marina from 2000 to 2012 when we escaped to the broads, now changed boat and can't get back due to airdraft.
