Timbo
It's a little bit early to be banking up your leeks Frank? I've not tried growing them in windows though, I much prefer some old drain pipes sections to help blanch them. Guest
I didn't notice this thread yesterday, or I would have commented on it sooner. I know it's a subject that I've bored everyone with my view on many times already, but a forum's worth is utterly dependent on the input from the posters. I participate in several forums on specialist subjects, and once I find the "active" one, with the most relevant content, I focus on that, rather than dissipate my time over several. Nowadays anyone can start a forum about any subject, at negligible costs. The trick is in attracting people to post interesting and relevant content, and then keeping their interest. Despite which I do find the occasional irrelevence exhibited here to be an altogether enjoyable addition to the sometimes more serious content.
BroadScot
I do find the occasional irrelevence exhibited here to be an altogether enjoyable addition to the sometimes more serious content. Guilty as charged m'lud, I digressed, coz I like to keep things light hearted. Now about Mr Flappy, there is Sea World, you could try there Frank Iain. p.s. I've got John's lovely sunny day here in Troon!
Baitrunner
Can't comment on the other forum, but if it's the one I think then this one looked the dogs bits! Knowledgeable, helpful, friendly users, lots of experience of all types of boats and places, hirers and owners mixing together (no snobby "I have a boat and am better than you"). Oh and and did I say in another post how fantastic the moderators were? I am a member of a another forum dedicated to a specific make of boat, but this one has all that local knowledge you cant get elsewhere (or buy). Long may she reign. Guest
.....Despite which I do find the occasional irrelevence exhibited here to be an altogether enjoyable addition to the sometimes more serious content. Quite so John, no harm at all in occasional friendly banter, it can often add value. Considering the number of people very interested in Norfolk Broads boating, it's a shame that Internet Forums on this subject have had such a chequered start. Too many posters (on all of them) take rivalry way beyond the "friendly" stage, defending their personal preference at any cost to the overall subject and the Internet's presentation of it. Many "Newbies" probably just walk away, dumbfounded by the animosity. Thank goodness that there is far less gaining points on the other specialist subject forums I visit. They just talk about the subject itself, rather than looking down on each other.
JawsOrca
LOL.. JimG
JimG, I appreciate your sentiments but with the greatest respect I think that it is a very bad idea to start comparing and contrasting different forums. We all have our reasons for choosing one over another, or indeed for being members of more than one. What matters is our ability to coexist happily on this forum. Sorry but I disagree. I'm a member of the two forums in question and post fairly regularly on both. Yes it's essential that they coexist, but I don't see an issue with making comparisons, as long as the negativity is kept to a minimum.

CooWee
Mr Flappy was delicious, I don't know how Iain found out. "Scots type people on here Lol, they are lovely though don't ya think" They are indeed Grace and one of their number who lived in Musselburgh kept calling me Ken "do ya ken", "ken", "ken". I was going to give you four likes but people might talk, got be careful with that spelling again. I like this forum because it is varied within its main theme and the reason for its being - The Norfolk Broads.
Arthur
As one who has studied history in the past I must object to the way the myth regarding the construction of the so called "Hadrians Wall" continues to be perpetuated. Surely it is time that the truth was accepted. This wall had nothing to do with the Roman occupation of these islands. It was constructed by the good folks north of the border in a last ditch attempt to keep the Sasanach invaders in their place. Mowjo
Please check back and for once you will notice that it wasn't me that went off topic this time, Strow also mentions later, and once I find the "active" one, with the most relevant content, I focus on that, Strow I have news for you! a Relevant is a big large grey thing with a trunk and big ears, and how would anyone know if it incontinent??? Now for the bad news! Mr Flappy has passed away, well murdered by the Mods, I sent out Photo fit pictures, but then recieved a ranson note, being tight I refused to pay so they sent me this,,,, the good news is I have a new pet, he's called Cedric, I won't go into details in case the Mods get him, but he has eight legs and is the biggest one I've seen this year, and I mean BIG,,,,,
