  1. You've got it, Liz! :clap And Howard, you are correct about Black Mill.
  2. Trevor, Hi So I thought but somewhere (just spent far too long trying to find it again) I found a map of York with "Ossett Brewery" printed on it, in the SW of York I recollect.................
  3. We've not seen Betsie Jane before Two Burgees at Cantley Liberta near the Beauchamp Arms
  4. Sorry, no, Alan. I was passing the Black Mill yesterday and it's quite a lot different!
  5. I wasn't criticising, Peter. Where I live in Norfolk is intensely agricultural and the local pub is the meeting place for most of our local pheasant and rough shoots. We also have a deer stalking company which culls the deer population around here. (Peeps pay lots of money to crawl around in the undergrowth in the pre-dawn hours to shoot a deer). Two gamekeepers and several locals have ferrets, polecats, shotguns and rifles to keerp the rabbit/fox/why populations under control; it's just the way it is in the countryside.
  6. Some of the guys putting the marquee up were on page 8, or was it 9? Now we're waiting for all the snappers to get home and settled before they post theirs!
  7. Very interesting, Peter, but I bet that will raise a fur few heckles, particularly the last paragraph! "• Coming next week: A war declared - and won. But what if it happened today?" You do like controversy, don't you!!! :naughty:
  8. There's a very good field just beyond the top of the slope hedge where you can let them go, Mandy.
  9. We're here at the moment, Mandy! Look at the pics I took this morning and you'll see we're on "The Island" where Eddie the Fish is. Leccy is available at £1 and £5 from pylons. They don't take BA cards but theirs are available in the shop which IMHO is reasonably priced and quite well stocked. Two big dogs (and lots of little ones) were tearing around all morning and there's a hot swimming pool for the kids. £10 a night but that includes showers/loos and the wifi I'm using. We'll try the food tonight but the menu seems reasonably priced.
  10. We will be ashore and that sounds good, Neil & Karen!
  11. We get back from our long boat trip in late April but I'll try to be about... will you make it South?
  12. Jim, HI. Sorry but I can't see the problem.............however, in my days, kids were roped to the boat and wore LSJ's... :naughty:
  13. I must be missing something, Iain........ later than when? :shocked
  14. That's very generous, both of you, and many thanks! :clap
  15. We went there just after the war and it was war-time bell tents and Calisthenics after the 06.30 bugle wake-up call!
  16. Correct, Alan.. about 40+ in Yorkshire and only 34 in Norfolk............. but, Howard's first post says: "which is the Capital of Ale - Norwich or York"
  17. As a WAAFI with over 30 years experience up and down the Channel and crossing the North Sea I think I can speak with both hats on. Sailing a sea-going boat from Brundall to Gt Yarmouth I was constantly amazed by the lack of courtesy to a Yottie from some Stinkies' Now, as a Stinkie, I am ditto by the actions of some Yotties. I guess we all have to make allowances..............
  18. That's a bit harsh, Pops............
  19. Let us know the date, old Buddy and we'll drink a dram to you!
  20. Bill, welcome aboard the Friendly Forum.... why not, indeed?
